right now, a lot of anticipation as we wait for president obama and president-elect trump to meet at the white house. washington an hour ago. easing traffic could cost you. the meeting happening today to look at how new toll lanes on the beltway could improve the situation. and a look at the improving forecast. this weekend could be beautiful but we do have some rain in the ten-day forecast and a big shot of cold air coming our way.

good morning. i'm barbara harrison. >> we begin with the meeting between donald trump and president obama. we are live at the live desk. pat? i think we are having an issue with pat's microphone but we can tell you that the president-elect trump has arrived here in washington, d.c. and is making his way to pennsylvania avenue. for what will be the start of the transition of power. >> he's going to meet with president obama to talk about inauguration day, of course. can be a tense meeting of what many consider bitter political rivals but the president said he is committed to a peaceful transition of power. the white house says the trump team will start working with federal agencies this week. >> that, of course, includes way

transition of power. and what could very well be a bit of an awkward meeting given the very different takes and approaches on politics and governing this country. another sign of change. vice president biden and vice president-elect pence will meet at the white house and not everyone is supporting the new president-elect. hundreds of people here in the area hit the streets in protest last night. megan la graph is live near where the demonstrations were taking place. megan? >> reporter: that's right.

cleanup after the protest. if you look at the window along the side of the building, you can see blue pigment. that's paint thrown up against the building last night. the gentleman will resume power washing here trying to clean all of that up. early this morning, we also saw crews arrive here to put up these metal barriers that you see behind me here. look at the video. around 6:00 in the morning, a truck pulled up along the main entrance to the trump international hotel so this is right on pennsylvania avenue. the main entrance, something similar done on the side of the building. so you cannot enter through the front and one entrance on the left side to enter. when we arrived at 4:30 this morning, there were anti-trump graffiti on the sidewalk. they have power washed that off. there was a crowd of protesters

were smashing cars, setting fires, even attacking police officers. 30 people were arrested there. oakland police say three officers were hurt. in total, overnight, more than 100 people were arrested. turning to our weather now, felt like november this morning and warming up. let's check in with lauren rick its. >> yeah. on the ten-day forecast, more temperatures to you want to stick around to see what to expect. right now, blue skies. beautiful day out there. and you know, temperatures 56 degrees. we have that wind northwest at about 10 to 20 miles per hour. right now d.c.a. reagan national airport at 17 miles per hour. pure sunshine. just a beautiful day. now, planning out the day, just sunny and gorgeous. now that sun goes down in the 4:00 hour, so of course, getting earlier and earlier.

skies and weekend forecast, veterans day tomorrow, and more december-like temperatures on the ten-day coming up. >> thanks, lauren. breaking developments in pennsylvania, an officer that was shot this morning has died. two police officers were ambushes in cannonsburg and responding to a domestic violence call. both officers were shot as they were walking up to the house. police say they have a suspect but it's not clear if that person is in custody. th condition the other officer is in. and here in the district, a man recovering from a shooting this morning. d.c. police say he was shot in the chinatown neighborhood. they found him at 6th street northwest and happened about 2:40 this morning. h street was shut down for a while and back open now. police said they did not arrest anyone in the case. a new mural outside of prince georges county elementary school honors a teacher and

they were shot and killed outside their home in fort washington earlier this year. police say chloe's father admitted to carrying out the shooting. an hour ago, officials unveiled the mural outside the elementary school in capital heights. davis was a teacher at that school. happening today, we could learn more about some potential changes for commuters in our area today. montgomery and prince georges county officials are coming together to talk about improving transportation reporter adam toughs with more on what they're looking at. >> reporter: there just has to be a better way and that's really the focus of the transportation meeting today between the leaders. how do we get around in a better fashion coming to transportation? take a look at 270. right here in montgomery county. most days, yeah, looks like that. and it is not a fun ride. morning, noon, night and that is

months ago. rahami is accused of planting bombs in manhattan and new jersey. this morning he is in a manhattan courtroom and charged officially with terrorism. 30 people were injured when those bombs went off. >> thank you, pat. a new president was just elected two days ago but you might want to make plans for inauguration day on friday, january 20th. federal workers will have that day off as a holiday and everybody else needs to make plans for there's several road closures downtown. safe track work is scheduled to happen in january. it's not clear if metro plans to continue it in the inauguration. everybody wants to know what's going to happen when the president-elect gets to the oval office. well, he is already put out a plan for critical first 100 days. nbc's halle jackson tells us whether the promises will become policies.

washington. >> we together are going to drain the swamp. >> reporter: but now that his transition to the white house is happening, just how realist are president-elect trump's goals? one of his first priorities -- tearing down obamacare. >> real change begins with immediately repealing and replacing the disaster known as obamacare. >> reporter: trump affordable care act. president obama's signature law providing health care to millions. but can he do it? file this under maybe. first, congress would need to take action and while republicans could have trouble getting the 60 votes to get it to the president's desk, a vote to repeal did make it to president obama earlier this year under a special budget procedure that required only a simple majority. he, of course, vetoed the repeal.

pledge. >> donald j. trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of muslims entering the united states. >> reporter: his temporary proposed muslim ban, unpopular even among many republicans. candidate trump signaling he won't take such a hardline stance. >> after donald trump and mike pence visit the white house, they'll meet with speaker of the house paul ryan and talk about those trump university lawsuit will hold a hearing on jury instructions and what else will be allowed at trial today. the trial is expected to begin november 28th. that means president-elect trump could take the witness stand just weeks before his inauguration. among the requests that will be considered from both sides, a petition by trump's attorneys to exclude any statements made by or about their client made during the presidential campaign.

windy side. temperatures out there right now, we are up to 56. we are on our way into the 60s for daytime highs today. low to mid-60s. 55 in norton. again, under plenty of sunshine. so 64 is where we top out today. that wind will continue to come on down. throughout the afternoon. and then pick back up through the day tomorrow. in fact, the winds will really be strong in the day tomorrow. gusting up to about 25, 30 miles per hour at times. now, we have got clear there right now and look at this. throughout the united states. i mean, really not a lot happening out there today. so as you go into the evening, just wonderful. 7:00, 8:00, temperatures 50s and clear skies as i said. a light wind in the overnight. of course, veterans day forecast, we start off with a little bit of sunshine. as we get into the afternoon, that's when the clouds will increase. the winds, as well. gusts up to about 25, 30 miles per hour but that's a front am system coming through.

we have some breaking news right now. he's meeting with president obama to talk about transitioning to a new administration in just a few months from now. that transition will start taking place within days and includes budget policy and major staff changes. inauguration is friday, january 20th. so, what are trump and president obama going to be meeting about today? governor chris christie, the man leading trump's transition, was asked about that very thing this morning on "today" and he talked

relationship in the past. >> i think that's all past us. the fact is -- president said a lot of things. i was at the correspondents' dinner and said things of donald trump trying to delegitimize him. that's politics, though. what i think they recognize is now this is about governing and leading the nation and the world. >> governor christie also said that he and the president-elect trump have not talked about anything of a cabinet role in his new administration. tim kaine is back in richmond, virginia, this morning after losing tuesday's election. kaine said he and his wife will spend a few days with family before returning to washington. the seat in the senate is not up for re-election until 2018. on monday, he'll head back to capitol hill for the start of what is considered a lame duck session of congress. now, hillary clinton is facing a major transition of her own now, so what does the future hold for her? and the clinton family.

>> portuguese. >> together they probably cooked up fabulous things. >> yes. we never had a bad meal at home, for sure. >> you can kind of do whatever you want with paella? chicken? beef? >> there's a lot of different interpretations. as many paella recipes as you can probably think of. for us in valencia, most important thing is rice. >> talk about what you do now. we have the big paella pan here. it's not hot but yo to put it together. where do you start? >> well, the way i do things it's a little different to kind of get some flavors out and depends if you're in a contest to do things backwards. >> i see. >> so like valencian paella, you get the flavors of the rice out of the flavors of the ingredients. >> i see. >> you don't use a broth. you use water. the idea is the flavor of the ingredients. >> do you cook the rice first or

>> so for like this style of paella, i cook the meats and vegetables off. >> let's toss it altogether. >> cook it and then take it off and start with the rice and put the toppings back on after the rice cooks. >> okay. >> so like first, you know, we would have all this cooked and then we would put in the combination of sun dried tomatoes, regular put it all in here. >> move it around. >> have that cook. >> that's already been cooked. sun dried tomato, huh? i love those. >> the rice is a complex process to get all of the other ingredients involved. >> okay. >> so then put the rice in. >> what kind?
