breaking news in montgomery county tonight. police have arrested an 18-year-old for stabbing a pregnant woman near the wheaton mall this afternoon. police say it happened behind a school there. investigators are calling it a domestic-related crime. we're trying to learn more about the woman's condition and a possible motive. we'll have an update later in our broadcast. to our weather now. people in florida are already bracing for hermine as the tropical storm inches closer to land. it's been raining all day in tampa. ahead of tonight's redskins, bucs game. jason has more on the conditions, first we go to doug. he's in gaithersburg tracking the storm's path. hi, doug. >> reporter: you mentioned the fact that tampa's been seeing the rain all day. the redskins, you know, they tried to move the game one day early because hermine was going

to be macoming ashore tomorrow. a lot of rain is towards the tampa bay area. they've seen some flooding down there a little bit earlier today. take a look at the rain, this will be one wet game. we told you that on monday night. the storm itself, that's in the white there, you see the storm well down to the south and west of florida. take a look at the track. the latest, winds of 45 miles per hour moving to the north northeast at 7 miles per hour. it will move to the north of tampa, closer to the tallahassee area. this was something we told you yesterday, we expected a track to the west. further to the west and that's what's happened and bringing it towards our area. d.c. in the cone of uncertainty. what we're seeing with this storm the fact we think this may stick around, not just for a day, but maybe most of the labor day weekend. we're going to have much more on that. amelia draper and i will join you in a couple of minutes with the latest to what this storm means to your labor day weekend.

at 8:00 right here on nbc 4. we'll have more on the weather and how that will impact this game coming up later in sports. that's going to do it for me at raymond james stadium. i'll send it back to you in studio. thank you, jason. now to a bizarre case in montgomery county. man accused of posing as a police officer and preying on prostitutes. today that man was convicted in a case where prosecutors say he actually attacked a woman with a knife. new at 6:00. pat collins talked with the victim and he joins us from outside the courthouse in rockville, pat? >> reporter: he pretended to be a john. then he pretended to be a cop. he ended up stabbing and wounding a prostitute with her own knife. a few minutes ago, by phone, the victim talked about that attack. >> i fought back with him. i wasn't letting him tie me up

i fought back and got ahold of my knife. and he shoved me into the share and the knife went into my side. >> reporter: we call her monica, she's a 22-year-old prostitute. for obvious reasons we're concealing her identity. she was stabbed and wounded in this hotel room by a man posing as a cop. that man, 38-year-old larry steele convicted today of that assault. monica was in court for that. when you saw him in court, what was that like today? >> reporter: i couldn't really look at him. you know, i tried my hardest not to look his way because it was just bringing back memories. like flash backs. i tried not to look at him. >> reporter: the scene the radisson hotel in rockville, police say steele posed as a john, then a cop and then came the assault. he said he was a cop?

i'm here in kensington maryland near wheaton mall. you can see this crime scene tape on the other side where montgomery police are investigating a stabbing. right now they are trying to determine why an 18-year-old man allegedly stabbed a 19-year-old pregnant woman. let's show you some video from chopper 4. police say this was a domestic stabbing, that happened near crossway community school around 3:20 this eervening. they tell thus couple is not affiliated with the school. police say the woman was stabbed in the upper body. medics drove her to a trauma center. we do not know her condition. investigators tell me this is a domestic stabbing. they won't say if the suspect is the father of the unborn baby. police arrested him and they say that plain clothes officers spotted him, he allegedlyto

in at 6:05 p.m. fire and medical units weren't dispatched until 6:11 because the 911 operator was unsure of the location. >> i think it took some time to figure out exactly where this incident was occurring. again, we had multiple addresses. we had multiple locations. >> reporter: district officials would not release the 911 tape but did allow news 4 to listen to it. the caller can be heard clearly describing the location as rock creek parkway just after the connecticut avenue exit. the 911 operator insists on either an intersection or a street address. >> this is a very important issue. we're going to be looking at this, obviously. >> reporter: the d.c. office of unified communications hopes to have better technology by next year. that would enable 911 operators to pinpoint the location of every 911 call. >> when next generation 911 comes, we'll be

governor hogan today gives students in maryland an extra week of vacation. >> starting next year public schools won't begin until after labor day and the school year will be required to end by june 15th. >> studies have shown that starting school after labor day will have no adverse effects whatsoever. but that it will actually provide a substantial boost to maryland's economy. >> the governor says it will allow families extra time together and benefit maryland businesses as well. prince georges bureau chief tracy wilkins has some of the fallout on this. >> reporter: this is something that has been debated in maryland for years. even the o'malley administration considered this. today, governor hogan took a step. >> that is amazing. >> reporter: dawn carter student at wise high school couldn't be happier about how her school year is going to start off next year.

he also suffered a lacerated liver. he says he found the baby unconscious after the child wandered off. russia is taking cred for killing the spokesman and chief strategist for isis. isis says its second in command abu mohammad al adnani was killed yesterday. officials are dismissing russia's claim. they have not confirmed he was killed. his death would be a major setback for the terror group. al adnani was known for his call for lone attacks in the west. for the first time in 55 years a commercial flight has travelled from the u.s. to cuba. it was a jetblue flight that left ft. lauderdale, florida, and then landed in santa clara in central cuba. it took approximately 72 minutes and that trip opens a new era of u.s. cuba trave
