virginia gateway shopping center in gainesville. police came out yesterday around 5:30 p.m. when you would imagine there would be a lot of people here. they found this woman, she had been shot, she was flown to the hospital and later died. now police say this does not appear to be random. do believe the shooter knew the woman who was killed. in gainesville, kristen wright, news4. there's a search for whoever shot two university of maryland >> campus police say there were two separate incidents. the first one happened at 7:30 last night near the biomolecular science building. an hour later, police say another student was hit near ellicott hall. police say the suspect may have been in a dark-colored vehicle. this morning, eric holder is calling her a great american. loretta lynch says she was an inspiration. we're talking about janet reno, the first woman u.s. attorney

under president bill clinton from 1993 until 2001. while she was in office, she revealed she had parkinson's disease. reno was known for some controversial decisionses, including a deadly raid on a waco, texas compound and the decision to send elian gonzales back to cuba. this morning attorney general loretta lynch said reno was one of the most effective, decisive and well-respected leaders in the the job in time for election day. their union announced an agreement with septa. thousands of transportation workers were on strike last week. their new deal includes pension improvements, health care and pay increases. some state leaders thought the lack of transit option was impact voter turnout tomorrow. but full service should in place by then. decision 2016. we talked a lot about the large

show many of those voters especially in battleground states, are hispanic. one group that can be credited with getting people to the polls is voto latino and maria urbana from voto latino joins us with more. >> i understand that voto latino does not take a side. whoever you want to vote for, we're going to get you there. >> we're a nonpartisan civic engagement organization, we largely focusn but we also have programs that involve the entire family and community. >> what's your goal? >> to make sure that young latino who is are natural leaders in their home. because they're translating for their parents, helping their siblings get into college, that they transform that leadership into civic life. become voters, run for office and that they become participants at the level that our numbers show. >> why do you think it's so important in our area to get latinos to the polls tomorrow? >> what's so great about this area is that this area is

early vote in the places that have it as well as in person, absentee. that's a great signifier that latinos and others in the community are paying attention and are prime to go out and vote on tuesday. so this community is now starting to participate at the numbers that really demonstrate its force. >> so what do you think is the problem with getting the vote out in the latino community? why aren't they going to the polls? >> this misconception is that latinos don't turn out. when in fact they do turn they're registered. in 2012, 80% of latinos who were registered. so the key is to register latinos to vote. because once registered, they'll turn out. >> tell me about my ride. what are you going to did? >> it's a program that offers you a free lift or uber ride to new youers. and can you text 73179 -- you've got it in your head.

republican incumbent barbara comstock comstock. bennett went after her opponent by aligning him with donald trump. >> they both oppose comprehensive immigration reform. if you don't like donald trump's agenda, you won't like barbara comstock's agenda. >> the 10th congressional district covers all of the loudoun county fairfax county and prince william counties. barbara come stak had not endorsed the republican nominee for president and had responded to bennett speech by saying while our opponent was having a press conference with a partisan democrat from maryland. we have been meeting with a diverse group of voters from all over the district. another big race to watch this election day is the face-off for the maryland u.s. senate seat held by democrat barbara mikulski since 1987. congressman chris van hollen is hoping to keep the blue seat as

headquarters in largo yesterday. his republican opponent, kathy szeliga, has a big day ahead of her. she'll kick off the morning in baltimore before appearances in anne arundel county later today. democrats are hoping they'll be able to take back the senate this year. but it's going to require quite a few victories in order to do that. nbc's kelly o'donnell has more on the races that you should pay close attention to. >> the new hampshire heart-pounder. >> i'm going to continue to figt. republican senator kelly ayotte, against current governor democrat maggie hassan. the north carolina head shaker, a tougher than expected battle between republican richard burr, chairman of the senate intelligence committee and former state lawmaker deborah roth. and pennsylvania democrats hope hillary clinton can carry katie mcginty to victory. but republican incumbent pat toomey has been polling ahead of trump and keeping it close.

decision 2016 means more than the presidential race. voters will be casting ballots for the senate and the house, and in many places, on marijuana. nbc's gady sha schwartz shows us what the results of that vote could be. >> venice, california, a doctor will prescribe you a medical marijuana card for $40. but people on the boardwalk tell you that pot is so easy to get, prescription. on the ballot in five states, whether to legalize, for most states, that means six plants for personal use and allows people over 21 to buy up to an ounce. >> this is what an ounce looks like. >> this is an ounce, 28 grams. while in maine, voters will be asked to legalize up to two and a half ounces. nationwide polls are showing support for pot is at an all-time high. this election cycle, 57% of

rocked oklahoma. the 5.0-magnitude quake appears to have hit the town of curbing the hardest. oklahoma city officials say that 40 to 50 buildings sustained substantial damage. a few minor injuries were reported as well. the quake was felt as far away as iowa, illinois and texas. i got the alert that we were district. and yeah, frost. i ran outside and brought all my plants in the house at 11:30. >> the temperature dropped pretty quickly. >> it was a gorgeous day. >> not here in the district, right outside the district is where the temperatures really dropped. some places in the upper 20s today. >> it's too soon. >> too soon. >> it was chilly this morning and we had some freeze warnings and frost advisories out there.

we continue into tonight and tomorrow morning. beautiful-looking day. my goodness, it is a little chilly. a little breeze as well. but temperatures not too bad out there. i mean we're rising through the 50s. 54 the temperature right now in d.c. 52 in richmond. you can see pretty much through the mid-atlantic the temperatures warming up a little bit so again, 54, nothing we can't deal with. but eun was right, we did hit upper 60s to lower 70s over the weekend. not today. 12 hours, it's going to be gorgeous. as we get into the afternoon. now the sun going down at 5:01, i know, that's thanks to daylight saving time that ended yesterday morning. getting chilly once the sun goes down, clear skies, the temperatures going to plummet and we're going to end up again in the 30s, maybe low 40s during the overnight. high pressure in charge is keeping the clouds out. kind of parked over maine right now. so throughout the mid-atlantic, looking good.

and so i lived with folks there. and i lived in this tiny town of 500 people and learned how to cook with some folks there. yeah. >> and apparently you used some unique flavor. biscuits, lemon grass, not typical for dessert. >> sometimes i like to see what's available seasonably. so we have like one of them is we have a small version and a larger version of a goatcheese and a red wine fruit come i think that's sort of a nice seasonal flavor for the fall. lots of winter spices. reminds me of mulled wine. we take seasonally. we have some thanksgiving tarts that are cranberry, orange and a cheesecake. and a lot of travels, we travel a lot. so i always pick up flavors and flavor ideas on the way. >> i like this one over here on the left. i thought maybe it was a fruit. but that's smoked salmon.
