answers. tonight protesters are moving too slowly. nearly two months ago a dc officer shot and killed sterling. the officer said sterling intentionally crashed his motorcycle into a police cruiser. some witnesses say it was an accident. dc police are still investigating. tonight a jury awarded $3 million to a former university of virginia dean in the defamation lawsuit against nicole aramo sued over the portrayal of her in a 2014 story about a alleged gaining rape. police found no evidence to back up the accuser's claims and the article was retracted. there is some concern about safety at the university of maryland's college bar campus tonight. several students there have reported getting shot with beebe pelts. our jackie bensen is in college park with the latest on that.

at least three university of maryland students, one on a bicycle, the other two were walking, were hit by what police believe to be beebe pelts. >> actually, i was here last night and i saw the police cars and people were driving away but i didn't know what was going on. >> reporter: police say two students a man and a woman were struck near the ken engineering building around 7:30 sunday night. another studentep later between stadium drive garage and a hall. university ever maryland police say someone reported seeing a suspicious car in the area at the time. >> we have a description of a dark color two door or four door vehicle. that's all we have for now. >> reporter: police say they are reviewing security camera images from last night. students we spoke to say they learned of the incident through a campus wide alert.

six offices refused to answer our questions. 16 others didn't respond despite our repeated requests. >> we believe in a democracy that you need all points of view. and that's what diversity is about. >> reporter: democratic maryland congressman hoyer's office is among the seven offices that responded. hoyer told us he is proud of the work his office has done. >> we have caucus in our history but we are still not necessarily representative of the american fix. >> reporter: brad fitch runs the congressional management foundation which helps congress improve its operation and says money is a big part of the issue. >> congress cuts its own budget in essence shooting it self in the foot. it's difficult for them to create a pipeline of diverse applicants if it has no resources to do it.
