tonight you have extreme heat that shut down a faith gathering but first we sent you an alert about today's thunderstorm wa s warnings. >> let's go to graphics. some severe weather warnings until 6:30 and a severe storm warning for parts of prince georgia. this one going until 6:30, that beeping indicated a new severe thunderstorm warning coming into the area as we look at our alerts right now. we have seen the thunderstorm warning now extended until 6:45. so again this area right here, this includes northern prince george's county under a severe thunderstorm warning until 6:4 . here is the latest on radar. look at the

and gusty winds and very heavy rainfall. you can see very heavy rainfall moving through parts of fair fax and into southern maryland. this storm moving toward the southeast at about 10 miles an hour. shelby on the bay just after 7:00 and shady side at about 7:20. i'll have another look coming up in about 15 minutes and what this means for sunday. those are the storms but it was the heat that was shutting down the 2016 event on the national mall. the heat emergency cut the festivities short. >> this event draw people from across the united states and international. people are leaving the mall because the event had to be cancelled early because of the weather, extreme heat and a storm that was brewing. all day people were still

oh my word. a dangerous stunt in india as a group of teenagers dodge a train. somebody caught them jumping into the river as a train comes barrelling through. all the conductor could do was sounds the emergency horn. stunts are not uncommon in india. according to local newspapers train tracks have become a deadly playground for people pulling stunts like that. the sounds of crews today.

transformer caught fire friday afternoon. the power had to be cut to buildings and businesses along 14th and v streets. that meant that thousands of customers spent hours without ac last night and today during this hot weather. some choose to stay cool inside the community center. most people have their power restored. they brought in two emergency generators for people still without power. it was the heat that forced the event to end early but thousands of the faithful are in d.c. for unified prior. some say harmony is needed now in our country more than ever. >> reporter: it was a pilgrimage of sorts. a call to the faithful to converge to the national's capital, organizers say the event is about faith and prayer for change for laying down the things that divide

here and blessed every mile of the way. >> we need to pray. we need to reset our minds. >> i feel like we're just getting started right now. >> reporter: news 4. our official high temperature today was 93 degrees, the heat and humidity and the cold front helping to spur some severe thunderstorms across the area. the areas here in orange are under severe thunderstorm warnings until 6:45, heavy rains, lightening and hail and gusty winds as well as. up around the baltimore area until 6:45 as well. you can see this line of very heavy rainfall impacting maryland, the district down into virginia. this continues toward the east moving toward the eastern shore impacting the philadelphia area and new jersey as well.

around the baltimore area. a number of lightening strikes showing up on storm team 4 radar. 267. i posted more on my facebook and twitter pages. you can follow me on those pages after the news is off for any more weather updates this evening. here are some impact times as the storm is moving toward the east at 50 miles an hour toward mayo at about 6:41 and of course impacting the bay bridge with some very heavy rainfall and lots of lightening. currently temperatures are in the 70s. 72 in washington, 73 up in frederick as this line moves out i think we'll see temperatures warm up again and then kind of cool back down overnight. so by 7:00 82 degrees, rain still likely in the metro area and a few thunderstorms around as well. by 9:00 p.m. rain is east of the d.c. metro area. by 9:00

maryland but it is dry inside the beltway and most everybody is dry by that point. clouds diminish overnight tonight. we're dry overnight and throughout the day tomorrow. it's humid and hot but we're going to keep it dry. some storms are possible on monday and tuesday as well. gorgeous weather in the forecast for wednesday and turning very hot late next week into next weekend. we have the potential of hitting triple digits. tomorrow we start off the day at 74 degrees. a high of 94 and maybe an isolated thunderstorm but 95% of us are dry. on monday the weather having a moderate impact your day. it will be the 16th day of 90 degrees or higher this year. late day thunderstorms are possible that could be on the strong to maybe severe side if we do see them materialize. 97 on monday and tuesday 94, wednesday with a high of 88 and next weekend we're flirtin
