he was making a routine traffic stop just outside of police head quarters. that's when he got out and walked up to the detective's window, and shot him twice in the head fatally. >> in my opinion what we know right now, this was nothing short of an assassination. he happened to be wearing the wrong >> police are searching for a person of interest seen in this photo and they don't believe he has any relationship to the original motorist pulled over. officers have been ordered to call for back up. and a manhunt is underway for another officer-involved shooting. the suspect is considered to be armed and dangerous. it happened sunday when a

police car and fired two shots at an officer's face. it was unprovoked. the 46-year-old is in critical but stable condition and expected to survive. though police will not release the officer's name, he's a married father of three who's been with the department -- the suspect drove off in a car it nonstop meetings for president elect donald trump as he met 21 cabinet members at his new jersey golf club while he greeted a former school chancellor washington d.c. and rudy giuliani, chris christie and retired general, james mads, a leading candidate for defense secretary. and while trump teased a couple of deals, no news was made since

what a game. we'll get right to your forecast, but first angie goff has breaking news from the district. we have a 12 inch water main broken and it will take up to ten hours we're hearing to repair. this means about 50 buildings along connecticut avenue northwest between yuma an van ness will be impacted. you are taking a look at video of the scene. workers busy some of these buildings by the way on the udc campus, so those will be impacted, as well. stay with news 4 for updates on the repair. damaging wis blew through other area. >> thousands of residents were left in the dark. we'll have more on that in a moment, but first we want to check in with chuck bell on this weather alert day. feels like someone turned on

the winds have been just howling all night long. they picked up saturday afternoon. you probably noticed the exact minute that the cold front came by because the winds turned around to the northwest and they have been howling out of the northwest ever since. wind advisory goes officially until 6:00 this morning. may have to be extended a little longer than that for gusts up near 40 miles per hour. temperatures back into the low and mid-30s, but windls so bundle up. it's a mostly clear sky, but a ferocious wind with very cold windchills this morning. a freezing start coming up for tomorrow morning. good news is the big travel day coming up tuesday night into wednesday, the weather will finally start to improve just a bit. but today will be a day spent shivering in the wind. more about the hourly temperatures coming up, but now

like it's now out of the way. this is eastbound 198 at van dusen road. but it looks like it has just cleared up. 66 here and 95, no worries. 270 southbound from frederick to the spur, going to take you 26 minutes. we'll take a live look at 66 coming up. back here at the live desk, we continue to follow the maryland. police now investigating a fatal shooting, this is out on deer field road. the victim is a man who died at the scene. police still gathering evidence. we'll continue to follow up. the strong winds chuck mentioned are responsible for downed trees and power lines. the wind is also a big concern this morning for firefighters.

stringtown road in damascus, this is yesterday. a barn caught fire there and the wind spread the flames into the woods. earlier on sunday, a wildfire caused major delays for drivers on i-95 in prince william county. right now the entire metro area is under fire warning. >> if you have ashes, make sure they're in a tight metal container away from anything mi. fire police ashes can retain so they can flare up an cause some big problems. >> the wind also caused thousands of power outages. here is a look at updated numbers. pepco is reporting justoff 140 outages in prince george's county and montgomery county. more than 400 are still without power in northern virginia. and g&e is reporting fewer than 40. president-elect donald trump has another full day of meetings today.
