9:47 am
i think this year will be just as brutal and the worst part could be the cold. the super strong el nino of last season is gone and we're leading toward a weak la nina. the jet flow tends to be above the mid atlantic. if i was looking at la nina alone, we might expect a mild and wet winter, but there are other factors here at play. one of the biggest is siberian snow cover. siberia in late october gives us a signal of what we may expect for the rest of winter. this year, that snow cover is one of the largest ever, that combined with record amounts of arctic sea ice will allow cold air to move into the country and especially into our region. now, we still expect snow but i'm not calling for another big storm. they will have a big impact on
9:48 am
the biggest impact will be the cold and it could be record breaking. so let's break it down. we think this year's cold may come much earlier than last year. december and january are looking very cold with a few days only in the teens. february may be our warmest winter month this season and we expect temperatures well above average. the cold will try to make a return though in march and this is where i think we could find our big yes storms. not the storm of last year but potent storms that deliver a puny. this year i'm predicting average or above average snow fall. the d.c. area averages 15 inches a year and this year i'm going 14 to 20 inches along the i-95 corridor with more to the north and west as usual and a little bit less to the south and east. 14 to 20? i can deal with that. >> i can deal with cold. i'll take cold over a blizzard. >> as long as it doesn't come as once.
9:49 am
an inch of snow creates a gridlock. >> it is enough. >> but, you know, what is looking more like this winter, we're probably going to get them in parcells of four or five inches each. looking outside, we have a bright sun pouring down im illuminating the region and there is reston. almost looks like a painting. there is dulles toll way. traffic moving smoothly under this gorgeous sunshine and you can see individual trees there, still but most of the trees off to the west have lost their lives. there is the blue potomac under this clear sky by noon, the mid-50s, upper 50s by mid afternoon, and then the bright super moon will be in the sky this evening. can't miss it. you'll be able to see it easily in the eastern and souther sky. temperatures back near 50 by 9:00 tonight. we have a clear sky now but there is rain beginning to come up into the carolinas. it looks like that may be a
9:50 am
we're getting a flow out of the north and west as high pressure is with us bringing in the dry air. we'll be clouding up during the day tomorrow. the system approves from the south and getting a few sprinkles or light rain from it in the afternoon. otherwise, most of the day is dry and cloudy with temperatures in the upper 50s. a lot of clouds around monday night so tonight is the best night to see the super moon and then as we get into tuesday, a low 40s in the morning, afternoon highs around 60 and highs near 60 each day the rest of the week. another chance a sprinkles on wednesday and into next weekend. maybe saturday night. otherwise, pretty dry pattern here and it gets colder after next weekend into the following week with highs only in the 40s to near 50. that is the way it looks. >> all right, thank you, tom. their love broke barriers, now their story is on the big screen but they couldn't do it alone. the help one couple received
