of arbitrarily assigning that population into that population and that was called mandatory inclusion and that put people back into the regular screening. >> and they stopped using things like this, using ipad that randomly picked people for precheck but they have been using other methods of moving other passengers into precheck lanes in an effort to reduce long lines. the way it works now, tsa takes the information you get your travel ticket and they look at your previous travel history and bought the ticket and people deemed a low risk are given a precheck on the boarding pass but that is not the same comprehensive background check on members. >> and some say letting people use precheck without complete vetting may not be the best thing. >> in an ideal world, you would not. if we had the ideal situation here, we would not.
5:47 pm

5:48 pm
>> former assistant tsa administrator tom blank said moving some passengers to precheck may be necessary to reduce long lines, which can also become a target for terrorists. >> i think it is a balancing kind of a thing. and i don't think you'll find that tsa ever guaranteed that precheck line for precheck passengers only. >> but some precheck members complain all of those nonmembers slowdown the fast lane because they don't know to leave their shoes on and laptops and liquids in bags in the people that have experience with it and it just messes everything up. >> with a battle over convenience, security and who belongs in the fast lane. >> there is sometimes resentment, going, i paid $80 and went through a big back ground check and had to take time out of my day to be in line and you just got over here for whatever random reason you were chosen. >> now tsa admits, when the lines get long there are times
5:49 pm
without any information about those passengers, but in those cases the tsa said it brings in bomb-sniffing dogs for an extra level of screening. you know, i flew out yesterday, flew back today and i was put in one of those precheck lines. i kept my shoes on. they didn't bring the dogs out for me so it was kind of easy. >> get what people are saying that paid the money and people like us come along who didn't. but i'll tell you, when you get that little precheck, it is like -- bonus. >> it is. >> all right. >> holidays, christmas music playing outside of the white house this morning, look at that. it is beautiful. the official christmas tree arrived via horse-drawn carriage. the first lady welcomed its arrival and took pictures with the owners of whispering pines, that is the farm in wisconsin that provided the 19 foot fir. the tree will be set up in the blue room. members of the military have been invited to an unveiling ceremony at the white house on tuesday.
