to be a named storm before the end of the day today and turn back toward the florida coastline here, potentially late wednesday night into the early morning hours of thursday, making landfall somewhere north of tampa bay up toward the big bend of florida and going back out into the open waters of the atlanta, somewhere near jacksonville florida. early indications this will be off the eastern coast that will bring us a nice labor day weekend. let's go back into the news because this storm could affect the redskins. >> definitely is, chuck. the redskins final preseason game is not going to happen on thursday. the game has been moved up now to wednesday. it was tweeted last night due to expected severe weather, thursday night's game has been moved to wednesday. you can catch the game, of course, right here on nbc4 tomorrow night at 8:00. we want to head

avenue near 10th street. molette green is live at the scene. you spoke to someone who lives near there. what did they say? >> reporter: lots more questions than answers at this point. the only thing we're hearing from police in terms of confirmation that a man is dead, shot late last night. working to get more information on a motive and suspect information. so about 20 minutes ago, i was able to speak to a woman who came outside her front door to find police tape blocking her exit from her home and to her car. this is along the outside or outbound side of rhode island avenue. she said she heard last night what sounded like gunshots. >> i was kind of scared. i didn't want to go out or see out the windows so i just like was awake and waiting for something or somebody to

handled. a brand-new poll with the election. >> the poll just released in the last few minutes shows donald trump chipping away at hillary clinton's lead nationally. clinton leading trump by six points. 48% to 42%. clinton falling two points since last week's poll. now, in a four-way general election match-up, clinton leads trump by just four points. the poll also found that donald trump is making inroads with registered independents. clinton leads trump by only four points there among those voters. that's down from 12 points two weeks ago. the poll is among registered voters and has a margin of error of plus or minus 1%, angie. back to you. >> thank you. senate minority leader harry reid wants the fbi to investigate the

police say they do not have any suspect information to pass along at this point. kristin wright for us following developments at the live desk. virginia tech is on high alert this morning after dozens of people received email threats. the school's newspaper says that the one sentence email threatened to kill people on campus. virginia tech's police chief did not confirm the details, but did say other schools received similar emails yesterday and all are being investigated. virginia tech's campus is open and classes will not be canceled. police in richmond are investigating a series of sex assaults near virginia commonwealth university. there have been three reported sex assaults in just the last week. according to police all three occurred off campus and in all three cases the victim are recently met the attacker. the school says it is committed to keeping the students safe. >> having any number of assaults is never good and we don't want to have any of our students face

car. they say his injuries are life-threatening. it's still unclear what caused that tree to snap. it was an absolutely awful crash that happened here on river road and the state highway administration has begun making changes. you see these poles coming up. there will be new flashing overhead signs telling drivers that someone might be in that turn lane coming across river road. also new turn only lanes are going to be put in place here at river road and if you take a look at the intersection in question, you can see how dangerous sometimes it's for cars to go across oncoming traffic. it can be an absolute crap shoot. residents and students have been calling for change. they say

osman sesay is charged with first degree murder. he was watching the little boy while his girlfriend was at work. the boy died from blunt force injuries to his head and torso. and suffered a lacerated liver. the trial is set to last through thursday. metro says it's listening to your concerns and providing free wi-fi. megan mcgrath has more on why this could be useful during your commute. >> reporter: good morning. it's a 45-day pilot program, free wi-fi being offered to metro customers at six stations, including here at union station. this is going to allow people to get on line and take a look at some of metro's features. things like an interactive map where you'll be able to click on an icon and figure out when the next train is coming, how long that train is going to be and so folks are going to be able to manage their commute. then from that landing page, that metro landing page, customers will be able to go to other websites, they are going to be able to

throughout their commute. now here are the six stations in the pilot program. take a look at the map. union station, metro center, gallery place, judiciary square, archives and l'enfant plaza. one man i spoke to says it's going to make his commute easier. >> i think one of issues that i have right now is that the systems in the station itself don't seem to always be up-to-date or fully cognizant of when trains are coming. anything that would help out with that would be great. >> reporter: and so the program is going to go on for 45 days, then metro is going to circle back, talk to customers, get their feedback, find out what works, what needs to perhaps be tweaked but the ultimate goal here is to eventually provide wi-fi service to all of metro's 91 stations.

megan mcgrath is live at union station with more. >> reporter: metro customers want to be able to stay qeked to surf the internet, web, while they are riding the rails. metro is trying to make that happen with a 45-day pilot program that's going to bring free wi-fi to six stations, including here, union station. this is going to allow customers to get on line to go to a landing page from metro. they are going to be click on a map, get realtime information about, for example, when the next train is going to arrive, exactly -- give them an exact time. also tell them the length of the train. they can also access metro's trip planner so they can manage their commute from that landing page, customers are then going to be able to go on to other websites and continue to search on the internet, using this wi-fi. here are the stations. union station, metro center, gallery place, judiciary square,
