want to check in with storm team 4 meteorologist lauryn ricketts on this beautiful friday afternoon. >> awe fridays are beautiful, huh? >> yes, barbara, 1,000% right on that one. we finally made it it is friday and it is a gorgeous one as you guys were saying. look at it out there, just absolutely beautiful. clear skies, and we do have some portions of our area that have a few more clouds. but all in all, not a lot to complain about. maybe you're complaining about the wind. that's about it. i went ahead with a mix of sun and clouds only because we do have some folks that are seeing a little bit of cloud cover. but that's the wind, cutting right through you, making it feel like we're in the 40s. as we continue through the day, the temperatures are going to rise, we'll be in the mid 50s in some spots throughout the afternoon. once the sun goes down we start to drop. the winds will stay with us overnight it looks like it will be a brisk and blustery day for your saturday. could we have any rain for the

that federal support for metro is commensurate to its fundamental reliance on the system. as federal stakeholders, i think our organizing principles should be the fate yur of metro cannot be an option. >> so the hearing is still going on, our mark segraves is there and he's been tweeting from the room. he tweeted that representative mark meadows from north carolina, lashed out at the fda saying how many people have to the fta being the federal transit administration. follow mark's tweets and follow our nbc washington app. we'll have updates throughout the day. meanwhile, a proposal to cut metro hours remains unresolved, despite a committee vote yesterday. the committee voted to slash service hours for two full years to allow more time for safety repairs. the proposed cuts would end

and 11:00 p.m. on sunday that would start in the summer. metro board chairman jack evans, who represents d.c., says the district is compromised enough and would only sign off on the changes for one year. >> it's not a threat, mr. goldman, it is what i, it is no -- [ inaudible ] >> it is the position of the district of colombia. we believe we've compromised enormously. for someone to say we need to compromise more is not realistic approach to this problem. >> as a full board votes in two weeks, and they could veto that plan completely. developing this morning, we're working to learn the name of a man who was killed in a crash on the beltway last night we first told you about this as breaking news on news4 at 11:00. the four-car crash shut down the outer loop in springfield and now we know a mans with ejected and died in the crash. three other people were hurt. treated and released.

grand opening of the mgm national harbor. the resort is going to attract a lot of people and bringing in a lot of business. news4's megan mcgrath is outside with more. >> december the 8th, that's the big day, the grand opening of mgm national harbor. if you look behind me, you can see the tower that you're looking at right here is the hotel portion of this development. and things seem to really be coming together here as you away from the opening, a lot of act tist. take look at the video we shot a little while ago, we saw workers all over the property, workers on the roof. we saw folks dangling from the roof. actually washing the windows, we see landscapers putting down sod and mulch. putting the finishing touches on the $1.4 billion casino and hotel. earlier this morning i went into the lobby very briefly.

seen running away from the scene after a shooting. police didn't have any specific suspects or information for us. this morning we're working to learn when the man accused of setting his girlfriend on fire will be expedited to fairfax county. police arrested lewis reader near richmond last night. he was caught just hours after dolores williams died. reader is accused of setting williams on fire inside their fairfax county home. this happened last month after an argument. he's been on the run of the police say a citizen's tip helped track him down. d.c. police have released new photos of two persons of interest in the assault and robbery of a postal worker. police believe the two men seen here may be involved. or know something about the crime. investigators say the mail carrier was attacked by these two men wearing macks while out on his route last saturday evening in northwest d.c. one of them pointed a gun at his head and made him lie on the ground. after violently assaulting the

the suspects stole his personal items. today marks one year since 14 people died while attending a work holiday party in san bernardino, california. sayid farook and his wife pashveen killed 11 people. they were later killed in a shootout with police. there will be several events today to employees will hold a moment of silence at the time of the attacks. police will hold a 14-mile memorial bicycle ride. president-elect donald trump is traveling the country now. he said he wouldn't announce any new cabinet picks until next week. but he let a new one slip last night. nbc's tracie potts tells us about the implications of his latest choice.

but other than that, i mean it's not going to be that bad. temperatures in the shenandoah valley. still in the 40s. here in d.c. we get up to 51 degrees, 49 in clinton. 46 in gaithersburg. just a touch cooler with the wind. because we've got winds out of the west at about 10-20 miles per hour. higher gusts, saw one at 30 miles per hour. so it will feel a little cooler than the actual air temperature. temperatures top out in the low possibly mid 50s throughout the day. we'll fall to the 40s tonight. if you're headed out going to be breezy. but it's going to be nice, clear skies, looking good. getting into saturday and morning and saturday evening, still breezy, the winds will calm down after i would say late afternoon through about early evening tomorrow. by sunday we've got maybe a few sprinkles, just a few. a lot of things going on this weekend. we've got the candy cane dash, jingle on the lake in reston.

"the adventures of huckleberry finn" are classic novels, but one virginia school system is considering barring them. not everyone in the community agrees, the complaint will now go before a committee, who will review the books and make a final recommendation. so far there's no set timetable for that process. we want to know what you think about this issue. our own aaron gilchrest posted a poll on on whether or not you think the books should be pulled from the classroom. the bureau of labor statistics released job numbers for the month of november and they show the unemployment rate fell from 4.6%, from 4.9% in october. employers added 178,000 jobs in health care, professional and business services. cnbc's landon downey has a look at the rest of the business headlines. >> shares of starbucks fell about 4% last night.

the 2016 metro cooking d.c. show happens this weekend, at the walter e. washington convention center and it's set to be one of the best ever we're hearing. joining us to giveus of what's happening on the james beard stage is award-winning pastry chef at the 2941 pastry chef in false church. what are you going to make for us? >> i'm going to show you how to make the noel, the demonstration i'll be giving sunday at the metro convention center, 11:00 a.m. on sunday.

>> lots of chefs there. >> award-winning chefs will be there. let's get started with what you're going to make. >> the first part is just a flourless chocolate cake, a simple recipe of just egg whites. >> eggwhites. >> egg whites and sugar. just beat those together. we do it in a mixer at home or with a hand mixer or -- >> do you have fluff the egg whites. >> make a nice meringue. nice and stiff. and then just two more ingredients, he egg yolks and the cocoa powder. it's flourless, no gluten in here. >> and then you put it in and bake it? >> you'll have a cake batter that looks like this, it's a nice, rich chocolate cake. you spread it out thin on one cookie sheet. it's good to use a silicone

end up with a nice even layer and now we're going to roll it up. >> using the parchment paper helps to you take it out. >> the parchment paper you can also use a clean kitchen towel that can help you to roll. you want it underneath your cake. flavors, whatever you like. today i have whatever butter cream or frosting that you like. this is a white chocolate peppermint buttercream. >> this is frosting. if you want to give me a hand spreading that this? >> then we roll it up. >> i have another spatula. >> let's get it done. i want to see you roll it i can't imagine what that's going to look like. we'll get it all down. make a thin layer? >> just nice and even. you start away from you or in front of you. we'll start this direction. use the paper.
