news4miday begins with breaking news. >> the breaking news coming out of ohio state university. >> let's go straight to news4's melissa mollet at >> take a look at the video we just got in. a breaking news situation, ohio state university, a report of an active shooter on the campus. so far what we know is that seven people have been transported to hospital, no word on the full extent or how they were injured. we've been looking at ohio state's twitter page. it had been retweeting posts from osu emergency management this morning. one tweet saying buckeye alert.

and college, the engineering building. dozens of police and fire units on the scene. the school just tweeted out a couple of minutes ago, something that said continue to shelter in place. now ohio state there in columbus, has about 65,000 students enrolled. right now we know the fbi, columbus police and osu police are leading this investigation and that active shooter response we'll be back in a couple more minutes, we'll be back in a couple more minutes with an update. that alerted police to a woman found unresponsive in the 8400 block of diablo court in the alexandria area of fairfax county. police are now searching for the perp who killed that woman. news4's justin fancher is live at the scene with more about what he's learned about the victim. good morning. >> good morning, still an active investigation. police had a canine unit here earlier and have cordened off

a suspect is described as a heavy-set man last seen leaving the scene wearing dark clothing. along brevard court, a homicide investigation, one that began before sunrise monday, in this mount vernon neighborhood. >> this worng when i woke up, i see all this stuff. i saw the helicopter. >> meantime, fairfax county police were searching for a suspect wanted in the death of a woman found dead on the roadway. of the 8400 block of court and reported to have suffered stab wounds. >> it looks like a citizen heard screaming, when they looked outside, they saw the woman laying on the ground. >> close to 5:00 a.m., police say a neighbor heard screams and called 911. officers arrived to the townhouse-lined block and found the victim, who died a short time later. [ speaking spanish ] >> in spanish, this man tells news4 he knows the victim.

who leaves behind two older children and one younger son. >> and looking live, fairfax county police remaining on this, continuing to investigate this death. police have not positively identified the victim at this time. but they do tell us they believe this attack was not random and they're asking anyone who knows anything to bring that information forward. back in to you. >> i'm melissa mollet at the live desk with more information here this morning about something else happening now to metro rail. we're talking about hours, adam tuss has been tweeting that metro staff is going to be recommending cutting the rail hours, closing at 1:00 a.m. there on the weekends and 11:30 p.m. on weekdays. to have the line open at 8:00 a.m. on sunday. say they need more time for repairs and maintenance, metro does say they're thinking about lost rail service with buses.

shot and killed a person on howard, a man on howard road near anacostia park in southeast. the victim hasn't been identified, hours earlier, a man was shot and killed on l street in southeast. the victim was identified as anthony young in that case. a woman was also shot, is expected to be okay. police say the victims and suspects knew each other. the d.c. police are searching for whoever shot and killed 16-year-old brianna mcmillan friday. the community held a vigil last night for the teen they say had so much life to live. >> i'm heartbroken because she had so much promise and just even the term of at risk youth. she wasn't an at risk child. she was an at promise child. >> police say they're looking for one gunman and they don't believe brianna was the intended target. tonight's meeting to address the

prince george's county police just telling us now that this missing 12-year-old girl, aliyeah williams has been found. they tweeted the information in the last hour. detectives say she was last seen on rock quarry terrace in district heights, police asked for a lookout for her. this just into our news room, she's been found. in frederick county, maryland, a man is facing indecent exposure charges, police say they arrested rll woman in his car and touched himself in front of her. it happened near the intersection of elmer durr road. police say in the past he's been arrested on similar charges. this morning d.c. police are looking for two men who robbed a postal worker at gun point ott second and adams street in northeast washington. the postal worker say the men pistol-whipped, punched and kicked him.

no word on the full extent of their injuries. we know 65,000 students go to that school. the fbi is involved, columbus police department, osu police as well. a witness just a short time ago told msnbc that she saw a car swerve into a crowd of people and that some of these people were injured that way. we're trying to get more information on that. also a short time ago, saw two people coming out of one of these halls in what appeared to be handcuffs, have no idea how they are rel situation. ohio state's official twitter page has been retweeting posts from osu emergency management, one of them saying buckeye alert, active shooter on campus, run, hide, fight, watts hall, 19th and college. watts hall is a materials science and engineering building. we're following this as it is developing. the school has not tweeted in about 40 minutes now. still telling people just to shelter in place. and just in time for the

fidel castro, u.s. airlines are making regularly scheduled flights to havana. an american airlines flight took off from the cuban capital this morning from miami. it becomes the first commercial carrier to run a regular trip to havana. this comes after renewed diplomatic relations between the island nation and the u.s. meanwhile in cuba, mourners are paying their final respects to the former revolutionary leader. thousands of people have been lining up to see fidel castro's remains during this week of his funeral service is set for this sunday. nbc's jay gray explains what's next for life in cuba after castro. >> hidden along this narrow street in old havana, inside this modest, but well-kept home, roger reflects on a new cuba. without fidel castro. >> translator: the loss of fidel castro has two faces.

take a look at the tornado that left some farm buildings in southeast nebraska damaged. the national weather service says the tornado ripped through the area around 4:30 yesterday afternoon. this footage of it was captured in red cloud, which is south of hastings, near the kansas state border. no homes were damaged. but power lines were knocked down. >> that's some dramatic video right there. we're in much need for some rain, chuck bell. zbrt very fact, the unusual nature that can of severe weather that far north this late in the season promises to bring us much-needed rainfall. even though it's raining, we'll be ten to 15 degrees warmer than average for tuesday's and wednesday's rain chance. outside right now, it's cloudy and the clouds continue to lower and thicken through the day. we need the rain, we're more than six inches behind in rainfall since september 1st. last time we had a heavy rain day, more than an inch of rain on a single day was on august

live desk, an update on the situation, an active shooter situation they've been calling it at ohio state university. in columbus, ohio. right now, news4 in columbus is reporting that the suspect is dead and nine people have been hurt and two others in custody. that's not been independently confirmed by nbc news, we're working to do that now. we know at least seven people have been transported to area hospitals there. just getting a new tweet handed order has been lifted, all classes canceled on the columbus campus for the remainder of the day. again an active shooter situation here this morning. earlier the school tweeting out run, hide fight, watts hall, 19th and college, watts hall, material science and engineering building. lots of crews on the scene. it sounds like things are now clearing out, shelter in place lifted, scene is now secure.

management. >> melissa, thank you. president-elect donald trump is focused on the u.s. relationship with cuba this morning. he tweeted that he would terminate president obama's deal with cuba if the cuban people were not treated better. but is trump's tweets about illegal voters, the tweets that are in the headlines this morning about illegal voters. here to talk about trump's allegations is nbc's senior political repo if you deduct the millions of votes that were done illegally. has his team come up with any reason for saying that? >> they don't have a really good answer at all. it is important to note that that claim that there were millions of people who voted illegally? that's absolutely false. there's no substantiation behind that claim. as it turns out right now, donald trump was the fair and square winner of the presidential election.

retailers are paying close attention to what people are spending. >> americans spent less over the holiday weekend amid a flood of discounts, the national retail federation says that consumers spent an average of $289 since thanksgiving. that's down 3.5% from a year ago. more people shopped, 154 million. but many did so from home. there was a 4% increase in the number of people who bought online. the next test for retailers, predicted to hit 3.5 billion today. but analysts question whether consumers will spend today, as many stores including target, amazon and walmart have been rolling out online holiday deals over the past month. for the cnbc business report, i'm landon downey. despite early sales, there are deals to be found today, news4's angie goff has some hot deals and apps.
