investigation. one that started very early this morning. we also know a little bit more about the victims. four in all. a man who is 35, a woman and then two young children. two little girls. we're not sure of the relation of everybody here, but i want you to hear from the spokesperson from the sheriffs office. >> the preliminary investigation shows that the incident was murder-suicide. a 35-year-old male a 35-year-old female, a 5-year-old female and an 18-month-old female. >> reporter: the is sheriffs office is stressing domestically related because they want to put out there's no threat to the public. however, they won't give details as to what initiated their response to this home.

chopper 4. this is the windsor forest neighborhood. you can see homes are spread a good distance apart. deputies focused solely on this one home. we know at least that one couple lived there and the neighbor says an subtle son moved in a a short time ago u. the sheriffs a office not specifying who they are involved. we don't know how the four people may have known each other. one neighbor told us hearing typical. >> no, it's a quiet neighborhood.

that's been roaming around. neighbors have been trying to get an idea of what's going on. it's the murder-suicide investigation. one that we're following closely. we'll bring you updates as we get them. >> david culver on the scene. thank you. breaking news from metro this evening. the transit agency is removing defect. the problem comes as metro reacts to a skait canning report about its safe track program. the federal transit administration found the total cost of safetrack would be more than $118 million. . the report also found that metro lacked a management plan for the work that's disrupted so many riders. adam tuss is here now with

>> reporter: these rail cars have been called the dogs of the metro fleet. they have been a known problem for a long time within the metro system. there are 82 rail cars out on the system right now. so that's not a huge impact to metro riders, but the one thing you might notice is fewer longer eight car trains. that could be the big impact. as far as what happened here at metro headquarters today, man, oh man, another day of dealing with safetrack questions, dealing with budget questions, potential fare hikes, all of that on the table. and metro once again heard from the packed board room of riders upset at what's coming down the pike. >> come on now. how much more can a person

>> he jumped in and headed for the 7-year-old daughter first. >> i just kind of went in and helped. there was no time to wait. >> other people on shore helped grab the child who was swimming herself. >> he wasn't screaming, but he was saying i can't swim. he really was going under and having a hard time staying up and really did look panicked at that point. >> a teenage boy had entered the water and they pulled him to safety. today as police officers congratulated her, he rejected the notion that her actions were heroic. >> it's a little like getting a ribbon for a c. you're supposed to do that. you're supposed to help people. i certainly would hope that in the same situation, somebody would be pulling my child out of the car. >> reporter: he had this message for his rescuer. >> thank you so much for saving my life.

megan mcgrath talked with the victim's son-in-law today. >> i think it kind of came up on her pretty fast. >> a horrifying experience. attacked by a mother bear seen in this photo in the driveway of her daughter's home in frederick. people who live in this rural neighborhood know not to come between her bear and cubs. . it was 9:30 at night. >> the bear was there. had to do a search. >> mark says his t 63-year-old karen osbourne, didn't know what she was walking into. >> cub ran in the tree and the grandmother got between the bear and the cub and broke her arm and scratched her up really bad. >> then i u heard a cub up in the tree. >> the bear family is known to people who live in the iron gate neighborhood. >> we just like our wildlife.

backyard. the mother bear had an injured shoulder, possibly hit by a car at some point. she was tagged by the department of natural resources and had a tracking device. she could be protective of her cubs. >> when i got a little close, she made a mock charge and i backed off and everything was okay. >> using special equipment, experts with dnr worked through the night to locate the bear and this morning she was found and killed. and free to roam. >> we handled one of the cubs. it's been tagged. the other two cubs were down there. they are both more than capable of surviving on their own. they are close to 100 pounds. >> reporter: the family and experts agree this is one of the wrong place wrong time situations. a chance encounter in the dark with tragic consequences. the victim has serious injuries.

she put off getting regular bone density tests because she didn't want possible negative results to interfere with her lifestyle. >> the last scan was so much worse. it shouldn't drop that much. my function deteriorated since the previous scan. and i thought to myself, if in another two years it decreases even more, when the body loses bone or doesn't produce enough bone. healthy bone looks like this. but osteoprosis makes the holes and says larger and weaker and those weaker bones can break a lot more easily. 50 million americans suffer from oes owe pro sis. . women are the most vulnerable. half of all women over the age of 50 will suffer a broken bone

but men can get it too. one-fourth of all men in that same age range will also break a bone. regular scans monitor bone health and medicine can prevent problems. but doctor singer and her colleagues say they see too many patient who is are afraid of taking medication. >> you hear us with disclaimers of the things that can go wrong. i would rather just drink more milk. do some weight baring exercise. do something so medications because i just thought they were so the side effects were so terrible. >> it can lead to fractures of the hip, shoulder, wrists and curvature of the spine. injuries that can really alter your lifestyle. dr. singer's other big concern, a decline in health insurance coverage of bone density testing. >> if you test fewer people, you make fewer diagnosis.

prince georges county bureau chief tracee wilkins has the story from police headquarters. >> here in the neighborhood where this happened, they still have a a sign up reminding folks about the $25,000 reward leading to information in this case. they are asking the public to find this young girl's killer. >> that's what i still hear her

state don't come up with an aagreement. the law passed last year requires ridesharing companies to begin fingerprinting drivers during background chex. taxis already do that, but uber says that adding fingerprinting to their background checks would create unnecessary hurdles for drivers in maryland. hearings begin today in front of the maryland public service commission. as which immigrants get to stay in our country, one family is asking for special consideration as they fight to bring their father home. humanitarian parole. he was living in the u.s. legally back in the 1980s, but he was convicted of a nonviolent drug charge. he served his time in prison and

us four people found dead in a home was a case of murder-suicide. two adults and two small children are dead. >> i think you kind of came up on her pretty fast. a woman has a broken arm and some stitches, but is expected to be okay after being attacked by a bear. this happened last night on her driveway here in frederick. authorities had to euthanize that bear. she was trying to protect her three cubs. bear attack in maryland. a middle school teacher has been fired after cell phone video surfaced showing her using racially charged remarks in the classroom. it happened in an eighth grade science class. the teacher, while apparently trying to get control of the class, told students they would get a zero for not doing work and then used the "n" word.

chris gordon, news 4. an awful story where investigators search for clues inside that house. four people were found dead. two of the victims were young children. >> moments ago, it was ruled a murder-suicide. all of this unfolding off wilderness court. that's where david culver joining us live. david? >> reporter: most disturbing for some of the neighbors here is knowing among the dead two children, two little girls, a 5-year-old and 18-month-old. we have asked deputies for names. they are holding off on releasing identities until they can make sure that all the loved ones are made known of this tragedy. chopper 4 gives you a view of the windsor forest neighborhood.
