their midst. >> investigators determined the man they had in custody was not the driver of the truck that planned into a busy christmas market. now we're able to take a life look at the scene of the tragedy placing flowers there where they have come to pay their respects. the islamic state group claimed responsibility and matt brd lee has the latest from berlin. >> reporter: nbc news can con if you remember that german police released the initial suspect in the killing of 12 people last night at this christmas market in central berlin. in that attack, somebody drove a truck into this crowded market at 8:00 p.m. last night plowing into dozens of people killing 12 of them and injuring dozens more. 16 of them critically. police have said this 23-year-old man they didn't have the evidence to put him in the cab of the truck that cote

the forensic evidence wasn't there. the witnesses, even though there were crowds of people, they weren't able to identify the man as having been in the truck at the time of the killing. now there's a perpetrator at large. somewhere either in berlin or germany trying to flee police. . the dragnet is going to continue and police are scouring the country and combing through video cameras looking to try to place the man, the driver who manage d to simply disappear ino the crowd following this very violent au tack. back to you. i'm meagan fitzgerald in china town. here where you can see people are busy e getting last-minute holiday gifts. the setting, the con concept is similar to what we saw in berlin and that was just hours ago where tragedy struck at a truck plowed through a crowd. customers here tell

soon as it gets there. first at 4:00, new video just released out of fairfax county shows the tense moments leading up to a deputy-involved shooting that left a 29-year-old man dead. david culver joins us live outside of police headquarters in fairfax where he's gotten a briefing. what have you learned about this? >> reporter: hi, pat. we can tell you that video just released to us from police headquarters is disturbing to watch. we want to warn folks. it shows the deadly encounter because a sheriffs deputy and the 29-year-old involved in that august incident. it's a shooting that police and prosecutors both call justified. before the police lights illuminated this hospital bus stop, this one security camera capturing disturbing moments. police walking us through the footage today that helped determine what happened that august

>> reporter: he was released from the hospital after several hours. an officer found him earlier in the day u along little river turnpike. >> over 100 degrees that day and mr. gomez was sweating heavily and had twitching under his eyes, which prompted the officer to fall for rescue personnel. >> gomez seen here pace iing ard the bus stop. in his hand, a no smoking sign post. police say it was about three feet long. the video then shows gomez swinging at a hospital security guard. police say u this clip shows his fellow security guards examining his injuries. and seconding him to the e.r. >> this is when security personnel get on the security radios and radio for additional assistance. >> reporter: the deputy on hospital duty that day overheard the call on the radio and moved in. this is where the interaction is quick. that's gomez holding the post above h

to put the flames out. there was $10,000 in damage. no word on how it start itted. in northern virginia a family got the worst kind of news in their search for a missing relative. he was discovered in a frozen pond nearby her home. she's 67 years old. she had gone missing overnight. searchers discovered her wearing only a shirt and jeans. >> there's a a lot of elderly u in this community. that's all we can do. >> robinson was suffering from alzheimer's disease and they are warning everyone to keep a special eye on elderly family members and neighbors during this extremely cold weather. it is still on the cold side today. even with plenty of sunshine, high temperatures only in the 30s so far. a high yesterday of 39. we haven't even gotten there today. take a look acro

a warning from arlington police about a scam that is snagging victims throughout the area. it involves fake gold. drivers are being flagged down to help with what appears to be a disabled vehicle in some of these cases the victims are tricked into buying the phoney jewelry. and others their real jewelry is stolen and replaced with the fakes. if you have information, call police. it has been an incredible year of ups and downs for larry hogan. tracee wilkins spoke to him about a range of issues and what's on the minds of folks in maryland. >> there wa a

>> kristen dahlgren is covering this story and joins us with a preview. why are new moms more at risk compared to other women? >> hey, as of 40 something new mom, this story is a particular concern to me. that's a question that doctors are asking. in 10 to 20% of the cases, they are new moms. that means there are a lot of young women also affected. the average age for this skad heart attack, it is a tearing in thertery. instead of the cholesterol type heart attack we normally see, this is actually a tearing in the artery and it blocks flow to the heart. so the average age is 42. it can also affect men, but it's predominantly in women u. it was originally thought to be this really rare complication that it women who

vehicle flying up the ramp where it crashed on its side. the officer was sitting inside when it happened. she's pretty sore, but otherwise okay. officers say always move to the left when you see an emergency vehicle on the side of the road. . that's something we just saw saturday. turning to the weather, speaking of ice, we don't have any right now. are we going to get any the day before winter starts? >> temperatures going way. up. winter starts tomorrow at 5:44. that's meteorology for december 1st, but this is amuch nicer co temperature wise. it's chilly. even with plenty of sunshine. temperatures held down. we're a little cooler than expected. i was thinking low 40s. we're at 37 right now. winds out of the southeast at 3 miles an hour. even with all that sunshine,

the deadly rampage in germany has authorities in europe and the u.s. on high alert. a truck rammed into a christmas market yesterday in berlin. >> a a short time ago isis

attack. 12 people were killed in the rampage and 50 others were injured. there are fears the driver is still on the loose. one man was arrested near the scene shortly after the attack. police released him for lack of evidence. authorities are treating this incident as a terror attacattac. security is very tight in turkey following the assassination of the russian ambassador. his remains have been flown home to russia. he was shot dead monday while delivering a speech at a photo exhibit in the turkish capital. his attacker was a a member of the riot police squad and shouted a about the syrian city of a lleppo during his attack. he was later shot and killed by police. the ambassador's murder are raising concerns about holiday security here and abroad. >> authorities were on high alert. jennifer johnson is tracking developments for us. what have you been seeing out

some states are better prepared for health emergencies than it others. a new report from the trust for america's health found the nation is often caught off guard when threats pop up like zika virus or ebola or a terror threat. they ranked stas

isis is claiming responsibility for the holiday market crash in berlin that killed 12 people. earlier today german investigators released the suspect they had in custody because of insufficient evidence. breaking news from chopper 4, these are live pictures from the scene of a crash involving three pedestrians. a woman and two children were hit by a car. the woman suffered serious injuries, but the children are expected to be okay. for the first time, we're seeing video from the deadly confrontation between a sheriffs deputy and a man wielding a sign post. this happened back in august, but it's just been in the past week that police cleared the deputy for shooting and killing gomez. it looksed as if he was holding a sword. time is running out to get the letters and packages in the mail. today is the last day to guarantee mail will be delivered by christmas. a new transportation option for weary commuters.

tacoma cross roads transit center located at university boulevard and new hampshire avenue. it's projected to handle 12,000 commuters a day. >> transportation reporter adam tuss takes a close up look. >> reporter: this is something our region has never seen before. take a look here. this is the new tacoma cross roads transit center. we're talking about 12,000 people a day. that could be using this facility here, which basically straddles montgomery and prince georges county. this has been a long time coming and developing. what's also interesting in the future it could be a site for the planned purple line in maryland. a lot of elected leaders on hand to dedicate this facility. the next few days, this is all about training bus operators. but on thursday, it officially opened. if wa

matt and beau talked every day for the last two months and beau was fibbing to his little brother just o to surprise him. you can see more of this heartwarming reunion on nightly news as both brothers are featured in their series inspiring america. some pretty rough weather going on out west. the blizzard outside yellowstone was so severe, rescue crews have been trying to dig vehicles out of snow drifts. even the toe trucks that came to help them ended up getting stuck as well. below zero temperatures and high winds made matters even more complicated. >> the temperature gauge on one of our truck was minus 65. >> a lot of those plow truck drivers say they have been working 72 hours straight with little to no sleep. all of that is another way of saying be thankful for the weather that we have
