standing by and megan mcgrath is also going to talk about what we can expect with this heat wave. chuck, how is it feeling out there right now? >> it's warmer and more humid than yesterday. if you are going to get out and enjoy the day, the next hour or two will be the best part of it. temperatures in the 60s and low 70s but you'll notice the humidity has started to creep back in. as far as any cooling rain chances, we'll have one or two chances for a stray shower or thunderstorm very late in the day today, but dangerously hot and humid over the week. i took a look back to see how this summer stacks up against our all-time hottest summer, the summer of 2010. by this date, in the summer of 2010, we already had 39 days 90 or higher. so far this year, only 18 days. so we're 21 days behind in the 90-degree day count. total number that year of 67. we're going to have at least 8 or ten in a row starting da

weather. megan. >> reporter: right now things are pretty comfortable. in fact, i saw someone walking his dog a little while ago and that's a great way to do it. if you got to go out, exercise, walk the dog, now is the time to do it. in a matter of hours we're expecting that extreme heat to kick in. it's going to begin today, go into the weekend and into monday and this is dangerous heat. folks are going to need to take some precautions here. in d.c., fire houses are going to be adding extra ambulances. they are going to have five extra ambulances out there to accommodate what they expect to be a spike in emergency-related calls to the heat. people who find themselves in trouble because of exposure to the heat, and all across the dmv, people are being asked to be -- to take some precautions. for example, limit your outdoor activity. wear light colored, loose clothing. stay hydrated. that's very important. make sure you are drinking plenty of fluids if you are outside. also, check on y

neighbors. they can particularly be vulnerable in extreme heat situations. if you have some elderly neighbors, just give them a call. drop over, make sure they are doing okay. now, experts say it's important to prepare and to use common sense. >> prehydrate. drink plenty of fluids before and during. 1 or 2 liters per hour if you are outside. >> and in the district, spray parks are going to be open longer than normal. they will be open from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. another way for people to cool off. they are also going to be cooling centers across the region for folks who don't have air conditioning, and also in all of this, don't forget your pets. don't leave them outside and certainly don't leave them in a car. that's a very dangerous situation. our plan will put america first.
