players facing charges tonight, suspended indefinitely. their alleged role in pellet gun shootings on campus. and the emotional moment in hillary clinton's first public appearance since conceding to donald trump. . >> announcer: news4 at 11:00 starts now. three people hurt, at least one critically burned. that's the toll taken by this fire that gutted a fo >> this happened at 21st and h northwest on the george washington university campus. shomari stone spoke to one of those victims tonight. he is live at the scene. >> reporter: good evening. one of those victims tells me he is very sick and recovering. this fire really shook the campus of this food truck. now, many of the students, faculty, and the fellow food

stunned. >> absolute shock. >> the bus was completely engulfed in the flame. >> reporter: shyler was surprised to see one of his favorite trucks going up in flames at george washington university this afternoon. >> you know, i go there at least once a week to eat. so my first thought was, you know r the people inside okay? and you know, i understand that this is their business. it's their livelihood, but are those people okay? >> reporter: tonight two condition. one has minor injuries after the house of if a lafell food truck caught on fire on the 2100 block of h street, where several food trucks are parked on gw's campus. matt gain was parked behind and watched firefighters put out the flames. >> we were scared. we were concerned about our livelihood and we were concerned about the people on the truck. we evacuated as quickly as possible. >> reporter: tonight you can see

off. fire investigators are trying to determine what caused this fire. you look down here. you can see this generator. did this cause it? or was it something else? >> it's hard to tell. >> reporter: the director of dmv's food truck association an advocacy organization and says food trucks must pass a health inspection every two years and a safety inspection every year. has this truck been through that? >> not get answers. >> reporter: again. we talked to the owner of the food truck and he told me that he passed the health and safety inspection. he wouldn't give specifics. again, essays that he is recovering. we of course will try and contact him tomorrow. meanwhile, dc fire investigators are trying to determine what sparked the blaze. as soon as we find out, we will tell you all about it on our nbc washington app.

shomari stone, news4. chopper 4 captured the moment when crews pulled a construction workerer from a trench in green belt ending hours of suspense. the collapse happened about 1:00. two rescue crews tried to dig the unanimous out. 3:00 rolled by, then 4:00, then 5:00, just before 6:00 crews slowly pulled the man out on a to a trauma center but is expected to safe. for the third day, students protested the results of the presidential election. they marched through rockville and wound up on the steps of the old county courthouse. tonight, the superintendent released a video asking them to stop. >> these demonstrations have unfortunately generated valid concerns regarding the students

disappointed and gotth got choked up at one point. she was talking about her mother who was mistreated by her family and abandoned by her parents when she was 8 years old. >> i dream of going up to her and sitting next to her and taking her in my arms and saying looking look at me, and listen, you will survive, your daughter will grow up to be a united states senator, represent our country as secretary of state, and win more than 62 million united states. >> senator bernie sanders also made some waves tonight. he was asked if his attacks on clinton in the primaries hurt her chances of winning and said, well, you can argue the reverse, that maybe he would have won the general election. sanders also called the republican party arrogant and said if they expect confirmation hearings on a supreme court justice to move quickly, they should think twice.

remember facing charges related to shooting students on campus with an air soft gun. jackie bensen live in college park with reaction. >> reporter: we have obtained the charging documents in this case. they say that two air soft rifles that look like ak-47s were surrendered to police by the football players. shock in college park tonight as word spread that two members of the shootings that had students on alert for their safety. >> we have been getting a lot of warnings the past couple weeks about beebe guns and then shooting and all these things. makes me really nervous. >> reporter: lorenzo harrison the third is a starting running back approaching record yards by a freshman. both are 19, both graduated from

degree assault and reckless endangerment in three recent cases where students walking on campus reported getting shot by bbs. it's now believed they were actually pellets from an air soft gun. arrest warrants were issued friday. harrison and turner were suspended from the team hours before maryland's 62-3 loss to ohio state. the athletic department says in part, we are aware of the situation and take these matters very involved have been suspended indefinitely for violating the student athlete code of conduct. >> i think it's important to hold people accountable for what they are doing and important for us to feel safe. >> reporter: the court documents show there was a third player in the back seat of the car during one of these incidents. he has not been charged. live in college park, jackie bensen, news4. this will be the last weekend of business for aches si

bureau chief tracee wilkins broke the news today, she says the county defeated several court appeals to keep the clubs open. sees and desist orders are going out. this got started last spring when twh county changed zoning laws saying strip clubs couldn't do business near churches. a major development. tonight in one of the most shocking police-involved shootings this year. shot by a police officer during a traffic stop. his girlfriend began streaming the aftermath on facebook, you may recall. now officer geronimoian easy is charged with manslaughter. he said he thought castile was reaching for a gun. after watching the video prosecutors say castile was calm, compliant and did everything right. >> his dying words were in

it's big brother to the rescue. take a look at this. a mother in miami left a baby on the changing table for just a moment. and he suddenly rolled over. he was just a split second from hitting the ground when 9-year-old joseph rushed to his rescue. the mother has five children, was trying to get three of them ready for bed when this happened last month. she says she was too embarrassed to post the video then but now

residents of dc's ward eight got a progress report tonight on a new sports and entertainment arena coming to our region. the wizards will use it as a practice facility and it will serve as home court for the mistics. tonight residents saw the latest design concepts. the arena is expected to have a little more than 4,000 seats. it's opening on the old campus of st. eves hospital in congress heights. that's in southeast. the project is expected up by 2018. opiod and heroin addiction is a huge problem that we've been covering for many months now. president obama calls ate threat as great as terrorism and many of the victims of this crisis are almost invisible. the pictures are pretty shocking, two parents passed out in the front seat of a van with their toddler in back. a little girl crying in a store. sheets' trying to rouse her

addiction to opiates and heroin out of control in america right now. and thousands of children are the victims, losing their parents and their homes to drugs. >> sometimes you get so lost. you know? this should be my time to shine, and i'm here raising a 6-year-old child, my husband and i a p >> reporter: mary and ed live in the baltimore area. they have custody of their granddaughter, lexi. their daughter janet, lexi's mother, struggled with drug addiction for years. first pills. then heroin. >> drugs just totally had taken what love she ever had for her daughter. >> reporter: lexi used to live with her own parents but when mary saw the conditions her granddaughter was living in she was appalled.

drugs. that's all these kids see when they are with their parents, drugs. they don't hide that from these kids. that's when i look at my husband and said we have to do something. >> reporter: they petitioned the court and their daughter for full custody of lexi, and won. there are no concrete numbers for how many people are raising their grandchildren as a result of drug addiction. but a look on facebook shows pages like the addicts mom, grandparents raising grandchildren, which offer on line group support for grandparents. >> i know a total of probably eight grandparents that are raising their grandchildren. like i said, the lady that lives next to me lost her son from the drug. >> reporter: suddenly becoming a parent again after raising her own five children is a challenge in so many ways. >> i didn't have a car seat for lexi. i had nothing. no bed. no nothing.

neighbors have helped out and mary now works cleaning houses and walking dogs. but making sure lexi feels safe and stable has been the hardest part. >> she was a child that was traumatized. like i said, i couldn't get her to sleep by herself. i got her in therapy. >> reporter: mary says her daughter janet is now clean and sober and lives in an upstairs apartment in their home where she and ed can keep an eye on her. although janet has it's lexi's grandparents who are sharing in all their granddaughter's moments and milestones. >> her very first report card. i'm happy she is starting to become this happy little girl that she should have been four years ago. >> lexi and her family are looking forward to spending the holidays together. so many other children of addiction will not be so fortunate. doug joins us now. couple of nice days before the

upper 60s. that system is moving through. the bigger system is way up to the north. the little systems are going around the bigger system. behind this there is nothing to talk about from washington back towards chicago. that means plenty of sunshine for the next two days. and then things change. let's look at that sunshine tomorrow. 66 degrees. sunny and nice across the area. really is going to be very nice out as we make our way through. again, temperatures for the next few days nice. 65, 66 tomorrow. 70 on the average tie hmp this time of year is 58. we are nowhere near a record though. the record is 80 on friday. still extremely warm. most of saturday during the day looks great. if you have any plans on saturday, no problem. but it's saturday night that we see the warm air give way to the cold air as the front moves through. i'm not just talking any front either. this is going to be a strong front. much colder.
