the police in south carolina are searching the property of a convicted sex offender. they believe that he's a serial killer. his name is todd kohlhepp. his accused of kidnapping a woman and holding her in a storage container for more than two months. police rescued her last week. they have recovered the body of her boy friend and another body that th identified. and police say there may be more bodies buried on that property. kohlhepp has also admitted to killing four people inside a motorcycle shop back in 2003, that's according to investigators. also, he spent 14 years in prison for sexually assaulting a neighbor when he was 15 years old. a young mother is dead tonight. she was supposed to be in court today for a child custody

gainesville, virginia, yesterday. news4 darcy spencer spoke to them today. we are awaiting late breaking details from the prince william police department. as soon as we get that update, we'll bring it to you. this young mother looked here at the bubbles hair to perhaps the last customer to see her alive. >> you never know when your life is going to be taken away. i can't believe this happened. >> reporter: bethany jarrett said she was of the last customer at the bubbles hair salon, 30 minutes later, a stylist, lynn pham was murdered heading to her car. >> i was here yesterday, i got my hair cut at the end of the last day, i was the last client,

every day. >> reporter: family and friends of lynn gathered yesterday where she was shot and killed sunday afternoon. her mom wants the killer brought to justice. >> find out who killed her because she doesn't deserve that. >> reporter: her mom said she was due in court along with the father of their 6-year-old daughter. >> this morning, they were supposed to go to court for custody. and she gets shot. >> reporter salon where she was assistant manager for the last five years. it was in gainesville she was shot in the parking lot. the shop manager. >> she was a mom. a beautiful mom. a beautiful daughter. just a beautiful spirit. >> reporter: that spirit on display last year when co-workers say pham shaved her head in support of a customer who was going through cancer treatments. there's a wreath on the salon

station. the shop is closed so co-workers can mourn. >> she's been here for like three years, she was a very good person. dedicated mother. >> reporter: prince william county police tell me they will be updating this investigation very shortly. we will post that on social media. they say that this crime was not random. jim, back to you. protesters want police to know they have not moved on. and tonight, their police-involved shooting. a d.c. police officer shot and killed a man named terrence sterling nearly two months ago. the officer says sterling intentionally ran his motorcycle into a police cruiser. police say that crash was intentional. witnesses, however, say the crash couldn't be avoided. a demonstration tonight begins at 7:00 at the corner of 3rd northwest. the search is on in montgomery county for a man

of the media. from all over the world and country. let's check in where the candidate was earlier today. what a busy day she's had so far. it's only halfway done. she started out in huge crowds in pittsburgh. this is michigan after that trip. she will be back in pennsylvania shortly within about two hours with the obamas, her husband and daughter too. for a big finale. she's not done after that. she goes down to carolina, at midnight tonight. back live at the javit center, this hall can hold about 5,000 people. we've been comparing the rallies that trump has had. trump's rallies have been huge all over the country. tomorrow night, we're hearing that could be scaled back. this is supposed to be the bigger party by far. they hope it is a victory party. doreen, back to you. >> jim handly, thank you. chris lawrence is covering the trump campaign.

we talked to some of the supporters who say they are fully on board with donald trump. they think he has a good chance to win. not here in new york, of course. but they think he can turn some of those sweet states and eke out a win over hillary clinton. and we asked them what really attracted you to trump's campaign and why is it so important for you that he win tomorrow. >> health care is horrible. my brother just went on the website to was horrendous. >> reporter: do you think donald trump will accept the results if in fact he does lose the election? >> if he loses in an honest way, then we will have to accept it. if he loses because it's rigged, then i can probably say and i won't speak for him, but i honestly will not accept it. >> reporter: okay, what's honest? what's rigged? that's something a lot of donald trump supporters will have to be deciding for themselves. it's one of the reasons hillary

and win by a big margin. trump has a busy schedule as well. he's going to be in new hampshire around 8:00. he's going to be in michigan to end his campaign at 11:00 tonight. that shows the challenge. he not only has to win some of these swing states. he's got to turn some of these deep blue states red to have a victory tomorrow. we're going to be back here in new york. back to trump tower. we'll bring you updated reports on trump as noted needs to take all of the battleground states on the map in order to win. nbc news released a final map today. it shows hillary clinton starting with enough electoral votes to win presidency. but donald trump still has a narrow path to victory. and early voting could make or break either candidate. meagan fitzgerald with a look now at the early voting numbers

this election for both parties. in the primaries, we saw republican voters outperform democratic voters. here's a snapshot of where we are as it relates to returned absentee ballots. the key battleground state of virginia. take a look. you can see 538,000 people returned absentee ballots. almost 448,000 there. virginia, you have until tomorrow at 7:00 p.m., to return your absentee ballot. switching gears now, let's go to maryland. folks there can vote early. here's what we're seeing a total of 869,000. 860,000 people voted early there. breaking that down from democrats and republicans. democrats, 26%. republican turnout, 19%. compare that total number to

mind, while there is a big difference between what we saw today in 2016 and 2012, superstorm sandy did affect the total number. all right. let's head now to the district for early voting. numbers coming in, 101,000 voters so far. so that puts us at 21% for this year. looking at 2012, you can see a big difference. 21% to 12% here. so, this obviously tells us that a lot more people are turning out to vote s we're looking at 43 million people who have voted before election day. back to you. >> meaghan fitzgerald. swing voters can play a critical role in deciding the outcome of this presidential election, but this year, swing voters are not like the others. nbc news political director chuck todd offers his analysis. >> with one more day to go in the presidential election, the

$2 billion roughly. >> reporter: vdot says once construction does start next year, we're looking at four years worth of intense work and some private properties along the corridor will be lost. >> there are some total picks associated with the project. we did minimize that to 11 what we showed in the plans last year. >> reporter: the concept is the same as another express lane correspond car you can use them for free. if not, you have to pay a toll. that's a polarizing issue. >> if we have to do it. >> we shouldn't have to pay to get through it. >> reporter: transit improvement is also being planned along the corridor as part of the project. back here, taking a look at 66. now, the other part of this project that's interesting, the state is contracting with a private company which is going to build, operate and maintain

taxpayers. but guess what they get to keep the tolls on this facility for the next 50 years. back to you. we're following breaking news in prince william county right now. a man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a young mother. police say brian jute shot and killed lynn pham as she was leaving work yesterday at the bubbles salon in gainesville. he is 33 y he lives in ashburn. police say he is the father of the victim's 6-year-old daughter. he was arrested this morning in court when he showed up for a preschedule hearing. the couple was supposed to appear in court today for a child custody hearing. doug is back with more about the weather. and it's always an adjustment when it starts to get dark so early. >> it's not fun. >> it's not fun. people get up earlier, yeah, we get the sunshine earlier.
