during rush hour yesterday, a private ambulance was trans pof porting a patient when the man jumped out of the door and ran to the jersey wall. you can see the patient roll out of the ambulance right in the center lane of traffic. he got up, stumbled over to the shoulder and jumped over the wall. the ambulance attendant followed him as other vehicles tried to get by the scene. maryland state police tell us the patient was finally found last night walking near his home in prince george's county and the man is now back in the hospital. we're also following several new developments involving the zika virus. u.s. health officials reported the first case of a man who had no symptoms spreading the virus through sex. a man from maryland went to the dominican republic where there's been an outbreak of zika. he didn't get sick but his partner back home did and has since recovered. the food and drugdm

screening for zika. before now, only areas with active transmission like south florida had to test their blood supply. john hopkins announced the creation of the first ever zika virus center designed to streamline the treatment. the university of miami held a news conference with a mother who contracted the virus and she's terrified that her baby will get the disease. tim kaine on the trail today visiting the historically black florida university. he called out donald trump's campaign again for garnering the support of white extremist groups. he echos what running mate hillary clinton told msnbc's "morning joe" today. >> it's deeply disturbing that he is taking hate groups that

lived in the dark regions of the internet and making them mainstream. >> yesterday, trump doubled down on his characterization of clinton as a bigot and is launching a new attack ad showing clips of clinton using the term super predator back in the 1990s while supporting her husband's crime bill which critics have blamed for contributing to the overincarceration of african-americans. italy is still facing aftershocks today and the death toll has risen to 278 people. at least 50 are still unaccounted for. that number could go higher this weekend. crews are sifting through the rubble trying to find more survivors but at this point they are starting to lose hope. the magnitude 6.2 quake hit wednesday and since then there have been nearly a thousand aftershocks, including one today with a magnitude of 1.74.

school board is making steps to save its head start program. they are meeting with the government today to figure out how to move forward. bureau chief tracee wilkins is at dhs headquarters with a look at what comes next. tracee? >> reporter: the administration for children and families is located here behind me in southwest d.c. and, yes, members of the board of education have been in there along with the county executives trying to figure out the next step. this is the organization over the department or over head start. they voted to relinquish the federal head start grant after 50 years as a grantee after allegations of student abuse and neglect surfaced during an investigation. it was also revealed that prince george's county schools has a problem with reporting incidents like these to the head start offices like they are supposed

today, the board chair was a guest of a show with news4's tom sherwood. we spoke with him there. about five members of the board are calling for him and his vice chair's resignation. >> the county executive made a statement of support and that's what i needed. i am deeply committed to the students in prince george's county, deeply committed to seeing the type of change that we need to have happen, that we're going in the right direction. >> reporter: the task force is already hard at work. they have selected an interim head start program to manage the money that used to go to the school system. now what they have to do is figure out the next step, what it's going to look like and, importantly, the transition for teachers who were working under the prince george's county school system into this new grantee's system. more of that at 5:00 reporting live in southwest, tracee wilkins, back to you in the

the u.s. department of education has taken enforcement action against three schools that specialize in medical education. >> now hundreds of students are left scrambling to find somewhere else to go. many of those students calling news4 for help and answers. they were all supposed to start school in a few weeks only to learn the schools are now closing. nbc 4 trying to get answers at one of med tech's campuses radiance college in d.c. even though know one at the school is talking to us, students are. >> i am devastated. i'm so sad. i didn't even know what to do when i read the e-mail. i was shaking. i'm just like, you know, i don't know where to go. >> reporter: flnatasha is talki about this e-mail from the board of directors explaining that the school is

september 16th. the u.s. department of education cut off federal students financial aid to three med tech college campuses in falls church, maryland and d.c. the department says an investigation into the for-profit school uncovered egregious misrepresentation of job placement rates. in a statement, the department of education says "students should be able to trust colleges are telling the truth, not using smoke and mirrors about their graduates' job placement rates. unfortunately, medtech violated the trust by valuing profits over the students they serve." medtech college is a for-pro fit chain specializing in medical schooling, including nursing. but for students like amanda, she spent thousands of dollars for an education that she says is now worthless. >> they are saying that you can transfer to other schools
