hometown of chappaqua, new york, back to you. there were several key moments leading up to today's presidential election. hillary clinton was the first eventual nominee to declare a run fort presidency on april 12th, 2015. donald trump declared two months later on june 16th. that is when he made the controversial comments about mexican immigrants being criminals and rapists. two months later, the fbi seized hillary clinton's private e-mails she sent while secretary of state. fast forward to 2016. that is when trump and clinton won the majority of the lecs foreshadowing the final race to the white house. five minutes after the hour, the race for the white house could come down to the battleground states including virginia. julie carey has the last interview with vice presidential

manhattan. sarah, what does the republican nominee's schedule look like today? >> reporter: well, aaron, we're assuming that donald trump is resting up. we do know that he is in new york tweeting this morning from the michigan airport saying we will win michigan but also talking about his plans to be back here in new york today. outside of trump towers right now there, is a barricade that police officers have put up here to keep the media and also a heightened sense of security here with dump trucks lining the street to stop everyone from parking outside of trump towers. donald trump ended his final campaign stop. it was in michigan. michigan is a critical state because voters there have picked the presidential -- have picked a democratic presidential candidate for the last six elections. trump and his camp are holding

gathering but we begin with news4's jim hanley at the convention center where clinton supporters are hoping to celebrate a victory. >> i'm jim hanley at the javtz center where hillary clinton hopes to make history 12 hours from now when her supporters and volunteers start to trickle in here and fill this hall and numbers start to come in, too. she hopes that this will be a big victory party. this hall holds about 5,000 people. they have done countless run throughs with stand in candidates. there are supposed to be big name act alleges outside on a separate stage. music, live concert performances, the original plan was to have fireworks above this ceiling. there was talk that the coast guard may have had a problem with that. now we don't know whether we'll see fireworks later tonight or not. we're expecting about 5,000 people here.

walking to the votes undecided about how they'll vote. what is on the table for those undecided voters today? >> they will have to decide for themselves what matters most. whether they believe in the change that donald trump is selling or the competence that hillary clinton is selling. it is different for every voter and by the way, to get to that point and not know exactly what you're going do is still a bit of a surprise for some people. >> and presumably we'll know who will be the president time. do you see or foresee any potential problems that may cause a delay in the outcome? >> we heard throughout the campaign in recent weeks about potential for hacking and some of those kinds of things and then there is also just a general competence or lack there of regarding electoral administration in the states. not every state is resourced in the same way or as good at counting the votes as others. there can always be something like that.
