you. it will take you 14 minutes. i'll see you in a few. >> thank you, melissa. 5:02 now. back to the breaking news. a deadly shooting in southeast washington. >> police are investigating along third street just south of atlantic streets and that is where megan mcgrath is live now with more. megan, what have you learned? >> reporter: well, you can see that i have a police officer immediately behind me here on third street and then if you look down a little ways, you can see that there is another squad car here in the parking now, this happened late last night. police got a 911 call, a report of a shooting. when they arrived on the scene, that is when they found an adult male. he was transported, taken to an area hospital where he later died. now, in terms of information about a suspect rather, descriptions and possible motive here, that all of that is unclear at this point. very early in this

that how you staff, particularly your chief of staff, white house council, that that is something that has to be attended to right away. >> the president says it is imperative to set-up a system for which trump will get his information and weigh his options. >> students are protesting the election results. two people were arrested last night in seattle at a student protest. they allegedly assaulted police officers during an otherwise peaceful protest. in our area, nearly 800 students walked out of class at montgomery blair high school in silver springs. students carried signs and chanted not my president. students from north wood and einstein high schools also joined the protest. police say it was peaceful and no arrests. students can have the absences excused with a note from a parent. a recent stream of racist notes and vandalism has council

resolution to provide training for all 311 operators. employees will learn how to respond to hate crimes and harassment. the training will instruct staff when it is appropriate to transfer victims to the police department for further investigation. this morning, the montgomery county police department is offering a $10,000 reward for information on vandalism at a silver spring church. this happened saturday night. someone wrote the phrase trump nation, whites only on a wall at the church of our savior. they wrote on the back of a banner advertising spanish services as well. last week, students discovered racist graffiti on a bathroom wall at sligo creek elementary school in silver spring. parents say it is disturbing they didn't learn about the incident until monday. >> we've had a whole weekend go by. this should have gone out on

about this a lot sooner. that would have given us the weekend to talk with our kids and help them go through anything that they might need to go through. >> the students principal says students did report the graffiti but the teacher didn't report the information to the main office. a building service worker saw the graffiti and removed it the same day. it involved removing 14 layers of paints, fixing cracks and there is an event to show off the brand new look here at 9:00 this morning. you can see in the live pictures, a little brighter, a little whiter there. we'll bring you something from the event on news4 midday today. here in the newsroom, we have an update from the charlotte county sheriff's office in a missing 4-year-old girl. police telling us that the child was actually abducted by her father last thursday but the

?? >> students, teachers and parents stood in front of arcola elementary school in silver spring last night remembering 7-year-old devan harley junior. 6-year-old brother nicholas and five-year-old sister lea. the children died on friday in a crash along 95 along with a family friend, lonnie tran who was 27. the family was headed to a wedding in south carolina when their car started to have were hit by a tractor trailer. devon harley is expected to survive but their mother, nancy, is fighting for her life. >> they really need everyone's strength and prayers and it is really hard to keep yourself together, but you have to and you know, little by little, everything will get better. >> the school has set-up a go fund me page to help with funeral expenses.

face involuntary manslaughter charges. witnesses say john miller hit and killed a 5 month old baby back in august. they say the mother was pushing his stroller while crossing riverside parking in landsdown. miller was looking at his phone before the crash and sped up to try to beat them through the intersection. investigators are looking for a man accused of throwing hot soup on a she refused to pay her fare and cursed at the driver. she rode the bus from benning road. the bus driver was taken to the hospital where he was treated and relationed. it is 5:09. today you will want to slow down on the roads in prince william county or face getting a nine could cost hundreds of dollars officers are stepping up enforcement of the street smart campaign. they'll be along route one near a spot where a woodbridge man

intersection. just take a look. this is a busy intersection, lots of cars. we've been seeing lots of people crossing the street. lots of law enforcement eyes on this busy route 1 corridor in prince george or prince william county. we're at the intersection in east long view county. at 6:00, officers will be on the look out for pedestrians, bicyclists, drivers, anyone not obeying the traffic safety laws and as we scene involving a pedestrian on this busy stretch just last year. that was a pedestrian and a tractor trailer and the person trying to cross in the crosswalk died. be warned. if you break one of the laws, the officers are going to ticket you and those tickets could range from $40 up to $500. you can also be looking at points on your driving record as

whole idea is to get you more alert and be aware of safety. that is the latest live from prince william county. back to you. >> thank you. 5:47 now. covering northern virginia where a loudoun county man will be in court today. john miller stands accused of hitting a 5 month old baby and his mother as they were use aging a crosswalk. the baby died in the accident. witnesses say miller was looking at his pho and then tried to speed up to try to beat them through the intersection. >> should have been more vigilant about seeing what was going on. that is something i think very strongly about that that should happen. the pedestrians are there. you shouldn't race through a green light because it is a green light. >> news4 contacted miller's attorney but had no comment because this is a pending case.

virginia man accused of sexually assaulting two girls. luis ore is a registered sex offender. he followed the two girls into the bathroom. he sexually assaulted them. both victims are under 13 years old. ore was working on the the restaurant. he was convicted in 2012 of the abduction and sexual battery of a minor. just in out of iraq. a big milestone in the fighto forces. we just learned from iraqi officials that more than a third of isis forces have been dislodged from part of the city of mosul. this is a big deal in the fight to liberate mosul from the islamic state. aaron, back to you. >> kristin wright for us at the live desk. it is coming up on 5:49. the justice department is siding with the lawsuit that challenges virginia's practice of

people who can't pay court fees. in a brief filed last week, the justice department says the practice is unconstitutional. the legal aide just center says 1 million people are affected about this practice. we're getting the numbers on what will be a very busy week for travel. aaa says more of us will travel for the thanksgiving holiday. aaa expects 1.2 million people will be going home. some could leave as early as this sunday. more than a million travellers will be driving. that is about six % increase over last people flying home for the holidays. according to aaa, it has been nine years since this many people traveled for thanksgiving. it will be crowded out there. >> there is a new tsa screening process that could help speed up the long lines at one of the busiest airports in the country. chicago's o'hare airport is using automated security lines. fewer workers are needed because
