the rnc starting on news 4 at 4:00. today, civil rights lead erred and former delegate walter faunt roy was arrested from the airport when he returned from dubai. there was a warrant out for his arrest for writing a bad check in 2009. trial date will likely be set during today's hearing. today, a man accused of impersonating a top aide to u.s. congressman john lewis is scheduled to enter a plea agreement in d.c. federal court. earlier this month, the iteam reported that he was not related to the congressman but was charged with pretending to be the chief of staff for the icon. he did this to score field passes for the redskins and get special treatment at a lounge in south beach, miami. he faces up to three years in prison. congressman's spokeswoman declined to comment saying it's now a matter for the court. you will have to wait longer if you need to travel on the

virginia. metro's fifth safetrack surge started this morning between falls church and east falls church. this will happen for the next 12 days. crews will replace deteriorated wooden rail ties. even though metro is moving on to the next phase of safetrack, it's still having major problems along a section of track that was just fixed. in the blue, orange and silver lines, it's a long section of track known as the d and g junction. eight separate signal and switch problems in that elevated section have meant delays and unscheduled track work. passengers were not in danger. still, riders say the problems have caused some headaches. it's 6:07. teens looking to get that base tan or a glow for prom will have to leave montgomery county. tanning ban goes into effect today in the county for children under 18. in april, montgomery county became the second county in the state to ban ind

many people waking up to a lot of damage in the area. one of the places hardest hit, montgomery county. this is a live look courtesy of chopper 4 of this huge, this massive tree that fell on top of this house and heavily damaged it on moraine avenue in silver spring, maryland. there were no injuries reported in this incidenincident. but we're hearing from officials that this is one of five homes in montgomery county a lope hit by a fallen tree. we also know that five other homes were struck by lightning. eun? >> angie, thank you. transgender students in fairfax ty

for new policies to take effect. they've asked to delay the regulations extending the nondiscrimination policy to include gender identity. the board says it needs more time to evaluate legal issues, including a pending supreme court case involving a transgender student in virginia. some say the delay is difficult but students will be treated with fairness. he was behind "happy days" and pretty woman. garry marshall has died. marshall was 81 years old. he had a stroke recently and died of complications from pneumonia. you saw people putting roses on his star on the hollywood walk of fame. marshall wrote for dozens of tv shows and movies. he wrote for "the tonight show" with jack paar. outside this morning after a round of thunderstorms late last night. we got the sun back in the sky. that's

because of a downed tree. thanks, jack. it is 6:32. developing this morning, the police have arrested a second suspect in the death of a police captain. robert melton was chasing two suspects yesterday when he was shot. died at the hospital. police say they are not looking for any other suspects. melton is the ninth police officer to die in a shooting this month. two of the officers killed this month will be laid to rest this week. funeral services for baton rouge officer matthew gerald had happen on friday. montrell jackson's is set for monday. the officers and a sheriff's deputy were killed in an ambush attack on sunday. police say a lone gunman and former marine, gavin long wanted to shoot anyone wearing a badge. in response to those deadly police shootings, montgomery county is hosting a town hall meeting on race and policing. tonight's meeting is in germ

as the sunrises, we're finding more damage done by the storms. you're taking a live look from chopper 4 in college park in prince george's county. this is route 1 at beechwood road where there was a truck on scene. a cherry picker. they were trying to untangle this tree that had hit some power lines. we know that the northbound lanes do remain closed in the area. but as you can see, some traffic getting by. they have one southbound lane that's getting by.

their way around this fallen tree. we see about half a block down, there's one more. beyond that, there's another. over in southwest, we were there earlier this morning. a massive tree came down on o street, 400 block of o street near the washington channel. that tree did some damage to the roofs of town houses. it's blocked a couple cars. some cars were completely covered. this is what folks are waking up to this morning. if you're going to be driving, sometimes lanes will go away because of lanes being blocked with the trees falling out into the street. we just saw officials from d.c. trees, that is the company that or the organization that takes a look at trees. not sure if this is a federal tree or a local tree. we know it's a fallen tree. a lot of this going around all over the city today. it blew through here last night. live in northwest. today, civil rights leader
