northwest washington. a vigil held tonight to remember a transgender woman shot on the fourth of july. found out what police in maryland had to do to protect people from this black lives matter protest. thousands of people in turkey flood the streets and answer their president's call to show support for his embattled government. good evening, everyone. thanks for joining us. the show of support comes a day after the uprising, but the government's victory comes with a cost. as richard engel reports, the crisis has spread to the united states. >> reporter: it's a brazen and treasonous attempted coup by a faction in the military and today supporters

erdogan were cheering victory. the crackdown is now under way. more than 2800 soldiers and officers, alleged conspirators, have already been arrested and the extradition of a cleric, fethullah gulen, that erdogan has called the head of terror. tell obama, president erdogan said, either deport gulen or give him to us. turkey suspended all military flights, including u.s. flights and the faa banned all flights from and to turkey, leaving american passengers like kristin carter, who is six months pregnant, and her family from ohio stuck at the istanbul airport. >> we saw people screaming and crying, so we went to the bathroom to hide the children to keep them

this case. and tonight at that vigil there were demands for justice. and the victim's mother recounted their last conversation. the mother of the 22-year-old who went by dee dee spoke publicly for the first time about the death of her daughter, who is a transgender woman. >> he wanted to come to see his brothers and sisters, but he never -- he never got a chance. ♪ we shall overcome >> reporter: dozens of friends and relatives stood in the pouring rain outside her northwest d.c. home. she had been shot in the neck and died nine days later. >> it was very important for us to do this because not just being transgender, but we're talking about a life. a human life was

tragic way. her murder remains unsolved. it's not known if her sexual orientation had anything to do with the crime, but many here are concerned that hate could have been a motivation. >> it's unconscionable what happened. >> i'm going to miss that smile. i know i'll never see that smile again. ♪ we shall overcome someday >> reporter: d.c. police are offering a $25,000 reward for information that helps them solve this case. reporting live in northwest, darcy spencer. news4. a black lives matter protest shut down traffic in frederick, maryland. these images are from today's demonstration. marchers passed city hall and ended at car

the protest was not permitted and police had to block streets to keep protesters and drivers safe. nobody was hurt and there were no arrests today. here's the latest on storm team 4 radar. still some rain down in parts of st. mary's county through the northern neck, but most of us are dry. we have been for sometime. some patchy fog will develop late tonight. you could be dealing with that through the early morning hours until about 7:00 a.m. otherwise 69 degrees at 7:00 a.m. by 8:00 a.m., we're in the low 80s. low 70s. by 9:00 a.m., 77. 10:00 a.m., 82. we'll have plenty of sunshine. tomorrow we're in the 90s once again. but as we look to the upcoming workweek, some extreme heat moves into the area.

it will be coming up in my full forecast. sharon harris was one of three people shot on the 4300 block of fourth street southeast yesterday afternoon. he died at the hospital. investigators tell us another victim was transported to the hospital and the third victim refused treatment. right now there's no word on a possible suspect or even a motive in this case. news 4 at 11:00 continues with much more after this break.

the man picked by donald trump to be his running mate is now talking about what he'll bring to the gop ticket. trump and indiana governor mike pence appeared at an event together today in new york. the gop convention just two days away. pence is praised by mainstream republicans, including house speaker paul ryan and senator marco rubio. trump and pence said together they can unite the gop party, bring jobs to americans, and fight terrorism. >> we are the law and order candidates, and we're the law and order party. we're going to change things around. >> america needs to be strong for the world to be safe on the world stage. donald trump will lead from strength. >> hillary clinton has already tweeted more than a dozen times about governor pence. her campaign attacking his conservative views on abortion, the minimum wage, and

the last of the dallas police officers killed in last week's ambush shooting was laid to rest today. hundreds of law enforcement officers from around the country showing up for patrick zamarripa's funeral. he was one of the five officers killed after a gunman opened fire following a protest in downtown dallas. new at 11:00, somebody is helping a dangerous criminal who escaped from a florida courtroom friday. that word today from police investigators in ft. lauderdale. they say he may have his hands on a weapon. he

shackles during a bond hearing. he jumped over a courtroom barrier and ran past the bailiffs. he is accused of stabbing his grand niece multiple times. her body was found tied up in a bathtub inside her home. so hard to watch this. this is an incredibly dangerous stunt in india has a group of teenagers dodge a train. somebody caught them jumping into a river thursday just a train comes barrelling through there. all the conductor could do was sound the emergency horn. stunts like this are not uncommon in india. train tracks have become a deadly playground for people pulling stunts like this. extreme heat put an end to the early prayer and worship event on the national mall. more than 500 received some type of medical attention. about three dozen were

some storms are possible on monday and tuesday. wednesday looking gorgeous. we get a break from the heat and the humidity with plenty of sunshine. that break though very short lived. by thursday, we're tracking another heat wave and very hot to finish off the upcoming workweek. and next weekend, we're talking about high temperatures potentially near or even hitting 100 degrees. currently, we're in the 70s in many locations. 73 in washington. 70 in leesburg. down to 68 in frederick. we'll be waking up tomorrow with temps in the mid to upper 60s. around 69 degrees at 7:00 a.m. by noon, we're already flirting with 90 and humid tomorrow. need the sunglasses by 4:00. maybe an isolated thunderstorm, especially south of washington. a high tomorrow of 94. by 8:00 p.m., not too bad. a temperature around 87 degrees. if you're doing yard work tomorrow, sunny and dry heading to the pool,

sunscreen. sunday brunch, might be too hot to have brunch outdoors. might want to enjoy the air-conditioning inside. as we look to monday, the weather having a moderate impact on your day. highs monday will be in the upper 90s. it will be the 16th day so far this year that we've hit 90 degrees or higher. it's muggy and with the mugginess it's feeling more like 100 during the afternoon hours and some afternoon and evening thunderstorms are possible on monday. if we see those storms materialize, they could have some very heavy rainfall and maybe some gusty winds. if we get storms on monday, they're less likely on tuesday. if we don't get storms on monday, then storminess is more likely on tuesday. models in disagreement on exactly when a cold front wants to move through. right now i'm leaning more toward monday. you can see future weather also thinking that. 2:00, we're tracking some
