desk. we're following breaking news. a deadly crash in loudoun county. a dramatic impact on the roads in that area. this is far western loudoun county along route 7. one person was killed after a truck and car crashed. deputy says u they had to shut down all westbound lanes of route 7 in the area of yellow schoolhouse road. investigator says it's going to be awhile before they will be able to reopen those lanes. images show the dramatic nature of this crash. you talk about is this part of loudoun county. they are close to the west virginia line. but route 7 is a major to ro fair for so many people in and out of d.c. these are the westbound lanes shut down. at the live desk, i'm scott macfarlane. people are shovel iing out from the season's first big or

area. tomorrow will be a little cooler. we're tracking a small system tomorrow. then turning much colder on wednesday. and we're talking a frigid week. i will be back in ten minutes with the latest. it's a stubborn incinerator fire. firefighters are trying to put out a fire u at a trash incinerator plant that's been burning for days. it started thursday night at the resource recovery facility on martinsburg road. darcy spencer is live there now and has the latest o on how this blaze could impact trash collection in the county. the smoke from it this fire is pretty bad depending on which way the wind is e blowing. it has a horrible smell. i want to show you where the fire is burning. right here in this build ing

this is the incinerator area u for montgomery county. the fire is confined to this building. you can see the top part where they had to pull a hole in the building so they could get in and put water. this is very stubborn. they are having a hard time putting this fire out. they have been out here since about 6:30 on thursday evening working around the clock. but again, it's still not out. it's confined. looking at several more days of being able to get this completely out. they are facing a lot of challenges here. as we put water on the fire, it smokes up and then it's hard for them to operate. if you live in a single family home, you will not be impacted. but if you're in a multifamily dwelling like an apartment building or a business, your trash is going to have to be sent to another facility. let's hear from the fire spokesman.

>> you have a huge amount of trash in this facility. so there was a fire. but pretty significant fire. initially, we called for second alarm precautionary, but the fire was contained and they worked throughout the night to make sure that was the case. reporting live in dickerson, darcy spencer, news 4. first at 4:00, a young man was shot to death sitting in his car in northwest d.c. and his mother is still having a hard time believing him u. police found him inside a jaguar on 32nd street. his mom says she's still trying to process what happened.

hundreds of activists marched from the justice department to the white house this morning. they called on president obama to shut down a registry program that targets muslims. the so-called national security entry/exit registration system was created right after 9/11. president obama shut down the operations in 2011, but the policies outline remains on the books. they fear the new president could reinstate the system when he enters office next month. we are now just six weeks away from a big crowd expected for the president's inauguration. >> about 20 protest groups are complaining the park service won't issue them permits. officials say they reserve space for t

be pushed off somewhere far away. so they are asking the park service to change this policy and provide some space that can be properly watched over by police, but still be close to the inauguration ceremony. so the court says we don't know if the court will rule or not. >> if they did, could then the committee come back and file a countersuit and say this has always been the case. a lot of this and until we release it. >> the trump people are saying they are still organizing what they want to do. in the women's march the day after, they have given up on the park service. they are asking the d.c. police department for a simple permit to be on the street, much less on park service lapd. it could get messy. the week of the inauguration. >> there's no deadline for the committee to do anything. it doesn't have to do anything. it may not. we'll see. >> thank you it, tom. let's take a look atat

netflix bingeing habits. they like to binge on a series and take a break for a few days. they looked at subscribers. nearly 60% of viewers pause for a few days after finishing a series before they committed to a new show. among those people who did take a break, majority decided to just watch. la laland, moonlight and westworld lead the golden globe nominations recognizing the best in film and on television. >> a lot of the nominations went as predicted, but there was some sur surprises. i wish the americans could get a little more love. what jumped out at you? >> same weekend it was released in theaters in select theaters and the day after won best picture at the critics choice awards "la lalan w

back in april animal control officers seized three emaciated pit bull puppies from her home. she's banned from own anything pets and has to attend a responsible owner class before she can get another. the good take away is the puppies have all been treated and adopted. the new mgm national harbor has been an entertainment hot spot. it hosted more than 50,000 it people between thursday and sunday night and it anticipates thousands more will visit in the days to come. to see the variety of acts that will start performing at the theater there, the $1.4 billion facility opened on thursday after two years of construction and it's open 24 hours a day. we're among the millions of americans getting ready for a second arctic blst.
