>> reporter: chris, she was attacked on her way home crossing the key bridge. and tonight, that has some bridge walkers looking over their shoulder. >> does it make you think twice about walking across this bridge by yourself? >> yeah, but i think it would be safe for everybody. male, female. >> reporter: what happened here yesterday, unnerving to bridge walkers. you see, the key bridge, a popular walkway between georgetown and arlington, became a crime scene. >> i hope the police understand that they need to be vigilant, particularly if there are women walking alone. >> reporter: the victim, a 27-year-old woman walking across the bridge to her home in arlington. it was around 2:30 in the morning. she had

arlington side of the bridge when a man grabbed her from behind and then dragged her to the brush down below. >> once he pulled her off to the side, he attempted to place his hands up her shorts. she fought back. he put his hands over her mouth and told her to be quiet. she fought back and freed herself from the male suspect. >> reporter: the suspect made his escape by running back over the bridge towards d.c. arlington cops are checking with city police to see if they have any similar cases there. in the meantime, this advice for bridge walkers. >> when you're out and about, walk with another person if you're going to be on foot. >> reporter: the suspect, he's still at large. now, expect to see more cops on patrol on and around that key bridge. angie, back to you. >> pat, thank you. new video tonight of a man wanted for killing

store employee. prince george's county police saying this is video of the suspect robbing a hotel in clinton just minutes after that deadly shooting at the 7-eleven. investigators believe the man was trying to rob that nearby 7-eleven when he shot and killed the clerk. a massive fire in prince george's county has crews scrambling to keep crews away from potentially toxic materials. the fire is now out at that fire in bladensburg. >> but the probe in to what caused it and the damage assessment is just beginning. darcy spencer has the latest. darcy? >> reporter: well, i can tell you, like you said, the fire is out but chances are, if you were anywhere near this area today, you may have seen that thick, black smoke in the sky and tonight the prince george's county fire chief is explaining to us why at first only one fire truck was sent to the scene. it took hours to get this fire

single engine dispatched. but they quickly found out much more would be needed. it eventually went to three alarms, drawing 60 firefighters and help from montgomery county. this cell phone video taken by a man who works nearby shows the early stages of the fire fight as intense flames were growing. >> the original came in as an outside fire. there was a calm of smoke and those units got here and found fire coming out the bay doors that you see back there. >> reporter: dozens of prince george's county firefighters were called here to abc supply on kennelworth avenue and took hours to get it under control. the smoke could be scene for smiles and depending on the wind made it impossible to see. the fire was contained to an open air log

thousands of students in d.c. are back home and some are describing what it's like in a first of its kind school in the district. >> but it didn't open without controversy. news4's mark segraves is live with that story. mark? >> good evening, angie. the ron brown school here in northeast behind me is different for several reasons.

high school and focusing only on young men of color. but there's something else that differentiates the students at this schoolç from every other d.c. public school. here at the ron brown prep school in northeast, they all did something no other d.c. public school students had to do this morning. they each had to put on a coat and tie. >> we used our uniforms as an enrollment incentive. if people enrolled early, they were able to get free uniforms. >> for this 14-year-old, wearing a ct and tie to school is part of the appeal, according to a new school focused on young men like him. >> it's not a bummer to me. it's something that's like another high standard for me. you've got to wear a suit and tie to school. that's professional. that shows that people hold higher expectations for me and that's something that i want to step up to. >> reporter: priorto

the school, which will serve only young men of color, mayor bowser was criticized by some thinking that focusing only on young men and not women was a mistake. >> we're not a one size fits all school district. just because it works for some, it doesn't mean it works for all of our people. we are looking at the data around our girls. they have some different challenges and we want to design the right strategies for our girls and not stuff them in the boy's box. >> reporter: now, about 75% of d.c. public schools have some type of uniform requirement but this new school here, ron brown, is the only school that requires a coat and tie and i can tell you even gonzaga, the long-time college prep school in downtown washington where our own david culver and i went, they used to have a coat and tie requirement but no longer. that's the very latest, mark segraves, news4. >> it's old school in d.c., ma

coat and tie. thank you very much for that great story. you know, a busy street is back open in downtown d.c. a stretch of l street between 18th and 19th has been closed since a fire broke out last week. an underground transformer exploded and knocked out power. investigators are trying to figure out why it blew up. a federal judge for the northern district of texas granted a nationwide injunction temporarily blocking guidance from the obama administration. in may, the federal government directed federal schools to allow transgender students and locker rooms consistent with their gender identity. 13 states appealed to the courts arguing that the directive is unconstitutional. tonight, some of you in montgomery county are being told to stay inside as officials spray

t for mosquitos. the counties are going to start spraying around 7:30. it's expanding its mosquito patrol program due to concerns about the west nile and zika viruses. >> leaders say they need more help fighting the zika virus. debbie wasserman schultz is calling on congress to return from summer break to deal with this outbreak. president obama called for $2 million in emergency funds back in february to develop a vaccine and control the mosquitos that carry the virus. lawmakers left in mid-july for a seven-week recess without approving any of the money. >> mosquitos, zika, not republicans and it's not democrats. it's an issue that affects all of us. we need to come together as one and make sure we get the proper funding so we can eradicate this and get it taken care of

age. a marine veteran lost his right to vote a few years ago. both had their hopes of voting in november dashed last month with the virginia supreme court ruling. today, hopes were restored by the governor's new plan. robert mcneil has never cast a ballot so he was thrilled when governor terry mcauliffe personally handed him an order restoring his voting rights. he registered immediately. >> then what happened, the rug got pulled from under me, so so speak. >> reporter: he received this letter just after the supreme court and the voter registration canceled. the governor says he's once again restoring civil rights to the 13,000 felon who is quickly moved to register. as for the rest, a new process is in place to review each one on

now mcneil hopes he'll get one of the new letters rerestoring his rights. >> since i was informed that they were mailed on friday, i will be looking at the mail today, no doubt. >> reporter: his friend lost his right to vote shortly before the 2008 election. >> voting is a part of life and once you've done your time and paid your fines, you should be part of society with all the rights given to society. >> reporter: those who criticized and challenged the restoration plan still see problems with this one. the list of those getting rights restored, it includes some he doesn't think has pulled their full debt to society. >> and i have one defendant that owes nearly $100,000 in

game, running back matt jones injured his shoulder. we found out from jay gruden that jones will miss the rest of the preseason. his coach hopes the recovery time will be quick but wants to make sure that he's opened for the season opener on september 12th against the pittsburgh steelers. jones suffered that injury on friday in the second preseason game of the year. gruden didn't say if he would come to visit but robert kelly and keith marshall will do first team reps this week. despite what the team calls a second-degree sprain, jones is confident. >> i don't feel it's a setback at all. i can learn from it and keep having some visual learning and definitely learned this week watching and learning from little stuff. i don't feel like it's a
