66 is okay. 95 northbound was wood bridge, people are leaving town. 95 in maryland, no major problems. an update on the travel times in ten minutes. and we are following breaking news in riverdale over a house fire in the city of riverdale. we are taking a live look from above. as we zoom into the house right here on the corner o know. a mother and a daughter were able to escape this early morning fire. at this point, we know that one of them is in critical condition. the mom suffering burns and smoke inhalation. she's in the hospital. the firefighters are taking a look at the scene from the ground, this is earlier pictures we have. firefighters from prince george's county at this time trying to contain the hot spots. but you can see at one point the smoke stretched high into the

caused the fire. check the nbc washington app for updates on this breaking story throughout the morning. now back to you. thank you. a gaithersburg family rattled from their beds when a car careened off the road into their home. you can see the dramatic scene play out here on kaymar way. justin finch is looking at the damage and knows how everybody is doing this morning. >> reporter: and still quite a we've got bricks and debris strewn about. look behind me here, you're going straight inside this home here where the car was overnight. firefighters are going to shore up this home with wood and other materials here. despite all this, the driver suffering non-life-threatening injuries. and three people inside were trapped upstars and had to be rescued from the second floor. we'll show you the scene moments after this crash, this is what montgomery county firefighters found just after 11:00 last night.

front wall of this gaithersburg home and plowed all the way inside. a two-story townhouse here after the 1900 block of keymar way. the county firefighters response team had to work to rescue the three adults who were trapped upstairs. and again, back live here, they had to shore up the front of this home here. it is still very much open inside there. and as you can see right here, the home has been deemed unsafe by county inspectors. no word on what to go into this home. again, three people had to be rescued. the driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries. back to you. thank you, justin. we have been warning you all week that this is expected to be the busiest thanksgiving fortravelers ever. according to aaa, 48 million americans will journey 50 miles or more this thanksgiving. if you are still planning to get out of town, leave before noon today.

sunday will be the next busiest travel day. everyone is heading home that day. at 6:30 we'll take a look at what is being done at local airports to keep security lines moving during this busy time. and if you ride metro, you can be thankful this holiday for no track work. metro won't start up the next safetrack surge until monday. that's when trains on the orange and silver lines will single track near east falls church and west falls church for 24 days. metro's problems may impact the purple light rail system before building even begins. a federal judge said metro's poor performance could impact ridership on the purple line. the judge also ordered the transit federal administration to conduct another environmental impact study for the project. that means a big delay in the project and possibly a bigger price tag. the construction was approved in 2014. and we are following a developing story out of southeast washington this morning where d.c. police are trying to figure out who killed a man at 22nd street and savannah place.

sometime before 9:30 last night. police have not released any suspect information. and five minutes after the hour, a special tribute today for the man known as d.c.'s mayor for life. the marion barry monument will be unveiled today at the congressional cemetery. barry's family formed a committee after his death to plan a tribute. at 10:00 this morning, they will unveil the monument marking the second anniversary of barry's death. barry died from a heart attack at 78 years old. andes trump could make new cabinet appointments as early as today. this morning there are reports that south carolina governor nikki haley has been chosen to be the u.s. ambassador to the united nations. haley is in the middle of her second term as governor and was praised for her handling of the charleston church shooting last year. haley was critical of trump during the primary and would need to be confirmed by the senate. meanwhile, the president-elect spoke with "the new york times" yesterday and he appeared to change his stance on several topics.

prosecuting hillary clinton. on that issue, trump said, quote, it's not something i feel very strongly about. he goes on to say, quote, i think it would be very, very divisive for the country. it is a special day for tator and tot. the president will officially pardon one of them at the white house. the past several years the pardon turkeys have been sent to the george whi live out their retirement. they are typically placed in a displaypen for a while before being moved out of view. >> and they go to live a life of luxury. >> you need to find frail turkeys for the pardon and put the plump ones somewhere else. >> they are pretty, though. new safety questions this morning about school buses after that deadly accident in

belts? >> and nbc's jeff rossen has more on the pros and cons of seat belts on school buses coming up at 7:00 a. and a charles county sheriff's deputy is suspended without pay and faces federal child pornography charges. investigators say 37-year-old alexander sullivan had more than 200pictures and five videos of child pornography on his cell phone. sullivan was arrested on monday and appeared before a federal judge yesterday. the judge ordered sullivan to wear an electronic monitoring children. and today parents will likely have to question school staff at the bethesda chevy chase high school. this is a day after five students became sick after taking what seems to be precipitation medicine. four students were taken to the hospital as a precaution and are expected to be okay. another student was picked up by a guardian. it is not known exactly what the students ingested. and the fbi has cleared brad

it was closing the case without filing charges. last week the l.a. department of children and family services cleared the actor. the allegations were tied to an incident involving pitt's son aboard a private jet back in september. after that incident, actress angelina jolie filed for divorce from pitt. and a pilot strike could affect those holiday gifts that you ordered, it could affect their arrival. pilots contracted to deliver amazon packages began to picket yesterday. transport services group. they are upset because the new contract with amazon is increasing the number of flights they are operating. the company and pilots are discussing new labor contracts. and now to some new information you'll see only on news4, d.c. public safety officials tell the news4 i-team's scott mcfarland repairs are being made to the fire system inside the district's biggest homeless shelter. they are expected to be completed in a month. the government memo obtained by

crews are monitoring a horse this morning that spent most of the day stuck in mud. volunteers used a front-end loader to help lift the large animal to safety. and a great white shark named yeti has been tracked swimming off the coast of virginia. a scientist says the female shark's tracking device was picked up there last thursday. look at that >> do you see the teeth? >> she was tagged in early october off the nantucket, massachusetts, coastline. this shark weighs in at 960 pounds. she's 11 feet long. >> whoa nelly! >> swim the other way, fast. if you are looking for the nearest catholic church, there's an app for that now. >> and the vatican just launched an app called the catholic app. catholics will soon be able to find a place to confess or

keep the area safe. and fairfax county police want you to take a good look at this sketch. this is the description of the man accused of showing pornography to two little girls in falls church earlier this month. the suspect drove up to the girls on locker place and tried to get them to watch the obscene video. police are still looking for the suspect. fairfax county police are also searching for this man who they say exposed himself to an 8-year-old boy inside a target store this happened last thursday night em. millions of workers won't be given extra holiday pay this year. under the rule workers would have been eligible for overtime if they made less than $47,000 a year. well, thanksgiving is a time for family and friends to feast. we know that.

justin cinch is live outside the home with what is going on there. justin? >> reporter: county inspectors deemed this home unsafe. and it is very clear why. look to my left here, a gaping hole where fire crews did show up, but you can see where the suv plowed through the first floor of this house. we'll take you now to some images from last night. this all happened about 11:00 p.m. yesterday at this two-story townhouse off 19000 block. the driver we are told suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital. but inside upstairs, three adults were trapped and did require assistance to be

brick and debris are everywhere. the three residents who were inside were unhurt. the driver also suffering non-life-threatening injuries. at this time, we don't know what caused this crash. back in to you. >> justin finch live in gaithersburg, thank you. this morning we are learning new details in the deadly bus crash in tennessee. the driver, 24-year-old johnthony walker is in jail charged with five counts of vehicular homicide. kery kerry, good morning. >> reporter: well, good morning, eun. johnthony walker was hired by a company in illinois to drive the bus here because they outsource for all the hiring here. now is the investigation of this 24-year-old school bus driver, not only was his license

involved in an accident. there were no injuries, but nonetheless he sideswiped another car. and there were questions about whether there were indications of sort of the inability to drive such a large vehicle, maybe some carelessness. the authorities are focusing on, in this accident, traveling at an excessive control of the vehicle. that's part of the investigation. meantime, i'm at the hospital where 12 children remain, 6 of those who were in the accident that are still in intensive care. some of the parents here have

that's an extra 100 plane loads of people just on top of what is always hardly any room. do everybody a favor, don't carry as much on the plane. pack as much as you can and carry on as little as possible. that makes everybody's life easier in the boarding and unboarding process. the skies are clear and it is cold. the suburbs are in the 20s this morning. unsettled weather from the grea through the mississippi river valley down to the gulf coast. so houston, memphis, st. louis, chicago, detroit, minneapolis, could be impacted by rain drops for the flights going out today. these rain drops near cincinnati now will be arriving here. if not during the daylight hours, probably mid to late evening into the overnight hours tonight. so today really won't be an issue driving the 95 corridor northbound toward philadelphia
