sunday will be the next busiest travel day. everyone is heading home that day. at 6:30 we'll take a look at what is being done at local airports to keep security lines moving during this busy time. and if you ride metro, you can be thankful this holiday for no track work. metro won't start up the next safetrack surge until monday. that's when trains on the orange and silver lines will single track near east falls church and west falls church for 24 days. metro's problems may impact the purple light rail system before building even begins. a federal judge said metro's poor performance could impact ridership on the purple line. the judge also ordered the transit federal administration to conduct another environmental impact study for the project. that means a big delay in the project and possibly a bigger price tag. the construction was approved in 2014. and we are following a developing story out of southeast washington this morning where d.c. police are trying to figure out who killed a man at 22nd street and savannah place.

sometime before 9:30 last night. police have not released any suspect information. and five minutes after the hour, a special tribute today for the man known as d.c.'s mayor for life. the marion barry monument will be unveiled today at the congressional cemetery. barry's family formed a committee after his death to plan a tribute. at 10:00 this morning, they will unveil the monument marking the second anniversary of barry's death. barry died from a heart attack at 78 years old. andes trump could make new cabinet appointments as early as today. this morning there are reports that south carolina governor nikki haley has been chosen to be the u.s. ambassador to the united nations. haley is in the middle of her second term as governor and was praised for her handling of the charleston church shooting last year. haley was critical of trump during the primary and would need to be confirmed by the senate. meanwhile, the president-elect spoke with "the new york times" yesterday and he appeared to change his stance on several topics.

involved in an accident. there were no injuries, but nonetheless he sideswiped another car. and there were questions about whether there were indications of sort of the inability to drive such a large vehicle, maybe some carelessness. the authorities are focusing on, in this accident, traveling at an excessive control of the vehicle. that's part of the investigation. meantime, i'm at the hospital where 12 children remain, 6 of those who were in the accident that are still in intensive care. some of the parents here have
