where a work place shooting has left two people dead. just after 6:00 a.m. someone called 911 to report an active shooter inside a freight car america in roanoke. police say the shooter was a current or former employee. his identity has not been released. police say the shooter killed himself and one other person. there's one witness who managed to hide inside a bathroom when the shooting started. three people were hurt. we're working to find out the extent of their injuries. we are following a developing story out of searching for a man who murdered someone in their home on muncaster road. we expect to get an update soon and learn the victim's identity. first news 4's molette green spoke with neighbors about what they heard last night. >> reporter: this is where it happened right off busy muncaster mill road in this house behind me. that's where police say the man

the house is an easy getaway for a shooter. right behind it where the man died on the deck of the house is just a wooded area with more homes and it's difficult to navigate if you do not know this neighborhood very well. >> just two quick gunshots. pretty obvious gunshots. then a lot of commotion. we called 911. >> reporter: montgomery county police tell us this happened just before 10:00 last night

parties twice a year. >> reporter: we knocked on the front door, but the person inside the home did not open it and wanted us to leave. in gaithersburg, molette green, news 4. all lanes of the icc are open after lumber spilled onto the road. it fell out of a trator trail they're overturned near the shady grove exit last night around 9:00. it took about 11 hours to get it all cleaned up and moved to the side of the road so that all the lanes could be okay. nearly 100 families are going to have to leave their condos or face eviction. that's because lynnhill condos received word that the power will be shut off to the community in the temple hills today. they owe nearly $1.2 million in unpaid utilities to pepco and washington gas. the problem has been going on for years.

county says it will provide social services for residents who need it. good morning. i'm storm team 4 meteorologist chuck bell. had a little frost on some of the pumpkins in the shenandoah valley early this morning and a chance for even colder weather tomorrow morning. right now full sunshine and a nice warm-up. we made it into the mid and upper 50s across the area you now. not going to see too much more of a climb in temperature, northwesterly wind averaging 15 to 20 or two degrees from now. so quite breezy, sunny and on the cool side but tonight the wind will lay down. a freeze watch issued for northern manhattan, the panhandle of west virginia and much of the shenandoah valley early tomorrow morning. could be 30-35 degrees. you may want to cover up outdoor

a theme park was shut down after four people died on a ride. this was not a thrill ride either. something went very, very wrong on the river rapids ride at the dream world park in queensland, australia. it flipped over. two people were ejected from their seats. two others were killed, trapped inside the ride. the park sent everyone home after that. some people said all they could think about was their children. >> they would be fine with it. >> the ride is open for children as young as 2 years old. police say the victims were two men and two women all in their 30s and 40s.

inflators. authorities say the air bags have inflators made by takata. they have a high risk of rupturing. one death reported last week. 69 million inflators have been recalled. remember the case of a gyrocopter that landed on the grounds last year? a spokesman for capital say officials will destroy the aircraft in the next several weeks. the pilot, douglas hughes, pled guilty to operating it without a license and he was sentenced to four months in prison. he finished his sentence earlier this month. subway is headed to court because of its former spokesperson. gabe gutierrez explains why jared fogle's ex-wife is suing the company. >> reporter: this morning subway is facing a lawsuit from the

door on july 7, 2015, i thought it was the worst day of my life. >> reporter: last year fogle pled guilty to charges of child pornography and sex with minors. >> i have a 3-year-old and a 5-year-old who now ask me every day about jail and where their father is. >> reporter: the lawsuit filed in indiana claimed subway exploited fogle's family despite knowing of allegation >> the defendants even marketed him as a family man and used katie's likeness and her children's likenesses without consent. >> i lost 245 pounds. >> reporter: fogle skyrocketed to fame as the face of subway's healthy eating campaign which included visits to schools. but a former journalist who was mentioned in the lawsuit told her about his sexual encounters with minors. >> gender didn't make a

subway knew about at least three allegations of misconduct, one as early as 2004, but turned a blind eye because he was the company's cash cow. subway severed ties with fogle last year shortly after the fbi raided his home saying fogle's actions were inexcusable and did not represent its brand. a spokesperson now tells nbc news as this is pending legal action, we comment. >> it's unlikely that a court is going to give the ex-wife money simply because subway didn't contact her earlier. >> reporter: the suit is asking for unspcified damages. >> finding out that your husband and the father of your children is a child predator and knowing that his job involves him visiting schools on a regular basis is devastating. >> reporter: she also says she never would have married fogle if subway would have reported him.

in the murder trial of a former campus police officer. he was working at the university of cincinnati when he shot and killed sam dubose last summer during a traffic stop. a body camera recorded their encounter. he claims he felt threatened when you shot dubose in the head. he's now charged with murder and -- rather, involuntary manslaughter. we're hearfr a taped deposition jackie said she stands by the account she gave "rolling stone" because, quote, i believed it to be true at the time. she said she had trouble remembering details about the assault because she suffers from posttraumatic stress disorder. a uva administrator is suing the magazine for its portrayal of her in the article. in the final runup to election day, security has been a hot topic on the campaign

targeted e-mails, but how safe are the official sites with your candidates. a security expert tells scott macfarlane it depends on where you're logging on. >> reporter: planning speeches to the base, most of that is electronic. >> so, once again, go to hillaryclinton.com. >> reporter: cand their positions online. >> i have a very powerful plan that's on my website. >> reporter: making campaign websites a targets for hackers as we've seen with the democratic national committee. how easy is it for someone to take control? >> the trouble with most of these templates they do it not take into account any security so they get the site up and then they stop. >> reporter: jonathan should know. he's a white hatter, a cyber expert working to improve security. he has examined and graded current presidential sites and

contacted them. he showed us a potential phishing risk on hillaryclinton.com. >> i am going to create an event. >> reporter: anyone who signs up with an account -- >> we have a house party for hillary. >> reporter: can send out invites from the site, even hackers who might want to include harmful links. we reached out to the clinton campaign but didn't hear back. when we asked him to look at sites for other big races in the d.c. area. based on whether they had updated security features and how easily user names were accessible it to would-be hackers. >> if they find the user names they can get into the site, change any of the content and potentially can upload malware onto the site. >> reporter: two campaigns earned as. >> your supporters need to be

we know you take that seriously and one of the first things was make sure the company we hired prioritized security. >> reporter: and the democratic candidate lou ann bennett. >> gave the republican couple bant trying to unseat a "b." each had some basic prtections but he was still able to get a list of user name making it took you eight seconds to find the name of the administrator and the users. two got his lowest grade, a "d." does that mean you think it's likely somebody could sabotage that site? >> absolutely. >> reporter: including chris van hollen. he found tenuouser names and logins and vulnerabilities.

that's bad. there have been more serious cases where people have used legitimate websites as a back channel to traffic in illegal files. >> reporter: the same risk for john delaney. a spokesman for congressman delaney told the i-team he takes cyber security seriously and is always open to ways to improve. we update our security features regularly and do not store any personal or financial information on the campaign website. van hollen's campaign told the including the security feature. scott macfarlane. >> there are free and inexpensive plug-ins to secure. click on investigations. today is your last day to take your pet on a walk through arlington national cemetery. beginning tomorrow pets will be banned from the grounds. cemetery officials say

funerals. approved service animals or military working dogs are still allowed. the announcement comes a week after the cemetery announced cyclists will no longer be able to ride through the cemetery unless they are visiting the grave sites of relatives. new guidelines out today from the catholic church about cremating a loved one. the vatican says remains cannot be scattered, divvied up, or kept at home. the ashes should be stored in a sacred church approved place. under these new rules only in extraordinary cases allow ashes to be kept at home. the world series starts tonight. after the break, the fans most desperate for a championship this year. >> and expect temperatures to be about ten degrees cooler than yesterday along with cool weather, rain is in the forecast.

driving on dark roads. the study found most pickup trucks need major adjustment to their headlights. >> reporter: looking to shine a light on what it considers a serious safety hazard, the insurance institute for highway safety released new ratings and the results are not good. most of the pickups including the ford f-150, the most popular vehicle in the rating. >> reporter: out of 11 small and pickup trucks rested, the honda ridge line earned a good rating and that's only on the vehicles with the most expensive trim levels. all four of the small trucks were rated poor. so were three, two marginal and one acceptable. >> almost half of traffic

feel so passionate about speaking out because the warning signs are there when you have a person who has a controlling, jealous nature and shows these type of signs. >> you saw warning signs but the violence started long after the emotional abuse, is that right? >> yes. and i think that -- i've met other women who have found themselves in relationships that are abusive and a lot of people think this is something that happens toea have resources and i'm here to tell you that is not the case. a lot of women feel they can handle it, can manage it and it doesn't make a lot of sense to them. once you introduce children into the picture, children can never figure out the road map of how to avoid the abusive person's anger and even if that night

of the volence didn't happen, it was still a nightmare to try to navigate. >> your husband was a well-known, high-powered washington lawyer, former deputy white house counsel under george w. bush, but did anybody suspect he could have this type of anger that would come out in the way that it did? >> it's interesting. my daughter calls it after the bad thing happened people did come to me and say that people who had worked with him in government who said that they had never been so fearful of someone and when there was a conflict or disagreement at work and that he had an anger that really stood apart in a very kind of frightening way from others. >> tell us about your journey back, you're getting out, your

wholeness. >> so the -- unlike most women who suffer from domestic violence. it turns out the attack was so horrific that he was arrested, charged with and and vikted of my attempted murder and is serving in connecticut. most women, it's like i threaded the eye of the needle. it was so bad that never had to see him again except i did in ur >> i was left for dead, unconscious in a pool of blood after about a 30-minute attack. and i had tried to set off the house alarm but when i did that, he attacked me again. i lost consciousness. when i came to, there was no sound to the alarm and i thought they've probably called, the alarm company probably called and he gave them the code word to say, no, everything is fine. so i thought to myself i'm about

he used a long maglite flashlight to beat me. >> your children -- >> what i did, i thought to myself i have to get the kids out of the house before i die. i had left the keys in the car after i servinged him the papers thinking he might be ra to happen. i got my children and quietly ran to the car, and i drove until i got away from the house and i pulled into -- i started to lose consciousness and pulled into a neighbor's house that i didn't know them. >> what do you want to say to other women who may be experiencing this or headed towards this? >> a lot of people think those

i kind of like this weather we're having, very fall like. >> very fall like and a hint of early winterlike by the time we get into tomorrow morning talking about the chance of some of the first freezes of the season. i had a long drive yesterday. fall colors running about seven to ten days behind average and part of that is because we've had hardly anything in the way of cold weather. october is more than 4 degrees rm i mentioned the wind. that is a real issue. it's 58 degrees now but look at the wind. northwest averaging 28 miles an hour. it's hustling out there today. you'll notice it for sure. all the sunshine and the breeze out there today. if you thought it was cold this morning, wait until tomorrow morning.

nearly calm wind by the time you wake up tomorrow morning. it's a recipe for plummeting temperatures so by tomorrow morning i think a lot of spots west of i-95 are going to be down close to the freezing mark already have freeze warnings in northern maryland and the shenandoah valley. i fully expect that loudoun and montgomery counties will be added into some sort of a frost advisory or freeze watch so just know that's likely to expand. that tonight at 5:00, 6:00, and 11:00 to given you the latest. your ten-day forecast, only about 60 today and in the 50s tomorrow. the weekend is looking dry. i'll give you a check of that forecast for the big race sunday. back to you. thank you, chuck. that closure on beach drive and

it's over. adam tuss got an update for us and shares that with us now. >> reporter: i can tell you the good news about the beach drive project everything seems to be on schedule up to this point. another five to seven months of the work here. the work is pretty intense. you have trenches down to help with the drainage. all the watt they're would collect and then tear up the road. look at how much of the substructure is being taken down, milled and then repaved. a couple of things they didn't it expect to see wires and cables, they didn't pertain to anything and there was one other big surprise that they found
