chancellor michelle rhee for a possible education secretary candidate had a controversial three year term here in the district. four people are dead after a medical plane crash in nevada. the plane was taking a heart patient and three crew members to a hospital in utah when it crashed into a nearby parking lot. the cause of that crash still under investigation. news 4 today starts now. we welcome you back this saturday morning november 19th. good morning to you. i'm david culver. angie is off. we want to start outside with the weather deck and tom who is standing by with big changes we can expect this weekend. >> here in the northwest washington we are just basking in the sun here and the breezes are beginning to pick up as well ahead of a cold front that will be sweeping in later this afternoon that will bring some big changes for us and bring in

several stafford county churches this weekend, healing. many trying to understand what led to a tragic murder suicide. the man killed his wife and two girls and took his own life. >> responding to medical. >> you're hearing the radio communications as crews respond to this corner home where the buckleys live along with their adult son, his wife and little girls. >> we received advising three murders and now a suicide and then the call disconnected. >> thursday morning lance called 911 to report a murder suicide. investigators showed up to find the family of four killed, lance taking his own life. >> honestly i'm not sure we have registered the loss. >> amy's facebook page shows a sweet family dressing up for hol wean holding tight to one another.

5-year-old claire attended. even her school bus driver struggling to cope with that loss. health department officials are expandsing an investigation after an individual was diagnosed with ter burk loesz last week. a small group of people at the center may have been exposed. the school district is notifying parents and staff of all those involved and who may have have so far the school system has identified nearly 300 people for screening. detectives in fairfax county need your help. they're looking for a man who they say exposed himself to an 8-year-old boy inside a target store. we want to show you the images right now. these are surveillance pictures. this is the man they're looking for. the incident happened inside the target rest room on arlington boulevard thursday night. the boy ran outside the rest

happened. if you know anything, the police want to hear from you. metro may sue the district over last year's deadly smoke incident. they say metro has asked the judge for permission to file claims against d.c. the lawsuit would be in connection with other passenger lawsuits filed which accuse d.c. fire and ems for negligence for not providing prompt rescue services. for 12 years she worked her dream job as an officer, but into is her her injuries forced her to leave the department. she's now starting over and she's got a new career that's aimed at private narcotics detection. tonight several will gather to help her launch this new chapter at her life. it starts at 6:00 this evening. you can read her story in our nbc washington app. take immediate action or shut it down. we'll tell you about the new

to a story only on news 4, there was a call for immediate changes inside a d.c. homeless shelter this morning. the fire marshal has threatened to shut down the facility unless the fire alarm system is fixed immediately. extensive vandalism has damaged the system. a volunteer group says a fix is crucial. >> definitely having working fire alarms and escape route children and the staff. >> the mayor says the building will be monitored for fire hazards until repairs are finished. a man arrested for stealing a puppy from a home says he was trying to save the puppy from abuse. the puppy was returned to police last week after the man turned himself in. we showed you the surveillance video. it shows him taking the dog from a home last month. pulled the pup over the fence

good morning. big changes on the way. strong cold front now triggering rain and snowshowers off to our west that will be advancing into the metro area late this afternoon. between now and then warming to near 70 degrees around 2:00. drop down into the 50s and after that strong winds tonight. a look at that and the hour-by-hour timing for the rain in a couple of minutes. >> we'll check in with you then. fire investigators remain on the scene of an early morning fair in fairfax county. we know two people were hurt including a woman who was rushed to the hospital. derrick ward is live in woodlawn with more on the investigation. what are you learning? >> reporter: good morning.

police and fire investigators remain here on the scene of this fire. they have been since just about literally since 2:00 this morning. it was about 1:48 when the fire department was dispatched to a house in the 4,900 block of keeler court. the house is at 4911. policed been called to the scene. what we know is an adult female is in critical condition. she was taken away with burns that are described as life hospital with less serious injuries. we understand there may have been at least one or maybe other people in the home at the time of this, not all of them injured. we don't know the circumstances of this fire, but we do know that investigators have brought an arson team and a dog which is more than likely an accelerant detecting dog that would be able to detect if something was used to make this fire spread or feed

remains closed while the investigators hold this scene. we don't have identities of any of the victims involved or the cause of this fire. that is likely what these in rvz are trying to find out now. one woman in critical condition and another adult taken to the hospital with less serious injuries after this fire on keeler court early this morning. live in woodlawn, derrick ward, news 4, back to you. today d.c. will hold its 30th annual adoption day event. barbara harrison who has been helping children find homes will be there. the child and family services agency is looking for permanent loving adoptive homes for 86 children currently in foster care. the event gets under way at 10:00 this morning. it's part have national adoption day there will be hundreds of ceremonies today as folks become part of their forever families

news 4 melissa is a sharing her story about recently adopting her little girl. >> reporter: after years of losses and fertility treatments, tears and sleepless nights our family start thinking about adopting, we wanted another child and we were open to any race, boy or girl, an older child in foster care or an infant. what ended up in our arms was our perfect love. we got the day. >> what's that? >> your daughter. >> what? >> when her birth mother picked us, it felt like finding out i was pregnant. >> yeah! >> we made a book so that her birth mother could know about our family. >> i love you. >> she was born at the end of may. she's the most wonderful thing ever. when the doctor put her in my arms for the first time. >> it was all the normal

way, but right now we're dry. those storms will come from the southwest and into the metro later this afternoon. here is the area in green. that's the rain coing into the shenandoah valley. might have a few showers before that, but the main showers coming in around 3:00, 4:00, 5:00 with some strong gusts of wind as they move through. after that we'll have the colder air coming in. mountains, mostly snow showers there. they could get several inches of snow. temperatures are jumping into the 50s. overnight tonight we'll see temperatures drop back into the 50s and by dawn tomorrow the 30s and afternoon highs in the upper 40s to near 50 with strong winds. dry into wednesday. maybe some snowshowers on thanksgiving day.
