chilly saturday. cool and breezy on sunday. right now, temperatures are rather balmy. we're in the upper 60s, near 70 degrees. reagan national at 68. don't have any showers anywhere in our vicinity but they're well off to our west. western pennsylvania, ohio, into west virginia, eastern kentucky. these are advancing off to the north and east, likely coming into the metro area during the afternoon and lingering into the evening. i'll have the new hour by hour timing on that i'll have the commuter report on this friday morning. melissa is talking about a road closure. >> we have a road closure in northwest. at rock creek parkway at massachusetts avenue. all lanes are blocked. northbound traffic at this moment pushed on to p street and southbound turned around and sent up waterside drive. it is a one mile back up in that area. it is pretty slow. allow extra time if you're headed that way at any time soon. sounds like it will be out of the way in the next 40 minutes

everybody, southbound, you see no slow downs. no worries. 95 and maryland, no problem there. i'll see you in a few. we're following breaking news in the district while you slept, bullets flew late last night into multiple cars and buildings including an apartment building. there you see the damage there. this happened in the area of stanton and naylor roads around 10:00 p.m. and multiple scenes. no injuries reported. we're working to get suspect information. we have our meagan mcgrath headed there right now to give us a live update in a minute. i'm molette green at the live desk. metro riders are voicing their frustration as metro leaders consider new service cuts. the board is weighing the decision to cut an additional eight hours per week of rail service in the name of safety. for ten hours at a public

computer glitches with online registration and high demand. the virginia department of elections website is back up and running. you can also register in person at the registrar's office until 5:00 p.m. if you're mailing in your registration, make sure it has a post mark of today. these times also apply if you're changing your address. there are fewer than three weeks until election day and the candidates are focusing on battleground states today. hillary clinton will rally in ohio and bill clinton h florida. joe biden and tim kaine have events in pennsylvania. that is where donald trump will be as well today after a rally in north carolina. governor mike pence will speak with supporters in new hampshire. hillary accidently bumped into me and she very civilly said pardon me. >> it is amazing i'm up here after donald. i didn't think he would be okay

just in to the newsroom this morning, videos of home and cars shot up in d.c. megan mcgrath is getting her live shot set-up and we'll bring you the latest in a moment. >> the celebrity who knocks on your door this morning. who plans for stumping for hillary clinton in our area. >> if you plan to spend any time your big forecast. >> a cold front is approaching. ahead of that, we have balmy temperatures. the weather underground network showing it is well into the 60s, shenandoah valley, virginia, maryland, along the bay, in washington in the upper 60s. a little sunshine, dealing with that for the morning commute. dry roads, will be in the upper 60s and by noon time, you'll notice the winds picking up. we'll be in the mid-70s and upper 70s by mid afternoon and we'll have likely showers coming

that is going to be for the afternoon commute. no rain anywhere in the vicinity on storm team4 radar but we have the showers in pennsylvania and out in ohio and west virginia and kentucky. those will be moving in later this afternoon. we have the hour by hour timing on that at 5:21. melissa has an update on the road closure in the district. >> so, again, we have rock creek parkway shut down there at massachusetts avenue with all lanes blocked in both directions. here is what they're doing right now. northbound traffic at this point this morningei around and sent up waterside drive here this morning to try to keep those away from the scene as they're trying to clear that. 270 south from 70 down to the spur, you can see we're on time there, going to take you 27 minutes as you're headed southbound. northbound, nice and clear as well. earlier roadwork is out of the way there. northbound bw parkway at the beltway. left line is getting by. it held on late yesterday and we saw real delays there.

of the beltway things are going nicely. 11 minutes after the hour, developing right now, two shootings have neighbors in southeast d.c. on high alert this morning. windows, walls, cars, blasted with bullets overnight in two separate incidents. megan mcgrath is live now with new information from d.c. police. megan? >> reporter: well, a pretty scary situation and take a look at the video here, this is from one of the scenes on naylor road. around 10:00 last nig, through a window and you can see in the video there, pierced the window, went into the apartment building there in the 2,500 block of naylor road. there were people who were actually home at the time that this happened. a very, very scary situation and a close call. we spoke to a woman who was there. she didn't want her face shown but she describes what happened. >> they only recovered one bullet.

they were asleep and they thought they. [ inaudible ] >> fortunately, nobody was hurt in this. police are looking into another shooting that happened last night around the same time or shortly there after in the 4400 block of 12th street. shots were fired there. there is property damage in that situation as well. a number of cars parked on the they had their windows shot out and also bullets to the cars as well. not quite sure at this point whether there is any connection between these incidents. they're under investigation, but certainly a very scary situation last night unfolding around 10:00. back to you in the studio. >> thank you. a judge will sentence a man for raping woman in the hill east avenue of southeast. antoine pitt was on super viced

woman's home and raped her last year. a jury is recommending 60 years in jail and a life time supervised release should he be released after his sentence. the u.s. attorney for the district of columbia says pitt has to be incarcerated until he is no longer physically capable of raping another woman or harming another person. sentencing is at 10:30 this morning. developing now, a powerful 6.6 magnitude earthquake shook western tokyo. this happened just after 1:00 this morning our time. that quake caused a black out for nearly 40,000 people. no word just yet on a restoration. look at the mess, though, from the shaking there. no reports of any serious damage or injuries. no tsunami warning was issued. amtrak is back in service along the northeast corridor this morning. a train headed here to d.c. hit somebody on the tracks. this happened between new york and philadelphia last night.

now. we also don't know why they were on the tracks. >> in news 4 your health, october is national breast cancer awareness month. today it is national mammography day. the best defense is early detection. they only take ten to 15 minutes but could catch breast cancer up to three years before it can be felt. >> some of these things are almost microscopic. we're looking for small features that could suggest small, early breast cancer. if we can detective cancers when they're small, typically the treatments are less aggressive, less harmful. it saves lives. >> most experts agree most women should get an annual mammogram at the age of 40. if you're worried about the cost, the cdc offers free or low cost tests to those who qualify. a reminder to think twice

southern west virginia closer to the shenandoah valley and the metro area but not until later this afternoon. here is the hour by hour timing, leading edge of this in the color area moving into western maryland around 9:00, 10:00 this morning. coming into the shenandoah valley around noon time, light showers an crossing the blue ridge, picking up a little bit of moderate downpours coming into perhaps loudoun county, fredrick county, maryland, washington county into faulkner, this is going to be around 2:00 then as they get closer to the metro area, wet showers coming in. this is as of 4:00, northern virginia, the metro area, much of central maryland starting to move into central maryland. 4 to 5 to 6:00 p.m. it gets closer to the bay but lingering showers, 7, 8, 9:00 tonight. most of the rain pulls east of the bay after midnight tonight. then we have a general drying trend, the cloud cover begins to break up after midnight and the

i'm molette green at the live desk with breaking news out of afghanistan. just learning details about a fort hood soldier killed. we just learned that sergeant douglas jriney died after encountering hostile forces in kobul. the 26-year-old resident was a resident of fairview illinois. he had been assigned to the third calvary regimen and calvary fort hood. another soldier was found dead there in his home. it has been a tough week for the soldiers. >> thinking about their families now. thank you. 5:20 is our time. new information on the charges five teens are facing for allegedly spray painting graffiti that included racist messages. they're charged with vandalism but not a hate crime.

adding fuel to the fire, started at wednesday's debate and the republican nominee is facing back lash from critics for suggesting he might not accept the outcome of the election. edward lawrence is on capitol hill with the latest on the campaign now. we know this was an unprecedented comment or suggestion from donald trump. what is the reasoning behind it? >> donald trump believes that there is mass widespread voter fraud across the country. he points to the fact that there are several areas around vote in the election. many on capitol hill here are concerned because that goes to the very foundation that if this election is certified, will donald trump accept the peaceful transition of power, something our country is pretty much based on. >> edward, let's switch gears to the clinton campaign. she will be making her first appearance since the debate today. what is her strategy over the

and sending well liked surrogates into states traditionally republican. michelle obama yesterday was in phoenix, arizona, she is trying to turn phoenix to the democratic side which is something that hasn't happened in a very, very, very long time. so she is going forward trying to get some of the border line red states, arizona, utah, turn them into her column forcing donald trump to spend money he doesn't have in those states in order to keep his lead there. thanks. happening today, d.c.'s former police chief will be honored with a retirement party. cathy lanier retired after 26 years of service. d.c. leaders will celebrate her with a ceremony in northwest. lanier now oversees security for all 32 nfl teams and the super bowl. one issue lanier is addressing is domestic violence. the league has now reopened the investigation into new york giants kicker josh brown.

involving his ex-wife. at the time, the nfl says it did not have much information and suspended brown for one game. now brown's journal entries and e-mails have come to light. in those messages, investigators claim brown admits to physically and verbally abusing his ex-wife. brown did not travel to london for this weekend's game. happening today, friends and family will celebrate the life of josh hardy, the virginia boy who died after years of battling josh's family successfully fought a drug maker to get an experimental drug for him. he died last month. there is a super hero costume celebration for josh at the fredericksburg expo and conference center. everyone is invited but you have to wear a super hero costume in honor of josh. his funeral will be held at fredericksburg baptist church. >> navard sanderson is accused

inside his car. that is according to the fredrick news post. court documents say the attacks happened last month after sanderson dropped someone off. detectives say he picked up the girl on maryland route 26 and convinced her to have sex with him. he has been banned from uber. the writer of an tharl described a brutal gang rape at uva is saying she messed up at the defamation trial, the author of the piece admitted she made mistakes in her reporting. the story was eventually retracted it. uva administrator is suing the magazine for defamation and is asking for $8 million in the case. the prince william county school superintendent steven walsh has until january to come up with an administrative team. they would oversee the framework for or the development of the framework for a nondiscrimination policy.

i'm molette green at the live desk with new information just in about a shooting in washington, maryland that sent a man to the hospital. they tell us around 11:30 last night, officers found a man suffering from gunshot wounds in the 6100 block of brandy hall court. that is not barnabas road. check out some of the video we have in from the scene. the man is listed in critical condition. no suspect information just yet. we'll stay on top of this when we get new information, we'll bring it right to you on-air and of course inside our nbc washington app. back to you now. storm team4 radar showing showers moving into the mountains of west virginia, western pennsylvania, getting closer to the metro area. got new hour by hour timing

be reached. thousands of arlington county voters are not waiting until election day to vote. 43,000 are expected to vote absentee. that would shatter the 2008 record of 35,000 absentee voters. virginia residents who can't make it to the polls on election day can vote absentee in person through november 5th. mail in ballots must be received by election day by 5:00 p.m. early voting begins tomorrow at one northwest. d.c. residents can cast early votes at any location on election day you have to vote at your assigned spot. early voting begins in maryland next thursday. it has been years in the making the newest hospital in prince george's county is moving forward. the new hospital is being built at largo town center. county officials are preparing to celebrate and mark the next step. news4's darcy spencer is live with what we can expect. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, as

this is going to be a multi million dollar state of the art hospital right here in largo. a teaching hospital and it is all part of what the county executive is calling the new downtown largo. let's look at some of the rendering of this new facility. it is going to cost $543 million. it is going to be built on the site of the boulevard at the shopping center. this process, as you mentioned, has taken a few years in fact, the county had to scale back the project by $100 million in order to get this project approved. the county executive says that this hospital is going to be the anchor for new development here in largo. he is envisioning medical offices, office space, shopping centers, already we're seeing condos popping up all over this area and it is also right by the largo metro center.
