tom? we got over an inch of rain. that's the first time we have gotten that much rain since way back on september 29th. and the roads are still a little damp. there's a live view from the tower camera zoomed in on some of the roads in northwest washington. traffic is moving along smoothly as we are gradually drying out this morning. storm team 4 radar not showing anymore rain or snow. we did get wet snow out of the mountains, but all of it has ended and is pulling off to the east. just a few lingering showers on the eastern shore away. low clouds over much of the region. it will take another few hours before the cloud cover breaks up. we'll get sunshine breaking out. we're in the mid to upper 30s in shenandoah valley. nearby suburbs, prince george's county, low 40s. upper 40s near montgomery county, much of arlington and fairfax near 40. as is the rest of virginia. right by the way, we are in the mid-40s. and hour by hour as we get into the afternoon hours, we'll be climbing into the upper 40s late

a look at your commuter forecast for the rest of the day, that is coming up in ten minutes.elissa problems. this is outer loop at connecticut. and there's also another problem before that as you're approaching this slowdown here. again, also on the left side of the roadway. so right now you're seeing extra slowdowns here on the top of the beltway. thank you for that, chopper 4. you can see both there in one foul swoop. 70 at 270 we have a crash in the left lane. and inbound florida there's a crash in the right lane. and inbound 66 at sudley road, the backups are building pretty quickly here. the tow truck just got on the scene. i also have a problem just reported inbound 66 before lee highway. a crash there blocking the center lane as well. we'll have travel times for you

6:02 and d.c. police want to know whether there are more victims after a woman says she was sexually assaulted inside united medical center. >> and police have arrested a hospital employee who denied the allegations. news4's justin finch is live at police headquarters with more on what the suspect is saying. justin, good morning. >> reporter: eun, good morning. police are looking into this case very closely. however, news4 did speak with a hospital staffer at the center of all of this. and he tells the allegations are not true. this all reportedly began last sunday morning at united medical center in southeast washington. that's when and where a patient says 51-year-old premarco simone sexually assaulted her while she was being treated. simone is now charged with second-degree sexual abuse.

crews are working or were working overnight to fix it. this is the area north of virginia gateway that will be impacted over the next 48 hours. everything in red, you need to boil your tap water for drinking or cooking. and prince william county schools are open. you want to know this, kids should bring extra bottled water if they attend battlefield middle school, buckland mills, haymarket, mountain view and tyler elementary. we'll have more on this developing story, stay with news4. >> thank you, angie. we are getting a clearer picture of an incident that sent four people to the hospital in fairfax county. three of the victims were women and one was a girl whose age has not been released. police say a fight began around 5:00 yesterday evening in the

annandale. two women were shot. they are in stable condition. police have recovered the gun. and comet is reopening on friday. more than 1,000 people plan to eat at the pizzaria. a man entered the place on sunday and fired a weapon. he said he was there to look into a story of no one was hurt and the owner is overwhelmed by the community's help. >> i would like to say that we have been completely overwhelmed and incredibly, incredibly touched by this support of our community here in washington and around the world. >> welsh now faces felony charges and is due back in court tomorrow. here's a look at the headlines in donald trump's transition today.

take a look at a couple problems on the past couple of minutes. we'll figure out what is going on there, but we have big backups on the top of the beltway from several problems. one is the outer loop near connecticut avenue. now we are seeing slowdowns there headed out on the outer loop. 66 east at sudley road, we have the crash in the middle of the roadway. it's still hanging around causing a two-mile backup there. 66 inbound not bad from fairfax county parkway to the beltway. 95 north quantico to the beltway

temperatures are cold. we're just in the mid to upper 30s. we have a few sprinkles on the eastern shore pulling away. turning much colder for the end of the weekend. we'll have a look at that coming up in ten minutes. and the man accused of a massacre inside a church in south carolina will be in court today. dylann roof's federal trial starts today with jury in this case. and in prince william count tip, a boil water order is in place. schools are open but students should bring extra bottled water for personal use. and president-elect donald trump formally nominated retired general james mattis for secretary of defense. mattis has been retired for only three years and needs a congressional waiver to lead the pentagon.

in a dramatic protest. this is new video of people coming together against a white nationalist. protesters crowded the protest before the speech was made last night. >> i knew that we needed to have a new starting point. and i also new that we needed to -- this wasn't a matter just this is really a new beginning of a new starting point for conservatism. >> in addition to the protests outside, some people in the audience heckled and criticized spencer as well. texas a&m administrators wouldn't let anyone define what the school stands for. we have new video into the

rocked indonesia. this quake has killed 97 people so far. given the northern part of the country, you can see there's essex tensive damage, extensive damage. 12 mosques have been damaged or destroyed. we just heard from disaster and native officials who also say they do expect the death toll to continue to rise. and they are continuing to search for the missing now back to you. angie goff, thank you. and it is 6:15, oakland officials declared a local state of emergency following the deadly warehouse fire. officials have identified 35 of the 36 victims killed. they say they don't believe the death toll will rise at this point. investigators are looking at whether a refrigerator or electric appliance sparked the fire during the dance party. and now we're getting a look inside the warehouse from before the fire.

hour before the plane broke out on friday. many think the dry conditions fueled the fire and many died from smoke inhalation. and the 1994 heisman trophy winner has died at the age of 42. according to "the washington post," police told the family it appears to be suicide. he was an outstanding after entering the nfl draft, he was chosen in the first round by the chicago bears. he also played briefly for the cleveland browns in 1999. and there will be stepped up patrols at gus stops -- at bus stops. a girl said a man came from behind her, told her to shut up and he tried to put a black bag over her head.

ran off. and police tried to pull over a driver for dui. take a look at the video up close here, the driver came dangerously close to hitting somebody on a bike. during that hour-long chase, the driver lost its tire causing smoke and a stream of sparks. driver. it is not clear if anyone was injured in the chase. covering prince george's county now, one citizens group is asking the council members to step down after a recent dui arrest. mel franklin was at the first meeting dins november. he is charged with dui.

the low 50s. by 6:00 p.m., down into the 40s. getting clear again by 10:00 tonight. right back down to around 40 degrees. and then by dawn on thursday, we'll be in the upper 30s. afternoon highs in the upper 40s with lots of clouds coming and. temperatures will only be near 30 in the morning, afternoon highs near 40. the winds could be gusting over the windchill will go up. then as we finish out the weekend, we'll be milder with highs in the lower 20s.

we begin with breaking news on a deadly accident. >> we are just getting details. melissa? >> we have been talking about this crash eastbound 70 at 270. you can see this line of traffic. we have a two-mile backup with only one lane open. the left lane fatal crash. we'll have more details on that one in just a moment. a lot of other things happening as well, southbound 27 there in north damascus blocked at 80. a crash there with police on the scene there as well. earlier problem top of the beltway outer loop we have been talking about with chopper 4 a short time ago, still hanging around. top of the beltway still slow. the crash is at the outer loop

details on this. the latest development just coming in over the last five minutes or so where state troopers tell us this happened about an hour ago. and they have confirmed that one fatality is there. at this point we don't know if it's a man or a woman. details are very light, but we do know the collision involved several vehicles. we don't have an exact count on how many, but it happened on the ramp eastbound i-70 to southbound 270 mentioned, as melissa mentioned. this could be out there for quite some time, so an alternate route is probably a great idea. we'll continue to keep you posted in the news4 app. stay with nbc washington.

to the pavement still wet from the rain we had yesterday. but four things to know heading into the weekend, drying out into the afternoon. then a chilly thursday. and windy and much colder on friday. windchills on friday may only be in the 20s. that could be followed by a cold and dry weekend. right now just some low clouds, a little bit of fog hanging over much of the region. the last of the rain is exited the eastern shore. and hour by hour into the afternoon will hover near 40 degrees until 9:00 this morning. afteth then climbing to the low 50s by mid-afternoon. your what to wear forecast is coming up in about ten minutes. tom, thank you. 6:33 as we follow breaking news in prince william county where a boil water advisory is in place for the haymarket area. this is all because of a water main break near route 29. >> the advisory will stay in place for 48 hours. so crews can test the water.

kids to school. adam, good morning. >> reporter: we'll take a look at where we are here in kind of an industrial area. crews obviously got out here last night and made some quick fixes to what was a pretty substantial water main break. and you can see that these orange barrels kind of line this whole industrial complex right here all the way out to 29 university boulevard here at wellington drive. that's the area that we're in. if you are familiar with this area, it is right near jiffy lube. if you are drinking tap water in this area or using tap water for anything, you need to boil it for at least a minute until officials give you the all clear. you guys mentioned it will be about 48 hours before everything is back to normal. a handful of schools, about 10 to 12 schools are impacted by this because they are not going

traffic, major problem in frederick county with chopper 4 on the way there. we'll take a look at the map to show you this deadly accident on i-70 on to southbound 270. right now only the left lane gets by the crash eastbound on 70. the ramp to southbound 270 is shut down right now. that is why this is totally green. we never see that green at this time of day. you can access southbound 70 only right now from 85 which comes right through this area. that's where the traffic starts to pick chopper 4 should be there in a couple minutes to take a live look. thank you, melissa. at 6:45 a woman who went to the hospital to get help told d.c. police she was sexually assaulted there. >> police charged a maryland man who worked at that hospital. but justin finch is live to tell us how the man is responding now. justin? >> reporter: eun, good morning. with a police probe and investigation underway, this case is far from over. but the man at the center of it

now this all goes back to last sunday morning at united medical center in southeast washington. that's where a patient said that she was sexually assaulted at the hands of a medical staffer during her treatment there. now 51-year-old premarco simone is charged with second-degree say anything more, but the hospital is releasing a statement saying it is united medical center's policy not to comment on matters that are under investigation. the alleged situation that transpired on sunday is currently under review by members of the hospital's administrative team. and back live, we do know that simone is due back in court on december 16th. police also looking for other possible accusers out there who shared this same story. back to you.

we're getting a clearer picture of the incident that sent four people to the hospital in fairfax county. police say three of the victims were women and one was a girl whose age has not been released. they say it began around 5:00 yesterday evening near annandale high school. no women were shot. at last check they are in stable condition. police recovered the gun but have not said who fired it. and the man facing murder charges in the lyons' sisters case is facing brand new charges rape and sexual battery for a girl in 1996. he was indicted on new charges earlier this week. and welsh is awaiting trial in bedford, virginia, after murdering sheila and katherine lyons in 1975. the two sisters were last seen walking from their home in montgomery to wheaton mall. their bodies have never been found. and new video continues to come into a live desk from that

already. you can see what appears to look like a parking garage there crumbling. this is after that 6.5 quake hit the northern part of the country. hundreds of buildings and more than a dozen mosques were damaged. rescue efforts are underway right now to find the missing. we know that 97 people are confirmed dead. and officials say in the last couple hours that they believe from the look of it that the now, this is happening in the same region where 120,000 people lost their lives after an earthquake back in 2004. now back to you. angie, thank you. and it is 6:48 now. president-elect donald trump will head to ohio state university tomorrow to meet with the victims of last month's attack. meanwhile, he is continuing his thank you tour. he spoke in fayetteville, north carolina, near fort bragg and promised to defeat terrorism.

six-mile backup eastbound 70 at 270. the left lane, the only thing getting by this fatal accident this morning. so as we zoom in, you can see what a delay we are really feeling there this morning. now, this is from up in chopper 4. brad is going to show us what it is looking like. >> reporter: right now all lanes are blocked on the eastbound side of 270 to the side of 70. you are able to squeeze by on huge right now coming eastbound on 70 out of hagerstown. if you can bail out onto route 40 and work your way through frederick, you can get to 50 southbound. the lanes are open there. then get to the southbound side of 270 without a further delay. but it will take you a while to get over there and head down towards montgomery county. back out to you, melissa. and the other thing to mention here, right now you cannot get on the southbound 270

you can go over to duckies -- bucky's town pike. and a big look at the beltway recovering pretty well. the top of the beltway had three crashes on the outer loop. the first one at connecticut looking better than it was here this morning. 66 and 95, no major problems. keep your fingers crossed there. earlier inbound 4, we still see a backup there. the rest of the route i southbound 295 before east capitol, a broken down vehicle in the left lane. and the rest of 270, below 85 looking okay down to the spur. thank you. 6:54 now and following breaking news in prince william county where a boil water advisory is in place for the haymarket area because of a water main break on route 29. >> the advisory will stay in place for 48 hours so crews can test the water. news4's adam tuss is live in

sending their kids to school. adam, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, eun. you never want to wake up to this, knowing you have to send your kid to school with extra water, but that is the case. look here at the aftermath of what was a water main break in this area. and it kind of brings the entire industrial area out to wellington road and university drive just off here to the side. no impact to traffic in this area, but as you mentioned, a boil water advisory in effect for the nextt half because this water main break happened last night. so what you need to know is if you're sending your kid to school today in this area, there are a handful of schools impacted that will not be able to have the tap water going because you have to boil it. so they'll have extra water on hand, bottled water. and you want to send your child to school with extra water. we have a full list of all the schools on our nbc washington app. you can check there.
