the prince georges hospital center has been shut down again after two infants tested positive for a potentially deadly bacteria. this is the same nicu closed for two months not long ago. prince georges medical center hospital spokesman saying at this time there is no environmental indication or defined cause for the latest bacteria presence. out of an abundance of caution pghc made the decision to temporarily close the nicu. a grandmother said this. >> the nicu they shouldn't have re-opened it the first time. >> reporter: we asked officials here at the hospital to speak on camera about what's happening here. they say they are not prepared to release any on camera statements today. we could hear from them tomorrow. back to you all in the studio. >> thank you. four things to know about the bacteria pseudomonas. it is found in soil, plants and

their homes. >> they lost everything when the explosion happened. they left barefoot with nothing. >> reporter: sophia and her children live in fear that it could happen again. >> they are always anxious. they can't sleep well. >> reporter: the lawsuits blame washington gas and cane management for negligence. when residents reported smelling gas weeks before the explosion. one lawsuit is for wrongful death to compensate the families seriously injured. the other lawsuit is for those who lost their homes and now live with traumatic stress. >> they lost their belongings. more is the impact, the impression it caused on them, what they went through. >> we requested and received comments from washington gas and the management group. they basically say because they are working with the ntsb on the

many of you might be surprised at the voters in one particular location. >> reporter: most jails in the united states don't go to these lengths but at the d.c. jail voting is nothing new. >> we have done it for the last three, four election cycles. we are only one of three jurisdictions that offers voting to inmates. >> reporter: these inmates who voted earlier today took the time to show news 4 how they of a nonpartisan poll observer. >> it's fair that we can be part of the community to voice our constitution and that our vote still counts. >> reporter: both men agreed it was important for them to vote for several reasons. >> it's important for all the black people, the young black people to vote. the majority don't vote.

new information about the breaking news. 30 students were taken to the hospital to be checked out after a pepper spray incident on a bus at watkins mill elementary school in montgomery village here. montgomery county fire and ems say all the kids are expected to be okay. the transports were just precaution their. more than 50 students were on the bus at no word on how this began. we'll follow the story on the app. >> maryland schools are running low on male teachers. the problem is detailed in a memo obtained by news 4. the extent of the shortage may surprise you. scott? >> reporter: good evening, wendy. the number of students in the

if you're just tuning in this is a look at what you missed. >> i'm mark seagraves outside the d.c. jail where more than 60 inmates were allowed to vote. d.c. is one of the few jurisdictions in the country that facilitates early voting inside correctional facilities for inmates. not only do they do that, but every time an inmate is admitted to the d.c. jail, they are allowed to register to vote.

it was the number 10 bus, a popular line. the investigation focuses on the 67-year-old driver of the school bus, among those who died. police say it will take weeks. a key witness is on the bus and not seriously injured. what seems obvious, the rate of speed. >> safe to say the vehicle was going a if you saw the destruction it wasn't caused by a slow moving vehicle. the work will look at broader safety issues. the mayor welcomes the work. >> the way the bus was crushed, it just looked like it was blown to bits like matchsticks.

positive comes from this enormous tragedy. >> reporter: better protection for bus passengers is already on the ntsb list of most wanted safety improvements. >> american businesses are doing a better job hiring veterans. but need to do more to help them make the transition to civilian employment. that's a study from the chamber of commerce on hiring our heroes. they found americ three priority. 70% provide special assistance to vets during on boarding but just 20% have training to help civilians late to the vet. they found that can translate to higher job turnover, full disclosure, nbc universal is a partner of the hiring for heroes initiative. nbc 4 responds to a tax

woman contacted the consumer response team to find out what was taking the government so long. >> that's right. nearly three years after she filed her taxes, her refund still never came. you won't believe what the irs initially told her was the reason for the delay. fed up, waiting for the feds to respond she turned to nbc 4 responds for results. >> the money was something i really needed. >> emma never received her 2014 taxfu about 3,000 dollars. >> i called the irs. i started asking questions. >> reporter: new to virginia she made sure to hire a certified public accountant and filed her return electronically. she never received her refund. she called the irs multiple times. >> you call and call and it's for hours, no end. the phone keeps holding you with music. i didn't get anyone to help me

compromised. >> reporter: thinking she was a victim of identity theft emma immediately closed her credit cards, bank account and went back to her maiden name. more time passed and still nothing from the irs. emma sent them a letter asking what to do next. >> no response. responded to me saying i needed further proof of my income. >> reporter: now emma was confused. she thought this was an issue of return. >> reporter: no mention that her identity was compromised. >> never again. i have four or five letters from them. each was different. >> reporter: the final letter stated she never filed her 2014 taxes. >> i'm frantic now. >> i gave up. i was watching the news and i saw the great report.
