that is the good news. terrifying start to the thanksgiving holiday for baltimore bound passengers. a man threatened to blow up a plane mid air. . southwest airlines flight was supposed to fly from oakland, california to baltimore tuesday afternoon. 32 year old arpan shah told passengers he he planned to blow up the plane. after hearing the threat pilot returned to the gate because of >> no, it's not like that. half hour delay. that's why he went to the bar and he was thinking beer. >> shah will be in court on monday and explosive detection teams swept the plane and they didn't find anything. >> right now a great washington tradition is continuing with the help of hundreds of volunteers. food and friends will handout thousands of meals this morning to people with life challenging

this all comes together. so many volunteers with such a great effort, megan. >> reporter: yes, it wouldn't be possible without all of the volunteers. and you can see them. they're amazing. talk about efficient, they've got this assembly line going. they actually are about halfway through assembling all of the meals that are going to then go out for delivery to folks who otherwise aren't feeling up to cooking. they're battling a life-threatening diseases and cooking a thanksgiving feast as we all know is a lot of with food and friends, they're going to get everything they need delivered right there to their door. i'm joined by mark low craft, the executive chef here. talk a little bit about it. they don't need to cook anything, just heat it up. >> just heat it up. you know, it's a roasted turkey about 12 pound turkey and all of the fixings you can imagine. all the sides, fresh fruit, apple pie, pumpkin pie. and it's great. you know, we have the best volunteers in the world.

host themselves and a special day for all of us. it's nice. >> reporter: that's an important part of this. thanksgiving is a social holiday. you're supposed to be with family and friend. this is enough to feed family and friends. >> it is. we're cranking out this morning. we started about 4:00. we're halfway through wrapping the turkeys. the next couple of shifts of volunteers will pack them up with all the trimings and we'll send them out. >> how long did it take to plan month out and deliveries come in and we start cooking the turkeys first thing monday morning 4:00 in the morning, so. >> reporter: all right. it looks fan thask. everything looks wonderful and boy are they making progress. we're going to talk to a volunteer coming up a little later in the show and hear why they want to be a part of all this. it really is an amazing program. back to you guys. >> indeed, working hard. megan, thanks so much. we want know what you're thankful for this thanksgiving. send us your pictures explaining what you're thankful for this

effort to diversify his cabinet by picking two prominent republican women including south carolina governor nikki haley to serve as ambassador to the u.n. haley is a rising star in the republican party and was a fierce critic of trump during the party. she acknowledged that she voted for him. >> i did vote for him. and i was absolutely thrilled to see him win. >> betsy dev os was chosen as education secretary. far. >> developing this morning 67 people died after a platform of a power plant collapsed in china. one person is still missing. two others are being transported to the hospital. the area where the collapse happened this morning was under construction. now, according to local media, at least 70 people were on-site when that tower came crashing down. yikes. >> we know that the community is

gathered at a church in tennessee last night to remember the victims in that deadly school bus crash. it was held at the free to worship church. people prayed for those who died and the children who remain in the hospital. and police say that a sixth child has died after that school bus crash. officials are adding another vehicular homicide charge to the bus driver, 24 year old john walker. investigators trying to figure out why walker left his normal route. or alcohol in his system when that happened. >> this is a story you'll see on news 4. one man is giving thanks for surviving a terrible crash. you have to see this video. quin burrow said his day started out as any other day. he what on his way to work just before 8:00 when suddenly a tractor-trailer fell over and landed right on top of his car. >> family here, my parents are coming down and it's going to be

to be ambassador to the united nations. congressman mike will be cia and betsy devos will be the education secretary. hillary clinton's lead over donald trump has exceeded 2 million votes. that is according to the cook political report. this comes as green party presidential nominee jill stein has appeared to have reached her initial fund-raising goal to call for a recount in three key states. a group of political experts called on the clinton campaign to request a recount after finding what they call in wisconsin, niche niche and pennsylvania may have been hacked. >> happening today, a thanksgiving tradition. the 90th macy's thanksgiving day parade gets underway in just about three hours from now. nbc's jay gray is live along the parade route in new york city. jay, are the balloons behaving? the wind is not kicking them up and into the sky yet this morning? >> adam, they seem to be behaving. not a lot of wind here which is

floats are lined up. in fact, let's show you the lead float in this year's parade. of course, what would you expect to lead the thanksgiving day parade but tom turkey and that's who will be leading it just as he does every year. the floats, again, as i talked about, getting lined up, more than two dozen and ready to roll. the stars of this show, though, are those giant balloons that we talk about. 16 in this year's parade. they have pilots, ranglers, 50 to 100 to guide them. they're practicing. the balloons just behind me, the two macy's stars, and just beyond that, you can see the bolt head of charlie brown. charlie brown back in the parade for the first time in a long time, one of the new balloons this year. we'll have marching band from across the country, more than a thousand clowns, should be a great start to what will be a wonderful thanksgiving. adam, i hope you and everyone at home enjoy yours.
