culver on assignment in miami on the clinton/kaine ticket. it's a weather alert day. tom kierein is tracking a heat wave about to hit us. >> the dome over the upper midwest the last several days is drifting our way. it's going to be over our region for the next several days. plan accordingly, especially during the afternoon. already got the thick humidity in place. we can see that in the live view from the storm team 4 tower camera. there is tyson's corner in the distance. you can see the humidity hanging in the air around the region. that combined with the hot temperatures gives us a heat advisory. all the areas in orange have the heat index near 105 this afternoon. right around the metro area, northern virginia. hour by hour temperatures, we'll see it jumping into the low 90s in another couple hours. then it'll be hovering in the mid 90s. 3:00, 4:00 may get to the upper 90s.

105. after that, may get storms. i have timing on that coming up this half hour. >> thanks so much, tom. because of the extreme heat, power outages continue in downtown washington. a number of museums are closed today because of the outage. news 4 is live with a look at what we can do to try to beat the heat today and the latest on the outages. >> good morning. one thing that people do in this town is when it's hot, they go to the smithsonian museum to cool off. you can do that but you have fewer options. this is because of an incident that happened yesterday about noon. it left the holocaust museum, the national museum of national art, the freer stacker and national indian museum without power. they'll be closed the duration of the day. power will be restored by noon, pepco says. also, federal government buildings were affec
