breaking news in prince george's coin, a major crash on 210 that could impact your commute. >> this is all happening in the northbound lanes between palmer and livingston. we have team coverage for you this morning getting you up to the minute the minute you are up. let's start with erika gonzalez at the live desk. >> let me tell you what we have because we think this could impact your commute if you are coming out of southern maryland. what we know this is in oxon hi hill. this is in northbound 210 wean palmer and livingston in oxon hill. if you are coming out of southern maryland this morning, you need to know this is an accident here possibly impacting you

we're not sure how many cars are involved. i want to send this over to melissa mollet who can tell us more about the impact on the roads. >> going to be a big problem for sure if this hangs around. oxon hill road might be a good suggestion for you this morning if it sticks around too long. northbound indian head highway is shut down at palmer and livingston road. southbound is unaffected. another big problem, 9th and o in northwest. pedestrian struck. it sounds like a fatal crash right there. southbound, wisconsin near dorset, all lanes are blocked. northbound bw parkway to 32, blocked due to a crash and response as well. we'll update you on all of that right now. >> going to be that kind of a morning. i'm aaron gilchrist.

for a second time this week a lot of you are waking up to damage after a night of strong storms. [ sirens ] >> you can see here from the video the down pour from last night and flooding was a concern as well. >> combine that with some powerful winds and there are a lot of downed trees and wires this morning. >> storm team 4 meteorologist chuck bell has the latest on our forecast today. are we in the clear, chuck? >> we're almost in the clear. our severe weather threat is over. that's the good news this morning. still dealing with light rain out there first thing. this will also not last too much longer. what you need to know, cool, with puddles this morning. sunny and hot this afternoon. our next chance for severe weather looks to be on sunday. we'll be watching that very carefully. that is ahead of the real break from the intense heat we've been suffering the last couple of weeks.

showers to about the plains toward warington. these showers are coming eastbound. they will be on i-95 in the next 30 to 45 minutes. we'll track that for you over the next couple of hours. remember the story about ryan lochte being held up at gunpoint in rio. well that story is developing this morning. we've got some new avoid to -- video to show you. the three american swimmers, one of them from rockville, jack conger . this is new video from the group exiting the police station south of rio but the men en route home when they were call in by police. one of them already is ryan lochte, he's already back on american soil. back over to you. more now on that developing story erika is reporting on.

brazilian authorities began suspicious of the story. it showed the athletes checking back into the olympic village. men weren't acting like they were robbed. seemed to have the items taken during the robbery. he spoke to the "today" show by phone and said he may have embellished what happened. >> when he talked to me, he says that's when the guy pointed the gun and cocked it. you said before it was placed in your forehead and cocked. he said no, that's not exactly what happened. he feels it was more of a traumatic mischaracterization. >> the u.s. olympic committee released a statement in part that jack conger and jack bentz will continue their conversations with police today. ryan lochte is back in the u.s. and says he was nev

stay in brazil for further questions. the ntsb is now investigating that deadly explosion at the flower branch apartments in silver spring. today marks one week since that blast. the agency's senior pipeline investigator has been on site from beginning. seven people died there. still no word on what exactly caused that explosion. sources tell news 4 the preliminary cause of that blast could be out by tomorrow. but until those results are released, some people who live in the flower branch apartments say that they are scared to go back home. many are still trying to figure out what their next move is. residents like felishia and her husband came back to their apartment to get a few things. she was unsure about what will happen next. until she learns exactly what happened one week ago, she doesn't feel safe. >> all of us were so scared seeing what happened next door to our neighbors. >> until the results come back, felishia and her husband are

splitting their time between the car and a hotel. anger and disappointment, prince george's county is reacting after a federal head start grant is pulled after allegations of abuse and poor training. according to the review, one incident involved a three-year-old boy who was forced to mop up the floor after he had a bathroom accident. the school district ceo says the allegations are unacceptable. >> what i can say is our expect our employees to behave appropriately, and when they don't, i'm going to deal with them appropriately. >> the district plans to appeal and during that time the federal government must keep the funding in place. the program is still set to begin on august 29th. back here at the live desk, we're learning about a fatal pedestrian accident in northwest d.c. we understand this happened at 9t

in northwest. police tell us the driver did stay on the scene, but again a pedestrian truck and killed at 9th and p streets in northwest this morning. back over to you. the spread of the zika virus through a south florida community has officials in fairfax county taking notice. they will hold a zika town hall meeting tonight at 7:00. 60 cases have been found across virginia, all are travel-related. the meeting is about getting ahead of the problem. >> educating people. what the symptoms are. what to look for, leth people know and get comfort as to what fairfax county is doing and we're on top of it. >> 29 of the 60 cases have been found in northern virginia. health officials say only one in five people with the virus shows symptoms. let's

victims. william madison, jr was arrested once in july after an incident on a blue line train in arlington county. after his release, police say he did it again this time on an orange line train in vienna. 6,000 people are living in shelters right now. the flooding in louisiana is not letting up in some places. in fact, the water is rising even more in certain spots. as far as 100 miles away from baton rouge. at this point, 30,000 people have been rescued. officials say 11 people have died in the flooding. search crews have been going door to door and checking sunken cars to try and find anyone else. montgomery county police are trying to figure out why a man's car crossed into oncoming traffic killing him after a head-on collision. this happened in burton'sville. the driver of the other car was expected to recover.

classmates gathered at christopher barry's high school last night to honor his memory. the son of the late mayor marion barry graduated wilson high school. organizers of the event say christopher barry touched the hearts of many of the people he grew up with. according to a police report, he smoked p 2 and pcp before collapsing on sunday. he died at the hospital. a new poll shows that voters want bob mcdonnell to stay out of public office. 67% of respondents say mcdonnell should not run for elected office again. while 21% say he should. among republicans polled, 60% said he should stay in private life. a manager was told he somehow

hear me. i can say this anything this early. 75 degrees right now. still dealing with clouds and rain drops here early this morning. yesterday, another very hot day for sure. we made 95 yesterday. so far this summer we've been over 90 degrees 41 times. more impressive than that, we've been above 9518 times already this summer. we've had a lot of extremely hot days. today will be another hot one. it won't be as hot. our cooling trend continues. 95 on monday -- on tuesday. 95 yesterday and only in the low 90s today. we're watching rains across parts of northern virginia here. nothing heavy. no severe weather threat from this point forward. we will be dealing with light to moderate rain here between now and about 7:00 or 8:00 this morning before things dry out. future weather carries all that rain out of here by about 8:00

report. 4:57 now. news 4 your health. behind the scenes look at how researchers are working to develop a vaccine for the zika virus. researchers are breeding mosquitos in an environmental chamber. those mosquitos will be infected with zika so scientists can figure out how the virus progresses. they take every precaution when dealing with the live virus. >> i have total confidence we're not putting them at risk. we know we're not. >> the lab would not say how close their scientists are in developing a zika vaccine. we've reported that car thefts have been decreasing over the last several years. new information shows that car jackings have been going up in some areas of our region after reaching a six-year low of 134 car jackings in the district back in 2014, that number went up by 10% last year and

increase this year. car jackings where the suspects use a gun are on track to near a six-year high in the district as well. the numbers in d.c. are not as high as they are in baltimore. what's so disconcerting about this is this is an invasion of our inner space, our inner sanctum and our psycher. our zone of security. now,over all in maryland, car jackings have gone down, including in montgomery and prince george's counties. in baltimore, car jackings are on pace to double this year. this will not be welcome news to at&t customers. >> the customer is raising rates on its data plans. it will cost more to have more data but the price per gigabyte will be lower. the new rates will begin on sunday. for now you can keep your existing data plan but if you want to change your data l
