a brazen attack on a young woman as she walked across from georgetown to arlington. the 27-year-old was grabbed and thrown into the grass near the key bridge around 2:30 sunday morning. she fought off the attacker who ran back across the bridge toward georgetown. police are urging walkers to be watchful, especially at night. with fears over the spread of zika rising across the country, it is another mosquito borne disease that has health officials in mogadishu county taking pre -- montgomery county taking precautions. this is footage crews shot last night in investigators -- gaithersburg and kensington. health officials also urge residents to bring in pet bowls and turn off any window air conditioning units. schools in parts of florida are not taking any chances when it comes to the zika virus. many are handing out uniforms withov

sleeves and bug spray for free. it's recorded 37 home grown cases of zika in the case. not everyone is concerned. >> many have applied insect repellent. but there are no worries. >> there is no evidence that the zika virus is dangerous for children. in fact, they are unlikely even to show symptoms as is the case for most people. families say what they are worried about are the kids' pregnant mothers and the potential for serious birth defects. fire investigators are trying to figure out what caused a massive fire at a warehouse in prince george's county. look at those flames and thick black smoke. it took 60 firefighters to get the fire under control this was at a supply company building in bladensburg. they were concerned the fire would reach combustible supplies inside a warehouse. no one was hurt. >>

live desk. we start out west with wild fires that will not stop burning. in fact, some of them just keep on growing. windy, dry conditions making things a lot worse out there. look at all the smoke there in the mountains. thousands of people are being evacuated in central california. also washington state and oregon. firefighters trying their best to just contain the flames but some of the fires jumping those containment lines. southern california, 58,000-square-foot fire there. look at the glow of all the flames on the ground there. the worst part is that california's state fire department is stretched very thin right now as it is the peak of fire season there. we'll keep our eyes on it. back to you. kristin wright for us at the live desk. happening today, president obama will head to baton rouge, louisiana, to get a firsthand k

it is back to school for thousands of kids in prince george's county today. thousands more are already back in class or will be in the classroom soon. >> and it is not cheap to get kids ready for the school year. a study called the huntington backpack index says the price of classroom supplies is down this year but you'll be paying more for activity fees. expect to spend $659 for each elementary age school child. nearly $1,500 for each high schooler. that is a 7% increase from just last year. it all adds up. that's not including, food, groceries. >> that's what should be posted

yesterday in ohio but he did not use his time at the rally to clarify reports about changes to his immigration policy. nbc edward lawrence is live on capitol hill more. he was supposed to make this immigration policy speech on thursday mp now he postponed it. what's going on there? >> reporter: the answer is we don't know. he's going to revamp his immigration policy. he said he will follow the existing laws on the book for some of the illegal immigrants. walking back his plan to deport them all. he's going to divide illegal immigrants into two categories, the bad ones will be deported immediately. everyone else will go through the laws already on the books in order to become a u.s. citizen. >> what about hillary clinton, the email controversy, she doesn't seem to be able to shake it. >> a judge has ordered the state

that have been released. judicial watch released the 15,000 emails. they were deleted from her server but the fbi were able to recover the emails. some of them show a pattern of big donors to the secretary of state going directly to there. governor terry mcauliffe has restored the voting rights of nearly 13,000 felons who completed their sentences. this comes after virginia supreme court denied governor's blanket order to restore voting rights. each case is being reviewed individually to comply with the ruling. >> to me, voting is a part of life and once you've done your time, you've paid your fines, and they put you back i

this is new video of what happened sunday morning. the man was in a bad accident. his leg was pinned inside the car. the engine went up in frames. the rescuers used bottled water and fire extinguisher to pulled out the fire. police are looking for a person who shot two people on a highway in virginia. that happened on i-64 in norfolk yesterday afternoon. state police as a pickup truck merged on to the highway the man and woman in the backseat were each hit by a bullet. they were rushed to the hospital. police say they will both survive. police have no idea who fired the shots or if they came from another moving vehicle. the boy who was snatched and killed by an alley gator at walt disney world was building a sand castle at the time of the attack. the 7-foot reptile bent the
