here. he just tweeted that's where he's going to be watching the election results come in. he said that so for he's optimistic, but he urged supporters to still get out there and volt. they still have a couple hours left. he seems rather at ease with the entire process. his supporters have had a tougher time trying to stay calm. >> i didn't get much sleep last night because i was mp amped up. a littl night. a little unnerving. i think later in the evening we'll get to more votes. >> you can see some of the security that's been in place around trump tower. the officers have been continuously sweeping the routes that the candidates will travel. remember, hillary clinton and donald trump are only separated by a little over a mile. this will be the first time in

officers are not at fixed post. they are circulating around. we are told there are tons of plain clothed police officers circulating in the crowd here and at some of the big tourists and gathering spots like times square. i caught up with a secret service agent from our area who said they have just been going nonstop for there's an amazing shift after there's a definite winner because at that point, that person is assigned a counterterrorism team. there's communication with the white house communications staff. e he said it's amazing how quickly everything shifts but from one candidate, that all comes to a crushing end possibly in just a few hours from now. reporting live in mid-town, chris lawrence, back to you.

campaign lawsuit filed today in clark county nevada. it was filed over an early polling place that remains open for two hours past closing time. in doing so it allowed people already in line when the polls closed to be able to go inside to vote. trump says that shouldn't be allowed and he called it evidence of a rigged system. this particular location, however, was in a largely his panic neighborhood in las vegas. the polls in virginia close in less than two hours. you have to be in tonight in order to vote in the commonwealth. . chopper 4 found long lines as people waiting to vote before the sun came up in fairfax county. those lines didn't stop once you got inside. election fushls say this is all pretty normal. turnout so far has been about what they expected. that was the before work rush. now it's the after work rush to the polls. chopper 4 live over briarwood

to vote there now. we're keeping a close eye on how loudoun county votes. the diverse population has selected the winning candidate in the last four elections. david culver picks up our team coverage there. >> reporter: we're live right now in fairfax county. we made the rounds across northern virginia today starting out in arlington and out to loudoun county. you mentioned loudoun county and they are changing demographics. landscape making it unpredictable. so while the big draw to the ballot here have been the presidential race, there's also the tenth district race. we caught up with voters as they are casting their ballot for bennett or barbara kom stock.

participated in early voting. at this precinct, they had more than 200 people in line when they opened this morning. let me show you what it's looking like inside right now. this is the calm before the storm right now. we're expecting numbers to pick up again when folks start to make their way after work. but i can tell you that officials are saying that so far things are looking good in maryland. this is the first paper ballot general election for maryland. there are scanners that need to be scanners go down here, but by and large, they are not seeing a lot of issues. some folks are concerned about the precincts only having one scanner. especially as the numbers pick up tonight. we talked with the executive. here's what he had to say about that. >> it's been steady. very pleased with the process. one of the polling places we didn't have enough of the

campaign case. prosecutors ended the investigation last year never charging gray with any crimes. we started off on a cold note this morning. but wow, what a difference a couple hours makes. walking out the front dor, many of you getting to the polls early seeing these numbers. 28 in frederick. 27 in we warmed into the upper 60s to around 70. that front moving through. look what's moving our way. rainstorm making its way our way. a good chance of rain tomorrow. i'll show you just how long you'll need e the umbrellas. and a shocking scene for some election day volunteers. one of them describing an encounter with a woman who says she had just been set on fire.

now to it new hampshire. this town has the distinction of the first votes of the day were cast in this election. but more eyes will be on other key states tonight as those polls start to close. chuck todd has an hour by hour look at what we can expect tonight. the most important between 7:00 and 8:00. listen to the number of states whose polls close and where we're going to get results quickly. virginia, 7:00. florida, most of the polls close at 7:00. we're going to see a bunch of those. 8:00 is when florida closes. 7:30 it's north carolina, georgia and ohio. my point is this. we're going to know really early if it's going to be a quick night or a long night. if hillary clinton has the momentum that all the national

help. this is how it went down. >> a woman came over this hill here toward us and saying help me. he set me on fire. and she was naked. except with a jacket and burns on her face, on her chest, on her legs and arms. it was horrific. >> reporter: the poll workers called 911. the street engulfed in flames. 45 firefighters worked the scene. a man pulled from that house, he too, taken to the hospital with serious burn injuries. officials say that looking into the possibility it was a fight that led to that fire. >> there was a domestic argument between the man and the woman which may have led to the calls

somebody to do something like that to another human being. >> it certainly is a sight you will not soon forget. >> the case is under investigation. the woman and man are in the hospital tonight. they are said to be in critical condition. now back to you. . >> pat collins reporting. a 75-year-old woman is at the center of a murder investigation in prince georges county. detectives say tfo her apartment and the gateway gardens complex. an autopsy found that rivers died from some type of trauma to her upper body. no word tonight on any possible suspects. vandals spray painted the world war ii e memorial and now u.s. park police wants the public to help the person

then he got up bright and early this morning hoping to be the first one to get to his polling place near his home in richmond. tim kaine had to settle for o number two, which seems appropriate. i had a chance to speak with senator tim kaine one-on-one last night as this grueling campaign was winding to a i asked what nonpolitical thing he was looking forward to doing after the election. >> i'm looking forward to going away for a couple days with my wife. i always plan a couple days away with her right after so i have something to look forward to win or lose. i know i will be spending time with the person i want to spend time together. it's been pretty intense.

app. right now, we're getting our first look at preliminary exit poll results. tom sherwood has been looking at the numbers and what they tell us. you're not talking about where people are leaning but what type of people are voting. >> nationwide an exit poll. first for people who like obama, president obama, they put out a notice at 5:00 that he's at the white house. he won't be going anywhere. he won't be mg president of the united states. all the excitement four and eight years ago, he might put out a statement later if hillary clinton or if there's clear results in the elections. >> i hope he's not alone. >> after eight years in the white house, leaving january 20th.

the biggest race in maryland is the race for barbara mikulski's u.s. senate seat. both from what the job. chris gordon is live in rockville with the role the presidential ticket is playing in this race. >> reporter: we're here at richard montgomery high school. it's getting busier. but the lines aren't that long we are covering the u.s. senate race tonight. we thought it would be interesting to ask some of the voters here and in other polling places around montgomery county and throughout maryland if the top of the ticket trumping clinton influenced who they voted for for u.s. senate. some of the voters we spoke with here in rockville tell us they followed party lines. their choice for president determined who they voted for in

checking in with some of the key battleground states we're going to be watching tonight. the polls have been packed in north carolina including this voting location in charlotte where dozens of people lined up really early to cast their ballot. the tar heel state has 15 electoral votes and the most recent voter registration data showmos trehan 1.3 million democrats voted early in north carolina compared to 990,000 republicans.

watching that one closely too. here's a look at today's turnout in cleveland. there are 18 electoral votes in the buckeye state. voters have overwhelmingly selected the winner of every presidential contest since 1964. florida is another key battleground state. one voting bloc there has already made an unprecedented turnout. gabe gutierrez has a lock at their impact. little havana, where we have seen a steady stream of voters, but no lines and that may be because so many voters here in florida, about half of them, voted early or absentee. the last-minute rush is on for both campaigns to secure the so-called latino vote, which turned out in record levels during early and absentee voting. again, the political world looking at florida to see whether this state decides the

election officials say they saw the lines behind us here inside the gym. you can see the door. that's where people are entering to vote. lines were wrapped around the gym. they are expecting that same rush to come within the next couple minutes here as people get off work. we want to show you video we took inside the polling location here. what you're looking at is the problem. they say that these scanners that they have inside jammed on two different occasions delaying things for aut we're told the democratic party of virginia has sent along voter protection staff to look out for possible voter intimidation. so far that's not been an incident here. voters seem to be very focused and excited about casting their

that combined with the two independents in the senate who caucus with democrats, plus winning the white house, the vice president would give them control of the senate. losing the white house and picking up five seats would also change the balance of power. >> the seats in the house of representatives are up for grabs. a takeover by the democrats is going to be very tough. republicans currently control the house with 247 seats. 46 of those seats contested races today. and democrats would need to win at least 30 seats to get the majority. the news 4 i-team is tracking some issues that voters are seeing at the polls. . she joins us at the decision desk with what she's found. >> with all the concerns about vote rigging, we actually are e seeing very few complaints that we haven't gotten any about vote slipping, really long lines or other problems we reported on in

issues that we are worried about that we want to give you a heads up about inclouding a complaint from a viewer in ward 6 who says that she was forced to use a special ballot in the d.c. board of elections did confirm that a small number of voters were not updated in their system. we're trying to get more details about that. but the board of elections says that anyone with a voter card or a proof of residency should be allowed to use agu they should not have to use a special ballot. and we continue to about privacy when inserting the ballots into scanning machines, we just got off the phone with the registrar in alexandria where they have a five-foot zone of privacy and no one should approach you, which you can insert upside down if you want. if you have any problems or it
