tonight the d.c. mayor and the interim police chief made the announcement behind me at the department's fourth district police head quarters on georgia avenue. this young lady had her life candidate ahead of her. she had a 3.0 grade point average. she was the captain of the dance team. her family is devastated. this family is relieved. d.c. police arrested the woman accused of killing 17-year-old kalia minor. >> we forgive you, but it hurt us. because god want us to forgive, but it hurts so bad, like why? that's all i want to know. why. >> reporter: tonight police say the teens knew each other and began arguing. when it stopped at the intersection of kansas avenue

sidewalk. that's when jones pulled out a knife and stabbed kalia in the chest. doctors pronounced her dead at the hospital. jones turned herself into police this evening. we asked what the two were arguing about. >> we can't talk about specifics in the face. and tomorrow when it's presented in court, she was presented as an adult. a lot of that information will be available. >> i don't know what caused this fight. but i know whatever it was, it wasn't important enough for a to have signed her life away. >> kalia's mother is devastated? >> it destroyed me. it was just me and her. and she's gone. >> tonight her family has a message for the suspect. >> and i know you can't sleep at night because it's going to haunt you for the rest of your life. >> reporter: and tonight kalia's

table. residents can sign up for an overdose training program that includes a dose of the anti-overdose drug. in st. mary's county, jackie bensen, news 4. tonight the dea is pushing for new laws to ban a new unregulated synthetic opioid. come are calling it pink or pinky on social media. it's more than twice as as heroin. paramedics say the drugs are bought legally online and shipped to users in the mail. they've been linked to more than 50 deaths nationwide this year. only four states have made this specific drug illegal. none of them in our area. our team has done several reports on why it's so hard to ban individual synthetic drugs. you can find them on the nbc washington app by searching synthetic drugs.
