greatly diminished here. we have a gorgeous, sparkling sun and a blue sky and the temperatures are rebounding after we've been hovering in the 40s, climbing into the 50s in the underground weather network. beginning to hit 50 degrees. temperatures by 10:00, mid-50s by 2:00, mid-60s. upper 60s by mid afternoon. bright sunshine through the day with light breelzs and cooler pattern on the way for the week ahead. a look at that this half hour. breaking news in prince george's county also to report, police investigating a deadly bike accident in bladensburg. a man was found in kenilworth avenue. he was hit by a car around 1:15 this morning and the driver did stay on the scene. the traffic was um pacted for hours as you look at the back-ups as crews continued their investigation.

charges. also, a firefighter hurt after battling this blaze as a northwest d.c. restaurant overnight. the blaze broke out at the cafe on park road. crews spending most of the morning putting out hot spots but it is now under control and the firefighter is expected to be okay. now to a developing story, a montgomery county man recovering after a bullet grazed his head last night. the 87-year-old was in his own backyard when it happened. police believe it could have been an hunter's gun. it is near public land. he was hit by a two millimeter projectile. he is expected to survive. officers have not been able to find the shooter. in decision 2016, donald trump and hillary clinton both on the campaign trail today. clinton holding two events in the battleground state of north carolina and is getting help from president obama who will campaign for her in las vegas.

florida. meanwhile, in a speech in gettysburg, pennsylvania, trump laid out a proposition for the first 100 days if president. he is also threatening to sue the women who accused him of inappropriate touching or kissing. >> it never happened. never. all of these liars will be sued after the election is over. >> as for hillary clinton, she made an appeal for voter at her event in pennsylvania. she said that she wants to be the president for all americans. we saw long lines at one judiciary square as early voting started in the district. all this week, qualified voters can go there to cast the early or absentee votes. some waited in line over an hour to cast their ballots. they say they're voting for change. >> we want the voices heard.

i think first of all, in having a zero tolerance policy. >> if you see someone being abused, find the mechanism to help the person out of the family and help them to have intervention. >> at the churches, victims and perpetrators get instruction. >> when you have the kind of economic types that we have, when you have the brutality that comes from all ends, lash out and as a result, the people who get hurt the most are those who love us the most. >> we teach anger resolution, how to resolve the anger as opposed to managing it and we teach people how to get along, and revolve conflicts with each other. >> the pastors also say increasing violence outside of the home, on streets around the country, between police and the community, illustrates the importance of strengthening the ties that bind them together.

and i know many other churches have been intentional about highlighting the relationship between the police officers, so that, you know, the the police can get to know whom they serve. >> we have to teach our children, our sons in particular, how to respond when they're pulled over by a police officer. we have to better train our police officers in how to deal with and communicate with our culture and our community. >> i think we can bridg between officers and the community, especially as it relates to our young adults. >> we are the ones doing the funerals. we're the ones ministering to the families and so it becomes encumbered upon us to help the community to bridge the gap. >> and the pastors say bridging the gap is more important than ever in this critical electioneer. >> what are your thoughts about the presidential race? and what are you telling your

more than 300 people participated in what they called a riot. the demonstrators trespassed on private property along the dakota access pipeline project right of way. law enforcement says they had to break bring out the pepper spray to calm the crowd. protests have been held for more than two months. the standing rock sioux said it would destroy some sacred sites. there with a bar fight at the greene turtle. it is being investigated as a hate based incident. a man poured water on two men and addressed them in a derogatory way. that is when they went into a parking lot and started fighting. they are expected to be okay.

truck was started. this was at the park shopping center. one photographer was in the area driving by when they saw the flames shooting out. they noticed the driver in time and was able to get out. firefighters were able to get out. a federal judge sanctioned the virginia attorney general's office. it is being fined more than $7,500 for giving incorrect information in a case. a law firm said it sent a lawyer they said was involved in an inmate assault case. the officer was not involved. maryland governor larry hogan says keeping marriott's headquarter as in the state adds up to millions for the state of maryland. according to wtop, maryland will get tax subsides totaling 44 and a half million. half from the state. the other half from montgomery county.

stop suicide. that is the goal of an event in downtown d.c. to raise awareness for suicide prevention. the out of the darkness community walk was able to surpass the goal by raising nearly $270,000 yesterday. it wrapped up at the washington monument. walkers wore colored beads for loved ones lost or those struggling with depression. doreen gentzler emceed the

at 9:45 this morning, a personal tragedy rocked the life of an alexandria police officer but it also motivated him to help his community more. the officer is now being honored for his efforts. >> here on the alexandria streets where he has been patrolling for 20 years, his name is officer benny. he checks in on homeless residents, bringing them clothes. >> they're the forgotten souls. they're so helpful. >> reporter: sharon adams runs a homeless shelter. >> we don't look at him as an officer. we look at him as our friend. >> reporter: officer benny evans started focusing on the homeless

officers got out, started identifying people trying to build the relationship. >> reporter: those relationships led evans to learn more about mental illness. >> some of these folks don't belong in jail. they're mentally ill. they don't belong in jail. >> reporter: evans helps to train other officers in crisis intervention. >> he is teaching the nexgen ration of police officers what it means to serve the community. >> reporter: three years ago, officer evans life changed when his 15-year-old son committed i >> after my son's suicide, it took this whole homeless thing and mental illness thing to a whole other level. this is it. >> reporter: a lot of the homeless people went to the memorial service. >> they went to the funeral and they showed up to support officer benny. so that just, i mean it melted my heart to know that we really do care about this guy and he cares about us. >> reporter: and that is when officer evan's found out his son had also been helping the homeless, giving them shoes and socks, but he never told anyone, not even his father.
