southeast, southwest expressway. eastbound southeast, southwest freeway, split at the third street tunnel, the left lane is getting by the crash. sounds like the exit ramps are unaffected right now. that's very good news through that area. northbound bw parkway, crash. chopper 4 headed that way. westbound 7 at carlin springs road, the three-car crash is hanging around there. the beltway there at river road, no major problems. guys? melissa, thank you. we're tracking a breaking story in the district. police on the scene of a triple shooting. this happened across from nationals park in southwest d.c. news 4's kristin wright live with more on the investigation. kristin? >> reporter: good morning. we just now talked with a woman who lives right here where the shooting happened. she says in the middle of night she heard about 15 gunshots and then heard a car just tearing out of here. also talked to one of the

he told us -- he described this as a gun battle involving a car. now, if you look down the street here, you see the two police cars, this is right where it happened. we have video from earlier. we want to show you this. it shows investigators out here a number of them taking pictures of all of the evidence. we also saw a number of evidence markers scattered across the street down first street here. i'd say about 20 of them. police officer here telling us that all of those evidence markers were marking bullets and shell casings. three people shot. two women and one man. not that long ago. about 3:00 this morning. police telling us that all of those people were taken by ambulance to the hospital and they're all expected to survive. this is important. police right now looking for a cream or tan-colored vehicle. back to you. kristin wrht

6:04. live pictures of road closures under way in northwest washington after an underground transformer explosion. power is still out in the area of 18th and l street. we told you about the fire yesterday morning. pepco does not expect repairs to be completed until 3:00 today. traffic will be diverted to 19th street until then. that fire may be to blame for trouble for sprint customers. they had trouble getting through to emergency dispatchers yesterday. the phone company said that phone service is -- the issue was connected to a power outage and fire near one of the switch sites. people are back inside at the marriott courtyard on washingtonian boulevard in gaithersburg. they were evacuated just before 2:00 this morning. a tractor-trailer apparently hit a gas meter on the side of a building. everyone was

rescue says the man went underwater near billy goat trail and did not resurface. search and rescue crews begin a 7th day of work at a deadly apartment explosion. another body was found in the rubble of the buildings. none has been identified. fire investigators say they could know what caused the explosion by the end of the week. people who live there say they smelled natural gas before last week's explosion. washington gas says its tests of the area, quote, confirm the integrity of its equipment. the gas company completed checks of nearby buildings. they appear to be working properly. washington gas says representatives will stay on the site to respond to community concerns and the gas company reminds people to get to safety and call 911 if they ever suspect a leak. take a look at this video of this explosive wildfire tearing through southern california right now. more than 80,000 people now worrying abou

a new top cop. cathy lanier announced retirement after 26 years with d.c. police force. she'll head security for the national football league. community members have questions for the next police chief. >> someone who really has the heart and the drive to make the district a safer place. >> we need to have a chief appointed that knows the city. comes from the ranks of the metropolitan police department. >> chief lanier was not the first woman to lead d.c. police. that distinction goes to sonya proctor who served as interim chief in 1997. d.c. mayor muriel bowser will have to fill two sheets. chief lanier steps down on september 17th. the chancellor, kaya henderson leaves at the end of september. 6:15 now. this morning, two people are in prison for allegedly using teenagers for a trafficking scheme. the two have been indicted on charges that include prostitution. police are still looking for a third i

joshua jones. according to charging documents, since 2013, the suspects lured victims by posing as on online modeling and escort agency. fairfax county police say a man attacked stuart guards with a post before he was shot and killed. the 29-year-old was just discharged from the hospital. the guards were walking him to the bus stop when he had a mental health episode. a fairfax county deputy shot him multiple times after failed attempts to negotiate with him. the deputy is on administrative leave as the investigation continues. 6:16 right now. jesus alfredo guzman, the son of joaquin "el chapo" guzman was one of several people kidnapped from a restaurant on monday in puerto val art a. for two decades, "el chapo" has single handedly run the sinaloa

the man went underwater near billy goat trail and did no, sir resurface. d.c. police investigate a viral video showing an officer pinning the young women against the car with her feet dangling off the ground. they are aware of the series of videos posted on twitter monday afternoon. this happened near a bus stop at 7th and t streets northwest. it's not clear what prompted the officer's reaction there. no charges have been filed at this point and the woman was released. the woman in the video said on twitter, she did nothing wrong. >> either way you look at it, it's harassment. i'm a school teacher and i help these little girls all day every day. it's no reason to assume somebody doing the wrong thing. >> police have not said whether any action has been taken against the officer. it was an exclamation point for the women's gymnastics team. they took gold and silver in the floor exercise fienlts.

breaking news in san bernardino county, california. a wildfire is causing a state of emergency. the blue cut fire pretty much exploded in size overnight. it's forcing tens of thousands of evacuations and has destroyed a dozen homes and businesses. adrian arm beaulieu in los angeles is in front of one of the buildings. >> reporter: we're standing next to what used to be the summit inn dating back to the 1950s. a historic place and american landmark that sits along the i-15 and the cajon pass. some of biggest names in american history stopped here. everyone from elvis presley to john wayne. television shows were shot here like i love lucy, movies were shot here as well. it is in ruins. it is one of at least a dozen homes and businesses that have been destroyed or damaged in the blue cut fire. it started around 10:30 on tuesday mo
