developing story from the south pole. you may have already seen this on social media. buzz aldrin has been medically evacuated. aldrin is 86 years old. he's in the care of an american doctor and is said to be in stable condition. and happening now, a wayne state university police officer killed in the line of 29-year-old colin rose was shot and killed last week at the university as he approached a suspect on a bicycle. police arrested and charged 31-year-old davis of first degree murder of a police officer and of a gun crime. another gunman aused of killing a police officer is now dead and two children are safe. pris in tacoma, washington said they killed the support.

v-v senator tim kaine is wasting no time getting back to work after spending months on the campaign trail. he sat down to talk about his experience running for vice pde amazing experience. 105 days. my wife and i campaigned full time. we did 950 events between us, i went to 40 states, about 140 cities. a lot of really amazing experience, a lot of wonderful people. i was really proud of how virginia did during the election. we won virginia by more than president obama did four years ago. popular vote we're going to win by millions of votes. but that's not the same as a win.

with that. but i've been a happy senator. i love my job in the senate partly because of the committees i'm on. working in armed services is meaningful. a good way to deal with the disappointment is go back to work. i was back to work the week after the election. i introduced a bill with marco rubio to combat antisemitism and i'm back there doing the job. a little but very energized. >> we know that the jill stein campaign asked for a recount a couple of places. the wisconsin recount will start today. are you hopeful or thinking that that might create some sort of change? >> you know, i have no real expectation that it would change the ultimate outcome. you're going to see potentially some changes in the votes. but it is important that it be done. >> so as you said, you're right

we know you're coming into a situation where you've got the white house, congress and presumably the supreme court all going to be conservative. what's the priority for tim kaine over the next couple of years? >> in the senate most of my work is in armed services, foreign relations. there's no state more militarily connected than virginia. as an example, just yesterday we completed work on the bill that i work on every year, the national defense authorizing act. we had done the senate version of it in the spring with the house and reached an accord. i signed the conference report yesterday. it's going up for a vote in the house this week and the senate next week. there were significant cuts in headquarters. we were able to reduce those cuts and get a pay increase for military. i'm happy about that. there was a proposal to eliminate a housing allowance for dual military couples. we got that out of the bill

this is the things i work the most on which is battling to make sure that we're defending the nation the right way and investing in priorities that will keep us safe. i'm one of two senators that have a child in the mail tear. this is important to virginia but it's important to me as a blue star dad. >> farther out in if future, are you going to run for president? >> i'm a religious person. things happen for a reason. one of my interpretations of this whole thing is, you know, i have a really important role t to play as long as the voters and my wife and my health will allow me to. that's what i'm going to do. i'm adopted john warner as my friend, a good friend, republican, served for 30 years and increasingly on armed services matter he used his increasing expertise for the good of the country and commonwealth. that's how i'm looking at my public service career now. >> and senator kaine will face

covering prince george's county, we wear working with speak with a councilman who's been charged with dui. he was charged after he crashed into the back of a back last monday. two people in the other car were taken to the hospital. according to records in both october and december of 2012, franklin had accidents in two other country cars. the county has not taken away his access to county vehicles. franklin represents distr food violations have closed the safeway in adams morgan indefinitely. the d.c. department of health ordered the immediate closure. safeway sent a statement saying in part, we're working closely with the d.c. department of health to resolve the issue. we hope to reopen the store as soon as possible, end quote.
