in southeast. look at the video here and you can see for yourself. right around 10:00 last night, someone began to fire out on the street in the 2500 block of naylor road. some of bullets went through the window there. you can see the shattered glass pierced the window and went into an apartment complex. some of the bullets lodged in the walls. people were home at the time including a family with a person, a woman with a couple of kids. fotu a very, very scary and dangerous situation and there was another shooting that happened about the same time around 10:00 last night as well. that happened in the 3400 block of 12th street in southeast washington. someone opened up -- opened fire on that block and a number of cars were shot up in that incident. at this point, investigators are trying to figure out what, if any connection there is between

bombing. nbc news learned the soldier was operating with iraqi forces but it is not clear if that soldier was involved in the offensive to recapture mosul from isis. a judge will sentence a man for raping a woman in the hill east neighborhood of southeast. supervised probation when he cutoff his bracelet and broke into a home and raped her last year. pitt must be incarcet capable of raping another woman or harming another person. a jury is recommending 60 years in jail and a life time supervised release should he be released after his sentence. another reminder to get your air bags checked. an 11th american has died because of a ruptured air bag. the california woman died last month after a crash. her civic had been recalled in 2008 but the air bag was never

information and suspended brown for one game. now brown's journal entries and e-mails have come to light. in those messages, investigators claim the 37-year-old admits to physically and verbally abusing his ex-wife. the giants and the league are reviewing his case. other players are reacting to this news on social media, ravens wide receiver steve smith had strong words saying if it was his daughter, brown would be in the injury list. he later apologized for being extreme but said a man who hits a woman, quote, isn't a real man. brown's teammate victor cruz said i never stood behind josh brown's actions and don't stand for domestic violence in the least bit. basically he will stay out of his teammate's personal lives. this month, we're focusing on domestic violence with our safe at home campaign. we visited leesburg where a teacher is proudly displaying her works of art on the walls of

fire lieutenant peter saint john was one of the first responders who got to the scene of a gas leak at a building on wednesday. a construction company says the subcontractor hit a gas pipeline during an excavation. john ran between nearby buildings pulling fire alarms to get people out. it was during that that the powerful gas explosion happened. he was thrown across the street and right into a chain link fence. an intense situation doing his job. >> i feel like i'm not a hero. i just did what everyone else would have done in that time. it is our job to go in and protect the citizens and that is what we're doing, making sure everyone is safe. >> got to love these guy that's think this way. >> they say everyone would have done this. i don't think they would. that is why we have the first

it is 6:14. amtrak is back in service along the northeast corridor. a train heading here? washington hit someone on the tracks. this happened between new york and philadelphia late last night. no one was hurt on the train. it is not clear, though, whether the person on the tracks is alive. we also don't know why they were there in the first place. if maryland and virginia don't pay up, metro could cut service. if state leaders don't approve more money. jack evans says service to the d.c. mayor muriel bowser agrees. she thinks they should fund sales tax to metro should be more aggressive. >> nobody wants to write metro a blank check. we're calling on them to tighten their belts. the transportation secretary wants to see major improvements to metro before talking about more money. ahead at 6:30, adam tuss breaks down how metro riders are

service cuts. more information on the charges five teens are facing for spray painting graffiti in ashburn. they are charged with vandalism but not a hate crime. it doesn't meet the legal requirements for a hate crime. the vandalism was discovered on october 1st. a few days later, the community came together to repaint the historic building. interim d.c. police chief peter overall since last year. he tried to reassure residents after a deadly stabbing. they addressed this after a class mate stabbed another on a metrobus. the stabbing was not random and neither is most crime in the district. >> i wanted to let folks know. people get nervous and think they could potentially be the

apparently soda companies are feg francisco area. >> bernie sanders is not happy about the ads going out to voters there saying he is against the soda tax measure on the november ballot. the senator says he is all for the measure adding that consuming too much sugar is a serious health problem. sanders opposed the soda tax in philadelphia calling it a regressive tax and thought it would hurt consumers. he says the bay area tax would be much lower.

it sounds like a med evac will be landing here in a minute and closing the northbound lanes temporarily while they try to help the motorcyclist. southbound gw parkway before the memorial bridge, over height truck blocking the right lane stuck here this morning. 66 inbound sending a chopper to this accident. northbound sudley, on the right lane. southbound can't turn on to 66 here this morning and northbound 210 between old fort and palmer crash blocking the left lane. 6:32 now. metro riders are voicing frustration this morning as new service cuts could soon become reality. the metro board hasn't decided yet whether to cut an additional eight hours per week of rail service in the name of safety. for ten hours at a public hearing, riders criticized metro's plans, the weekend would see the greatest impact. metro's general manager responded by saying he

federal prosecutors first charged harold martin in august. he stole documents from the nsa for 20 years. at today's hearing, he is expected to be asked to be released from jail as the case moves through court. he could face 11 years in prison if found guilty. happening today in prince george's county, the parents of a missing 3 month old baby boy are expected to appear in court charged in his murder. the father, 32-year-old antoine petty admitted to punching the infant in the torso from crying last month. the mother, 24-year-old janice petty says the father has a mental illness. police found the body last week near the parkdale high school property. it has been decades in the making. the newest hospital in prince george's county is moving forward. >> it is set to go up at the largo town center and today, county officials are preparing to celebrate and mark the next steps. news4 darcy spencer is live with what we can expect.

of the boulevard at the shopping center and it is going to be part of of what the county executive is calling downtown largo. it is a $543 million project that is going to replace the aging prince george's hospital center over near the largo metro station. it took the county a few years just to get the certificate of need. within the last few months, they had to scale back the poj $100 million. this is going to anchor new development in this area of prince george's county, along with the hospital, they're expecting new shopping, new housing to have medical offices and regular retail offices and have transit oriented development here in this area. they are expected to break ground sometime next year, we're looking at a roughly 2020 opening of the new hospital. there will be a press conference today at 12:30 here at the

shootings incidents where someone shot up the area. take a look at the map. you can see the different locations here. one happened on naylor road in southeast. the other location is 12th street in southeast washington. look at the video here, this was shot at the naylor road incident around 10:00 last night, someone opened fire out on the street in the 2500 block. some of those bullets, as you can see here, went through the window of an apartment building. people were home at the time. there was a children were present, some of those bullets lodged into walls inside, so a very scary situation. spoke to one woman who was home at the time. she didn't want her face shown on television but she describes what happened. >> they only recovered one bullet. >> was there anyone inside there? >> yes. her and her kids. which they were asleep and they thought they were fireworks. >> reporter: and in the other

southeast d.c. antoine pitt was on supervised probation when he cutoff his gps bracelet, broke into a woman's house and raped her last year. the attorney for the district of columbia says pitt must be incarcerated until he is no longer physically capable of raping another woman or harming another person. the jury recommended 60 years in jail and a life time supervised release if pitt gets out again. a maryland uber driver is in jail right now. nava 14-year-old girl in his car. that is according to the fredrick news post. the attack happened last month after sanderson dropped off someone. he picked up the girl on maryland route 26 and convinced her to have sex with them. he has been banned from uber. a new poll out minutes ago shows donald trump rebounding slightly among virginia voters but is still trailing hillary clinton by 12 points. 33 to her 45%.

learn later today. good morning, darcy. >> reporter: good morning. yeah, the county executive and other leaders will hold a press conference later this afternoon here at the boulevard at the cat center where the new hospital will be held. it is part of the new downtown largo. it is a $543 million hospital built as a teaching hospital. it is going to replace the prince george's hospital center and aging metro station. it took three years for the county to get the certificate of need needed in order to build the hospital. they are are expecting to break ground sometime next year with a plan to open around 2020. the press conference is schedule allied here for 12:30 this afternoon being built as a celebration and the expectation is to improve the quality of healthcare right here in prince george's county.

an 11th american has died because of a ruptured takata air bag. this is a good reminder to check your car for recalls. honda says the california woman's civic had been recalled in 2008 but was never fixed. she was killed by the air bag during a crash last month. more than 100 million others had the same issue. go to the nbc washington app. we have a link to see if faulty air bags could be in your car. it is coming up on 6:55 right now.
