>> unfortunately we start with really bad news j. a terrible school bus crash in tennessee. five children killed, more than two dozen injured. the bus driver was arrested overnight. this morning, the ntsb is sending a team of investigators to determine what exactly caused this accident. kerry is in chattanooga this morning. good morning. >> reporter: iis morning here. at least five young students were killed. in addition to that, six critically killed in the accident and others hospitalized and a total of 20 more taken to the hospital and released. there is a small growing memorial of flowers here as this investigation gets under way of one of the worst school bus

>> a school bus flipped off the roadway filled with children. they believe there is ejection. >> reporter: investigators looked for answers why would explain this school bus with 31 children on board smashed into a tree leaving behind a deadly mass of wreckage. >> i can see an arm moving but i don't know if anybody can get to it. >> we have arrested this driver of the school bus. >> reporter: late last the chief arrested the school bus driver, 24 years old. >> he is being charged with vehicular homicide, reckless endangerment and reckless driving. >> reporter: this morning witnesses described it with horror. >> i saw kids on the street and pulling them out of the bus. >> reporter: rescuers raced to the scene as rescuers for your

morning. officials all lifted all tsunami warnings following the 6.9 magnitude wake. it was an aftershock that caused the deadly tsunami and caused the meltdown of the fukushima power plant. officials issued the tsunami warning and urged immediate evacuations of 2,000 people. no major damage has been the state department is adviing citizens to beware of heightened terror attacks during the holiday season. credible information indicates isis and al qaeda militants are planning attacks in europe. the department is encouraing travelers to be cautious at holiday festivals and outdoor markets and uring americans to avoid large crowds and be vigilant visiting tourist spots

you feel like you're the only one who's been told that. >> it's surreal. not something i was thinking about. it wasn't on my radar at all. if it wasn't for this test we're going to talk about, i don't know if i would have had as easy a course of treatment or prognosis i did have. >> background here. you were 48 years old when you were diagnosed, no family history. >> right. >> no symptoms. >> there was cancer in my -- on prostate cancer. your primary care physician, not dr. shafer had been administering a primary test two years? >> he brought up this test and explained what it was and said it was a test to see. when the first one came in it was a little high. he said, i want to keep giing you this test every few months, four, five, six months, to see what happens. >> i hear that story, doctor, i say that is your best case

we all know it's controversial. why? >> it's controversial because prostate cancer, 1 in 7 will have it but not everybody who gets prostate cancer will die from it. we have to better identify those who have lethal or aggressive cancer to those who do not. >> what is the down side to testing? >> in my mind there is not a lot of downside to someone who knows ei it could lead additional biopsies that could cause additional anxiety. >> you opted for the removal of the prostate. there are other options. why did you fall on that option? >> because that's what my doctor recommended. dni your doctor. >> i am not a doctor. i talked to them and ted told me what he thought.

before i settled on ted. i didn't settle, by the way. >> thanks for that, ben. >> he offered a great deal. the thing is, it's whole new world. you have to educate yourself. that for me was learning what the options were. he told me what he thought the best course of treatment would be for the tumor that i had and i opted for the operation. >> we hear about this operation and the first thing a guy will tell you on the street or at a cot not doing that because there's all kinds of side effects, impotence and incontinence. what has the truth about it? >> there are side effects. when a man is confronted with cancer, it's important to understand what's the best treatment for them. men can have difficulty with your nation and sexual function after treatment for prostate cancer. not just isolated to surgery. today, what we do is try to do a better job recommending active

you if you had to deal with any of the side effects? >> yeah. but i'm doing good. all good. >> okay. >> we'll read between the thumbs. >> i settled for the right doctor. it's a real thing. when you're confronted with the question of, hey, do you want to live or do you want to make sure that your sex life is this best it can be. i opted for wanting to get rid of the cancer and see what happens. luckily, everyths >> we did a survey with dr. oz as this part of men's health. 59% of men we surveyed said they have not discussed the risks and benefits of screening for prostate cancer with their doctor. 54% said they don't know what a psa test even is. what would you say about that? >> that's an amazing stat and upsetting to me as a physician. that's what ben and i are trying

whether or not they should get tested for prostate cancer with their doctor. a personal decision. >> you waited a couple years before you came out and told our friend, howard, about this. clearly you must have a message for guys watching, not only in the month of november when we all get scruffy but every month of the year. >> yeah. please talk to your doctor about this, be aware. if it was up to me i would say every guy should get tested especially if you have a family history. the test itself is not harmful, what can happen after treatment and those questions. if i hadn't taken this test i wouldn't have known. i don't know when i would have known, until it probably became something that would not have the outcome in terms of the treatment it did have. >> okay. thanks for shaing the story and passing on the information. doctor, great to meet you. thank you very much.
