now at 11:00, 2016 takes another star. all allen thicke died suddenly this evening. all kinds of reaction. plus new information about the wild police chase at the heart of rush hour tonight. a woman in handcuffs driving a stolen cruiser into virginia and workers planning to strike tomorrow at two of our major airports. the impact it could have and what they're demanding.

and first up tonight that breaking news on i-95 in maryland. we sent you the alert on our nbc washington app. we show you the traffic getting by slowly now in both directions after a tractor-trailer crashed near the icc in laurel. this is on the northbound side. both directions were closed at one point tonight. a helicopter landed to take one person to the hospital. prince george's county fire officials say one adult and one child have life threatening injuries. two other people were hurt. we're still working to get more information, but expect the cleanup northbound to last a while. now to the breaking news we told you about live at 6:00. a woman in handcuffs leads police on a wild chase from d.c. into virginia. at the heart of rush hour it ended on the ramp from route 7 to 395 in

where it began. >> reporter: we're told the 26-year-old woman from virginia was arrested for repeat trespassing here at the garfield terrace housing complex. something she was not supposed to, then she did something she really wasn't supposed to do. >> the driver side door of the d.c. housing authority shows evidence of sideswiping an estimated ten cars on its strange nearly nine-mile nonhigh speed pursuit through d.c. streets into the third street tunnel during rush hour. behind the wheel, a handcuffed woman who had been arrested just after 5:00 p.m. for violating a judicial order to stay away from the garfield terrace housing complex. officials at the scene tell news 4 the 26-year-old apparently climbed through a partition windows separating the front and the back

arresting officer went into the building to retrieve a bag. the prisoner took off. her drive came to an end as the explorer was taking an exit, possibly trying to get back to d.c. and rammed a d.c. police cruiser involved in the pursuit. no officers were injured. the woman went to the hospital to be checked for injuries. >> reporter: sources say during her initial contact with officers here at garfield terrace, the woman told them she was pregnant. those sources also tell us a small amount of suspected narcotics was found during a prearrest search. live in northwest, jackie bensen, news 4. kris lawrence picking up on the other breaking news. allen thicke had a sudden heart attack in los angeles and died. he recently appeared as himself in "this is us". and he's made cameos on

house". to a lot of fans he's jayson sooefer. a dad on "growing pains". he had three sons. he's trending on twitter. ellen degeneres tweeted america loved alan thicke. bob saget said he was a good husband, brother and son, and russell simmons said rest in peace to my brother, allen thicke. in one of his last tweets, thicke thanked people for an iconic award and said i promise to try to stay iconic. the chopper is over the scene of another crash. crews working to get a truck right side up. no one was seriously injured here. it caused a big traffic headache for people headed

9:00 tonight. no word yet on what caused this crash. a developing story you'll want to know about if you're headed to the airport tomorrow. hundreds of contract workers at both reagan national and dulles airports will walk off the job starting at 6:00 a.m. they'll picket outside terminal c and there will be a rally before 8:00 a.m. with several elected officials. then the workers will head to the metropolitan washington airports authority where they'll demand a $15 living wage. the authority does not expect airport operations to be impacted. new tonight, a disturbing story out of fairfax county where a man is accused of trying to light a woman on fire while their child was nearby in the backseat of a car. police tell us the 26-year-old, lamar tomas poured flammable liquid on the woman and tried to ignite it. the investigators say the woman was dropping off the one-year-old at tomas's house. the twoe

tomas is charged with malicious wounding. no one was hurt. this is just the latest in what's become an awful trend in our area. last month in alexandria, police say a man set his wife on fire days before thanksgiving. she died a few weeks later. in prince george's county police say a man set a woman on fire after an argument at their home. she suffered third degree burns. he died in that fire. we want to remind you nbc 4 is committed about raising awareness about domestic violence and solutions in the washington area. you can find resources on our app. just search "safe at home". also new tonight, a cop and safe university police officer shot and killed a man in baltimore. police say the man was shooting at a car near campus. that car sped off, and the officer who was nearby in an unmarked cruiser shot the gunman. a separate s

tonight brought the city up to 300 homicides for the year. another local school district tackling the issue of lgbt discrimination tonight. it was a packed house in loudoun county. some called for change to district policy to better protect students and employees. but as news 4 reports, not everybody is on board. >> i certainly won't be believe anyone should be bullied. >> reporter: megadoesn't like bullying, but she also doesn't support adding protection in public schools. she's a mother of four. >> it's a buy logical boy is in a locker room with my daughter, then she is not able to object to that. because she's been discriminating against that person based on their gender identity. >> reporter: megaalong with dozens of people shared their views at tonight's school board meeting. the room is divided. >> these people are equal to

you. not everyone understands the bredth of human experience, and some people feel threatens by what they don't understand, and that's why we need the labels. that's why we need these productions. >> reporter: supporters say the added protection is necessary to protect lgbt students from being bullied and employees from being fired because of their sexual orientation. >> all we're seeking is protection for everybody. >> the end result of adding that language to the nondiscrimination policy is that then the vast majority of students are silence first down they are uncomfortable sharing intimate spaces with people who are not like them. >> reporter: the school board did not vote on the issue tonight. they say they must first consult with their lawyer who is out of town. they could possibly vote the second week in january. in loudoun county, i'm shomari stone, news 4. >> a data breach dating back six years couldff

on the radar, we have seen a couple of showers here and there. some sprinkles and flurries. one system of the south, one to the north and inbetween, we didn't see much. just a couple of inches of snow to the north and west. here's what's happening tomorrow. sun shine early. and then once the clouds develop in the afternoon and look at the front. maybe snow showers in and around part of the area. it's not going to amount to much. they'll melt on contact because we've been well above average. a different story later this week. thursday 7:00 a.m., we're back to clear skies but, boy, what a change we have on thursday coming our way. look at the current temperatures. 42 d.c. 4 in chicago. and that's not even the coldest of the air. making its way down. it's actually still in canada. look at the pink. the pink is the really cold air. look how the pink is in our region. 21. in this isn't the windchill. this is the actual temperature at
