4. >> nbc news 4 political contributor nicole wallace will be join us alive at 6:15 chris lawrence and tom sherwood will be at the convention all week to bring the information to you. we turn to police in baton rouge. less than ten minutes, that's how long it took a gunman to shoot six police officers. three of them died. newly released surveillance photos show gunman gavin long during the attack. in honor of fallen officers, president obama has ordered the flags to remain at half-staff until friday. several protesters were arrested after being traffic to a standstill on i-95 in richmond. the group black lives matter blocked all the lanes of i-95 and draped a sign over the

the protest lasted half an hour and caused back up for several miles. today, montgomery county is asking police and community members to come together and talk about recent deadly shootings around the country. kristin wright is live with more. >> reporter: good morning. we are always one incident away. that is how the director of montgomery county's office of human rights put it. and why he says these down halls must happen now. five police officers killed in dallas. five. three officers killed in baton rouge. that is eight police officers murdered. before that, two black men killed by police officers in louisiana and minnesota, and those incidents are just the most recent. long history, as we all know, of conflict between race and policing nationwide. something has to

today montgomery county is saying let's all talk about this together as a community. >> that we have a good situation now does not mean that tomorrow. we're always one incident away from being one of the locations that have issues of violence occurring in the communities. if it should happen, by the way, we want to be prepared. >> reporter: this first town hall is tonight at 7:00 here in silver spring. coming up, leaders in montgomery county see as the specific goals of these meetings. a university of maryland police officer is off the streets because of this incident. that officer pepper sprayed students while breaking up a graduation party back in may. this is the officer's body camera footage that the police chief promised us last week. the officer shouts spray but only after using it. people start screaming and running there in the parking lot. other officers arrted two students.

the scene. 270 southbound just before 80 in urbana, we've been dealing with accident activity moved over to the shoulder thankfully. fairfax county parkway, south bound, we have accident activity with left lane getting by. back to you. 6:14, there is a call for change in a deadly rockville intersection after two bicyclists were killed in less than a year, a 13-year-old was killed -- 31-year-old was killed on sunday. at turkey branch road and veers mill road. in that same intersection, a 19-year-old was killed in december. they want changes. >> they supposedly have improved the intersection and all those things. when we went there today and pushed the button, it didn't

nbc4. well, the republican national convention is under way this as we get new poll numbers how voters feel about the candidate in a head-to-head match-up. clinton and trump are basically tied. clinton hedging out trump by 4%. with the convention under way, 11% of republican voters think that the gop is unified, but half of them think that they are going to get there by november. by the way, the nbc news survey monkey weekly elect poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 1.4%. we turn back to cleveland now, and our coverage of day two of the republican national convention. discussions today are supposed to center on the economy. but this is the controversy a lot of people are talking about this morning. the striking similarities between first ladych

hundred young catholics from virginia are arriving in europe. following recent attacks and global instability, leaders are taking precautions more than in years past. one organizers tells us more people are bringing cell phones and leaders are trying to make better use of social media. today, family, friends, and fellow police officers will say good-bye to officer michael krol. he was one of five officers killed during last week's ambush shooting of police in dallas. that service will be in redford township in michigan. krol moved to dallas to become a police officer in 2008. his family says he always wanted to be a cop. last year, danny harvel sped off after an officer pulled him over and tried to question him. he dragged the car. the officer broke his

harvel is expected to plead guilty to assault. university of maryland police are looking for this man in connection to a robbery on campus. they say he's a person of interest in the pokemon go robberies one week ago. police said four people, including several students, were robbed at gunpoint on the campus last tuesday night. most of them were playing pokemon go on their phones and they all had their phones taken. fairfax county is taking a new approach to dealing with pokemon go players. the county is hosting a 12-hour poke-a thon tomorrow encouraging fans to play safely. the event comes after two men and three teens were caught trespassing and playing the game inside a springfield elementary school last week. it is at the sully district government center. this is a whole can't beat them, join them. the national park tried to make it an educational event as well. >> good luck. >> yeah. this is

tourists from china that were actually supposed to return home today and still though, no word on what caused the terrible crash. aaron. 6:55. thank you. take a look at this body camera footage from a pepper spray incident that led to an officer suspension. this happened at the university of maryland. the police officers there broke up a party back in may. the officer involved shouts spray, but only after using it. people start screaming and running in the parking lot. officers arrest two students and that same officer deploys pepper spray again in the area where medics are treating people. university police chief called the behavior unacceptable. charge against the student were dropped. arlington national cemetery workers are going on strike. they are protesting failed negotiations with two private companies contracted to oversee the grounds. the workers are pushing forays and paid sick leave. currently they are paid $13 an hour. good morning, i'm landon
