jackie bensen is live at a vigil this evening. we'll be dealing with mark segraves who has the latest on this investigation. >> the suspect is adrian dwayne johnson. he's charged with murder as well as second degree theft. he was arrested here outside of this cvs in northwest near georgetown. it's here also where they found mccully's body. what we know from police is is that this was not the only cvs store where the suspect johnson drove with the victim's car. the police chief confirmed the worst as family and friends of trisha mccully had been holding out hope the popular yoga instructor would be found alive. after issuing a lookout for

man, a man saw the suspect and approached him. >> he's sitting across the street parked in her car. and i just immediately came together that this was the guy. >> reporter: he called police. when they arrived, they found the suspect inside this cvs near georgetown. he handed the cops the keys to mccully's car, which was parked out front. inside, they found her body. . >> there appears to be trauma to the body. we'll know more when the autopsy is complete. >> reporter: the suspect was driving around in her car for as long as 24 hours before he was caught. mccully was last seen 4:30 christmas afternoon at her home on north capital street. early monday morning, the suspect was seen with her car between 12:30 and 3:30 in the 3400 block of georgia avenue northwest. then again around 8:00 a.m. in the 400 block of massachusetts avenue. and between 9:15 and 9:30 he was spotted at this cvs in. the 700 bloc

northwest. and again between 11:00 and 11:50 a.m. in the 2300 block of washington place northeast. then police say the suspect was spotted around 1:00 in the afternoon in the who 400 block of rhode island avenue northeast. and once more between 2:00 and 2:30 in the 2800 block of 7th street northeast. the final spotting was this morning just after midnight. the car and suspect seen here at this cvs at 22 skpnd m street northwest. this all ended here, but at that other cvs where the suspect attacked an employee while driving around in the victim's car. i talked to that employee this afternoon. she told me that johnson entered the cvs acting strangely. she watched him go over to the aisle with hand soap and load a cart filled with all the soap

and the manager confronted him and became agitated. she tried to call police and he attacked her and tried to grab the phone from her and she fled. it was hours later he was arrested here. what we now know about adrian johnson is last week he was arrested also at another cvs for second degree theft. he was ordered to be put on a gps monitor and to receive a mental health evaluation. we do not know if he ever got that gps or showed up for that mental health evaluation. he is due in court for his first appearance some time tomorrow afternoon. our team coverage continues now as those who knew trisha are gathering to remember her. there will be a vigil at yoga district on northwest d.c. and that's where jackie bensen is. >> reporter: some friends have tears in r

she had a lot of friends and they are in a lot of pain tonight. now she's described as a uniquely loving and kind person who dedicated her life to helping others feel better through her work as a yoga instructor and actresactress. the news of her death changed the nature of tonight's vigil. it will be a a gathering who honored the spirit who came here three decades ago. to continue to a park nearby at third and elm street. it should be noted that bloomingdale is also the place that was the scene of a murder in july of a staff er. so something that people are very concerned about. something that people have a lot of pain in their

that's at third and elm streets in northwest. that is the same park where she loved to garden and where she worked as an herbalist. right now, we're keeping an eye on a developing story in montgomery county. these are pictures over parkland drive in rockville, where two people were hit by a car. one of the victims is a 28-year-old woman who is in extremely critical condition. she's been flown to a hospital in baltimore. the other person hit was a child. parkland drive between independence is closed. we are also learning about a deadly hit-and-run in the district.

suspicious. no charges for a local mother who left her kids alone in a running suv while running errands. the child protective services is investigating. the vehicle had had an exhaust leak causing carbon monoxide to fill the car. a 9-year-old began feeling sick and walked into the sears where he found his mother and brought her back to the car. a 3-year-old and 3-month-old still inside were also sick. they were taken to the hospital, but they were released last night. when you request an uber ride, you expect the first available car to pick you up. but passengers are telling news 4 that hasn't been happening because the uber driver may u not like the destination. transportation reporter adam tuss has been digging into the story today and joins us live now from reagan national airport. >> reporter: the driver might say you're not going to get enough money if it you take that trip u. because they

now at 5:30, metro ready to install free wifi at its underground stations. tom sherwood brings us the timetable for when it could be in place. but first a surprise for a grieving family as police return to the scene of a deadly stabbing. it was one month after they witnessed a fight between their parents turned deadly. three children got a much-needed holiday surprise. as david culver shows us, it came from the officer who is first responded to that family's tragedy. >> reporter: police officers out of the mount vernon district doing their job responding to a shots fired off route 1. we planned to interview three of the officers on an unrelated story. we waited until the scene winded down before we could ask them about a surprise they pulled off. >> some call it more than others. the officer tells us it started in late november. this

in the district, a man is recovering after someone shot him in broad daylight. it happened along 8th street in southeast. we're told officers responded to a report of a shooting and found the victim lying in the street. at this point no word on a possible motive or suspect. a traffic alert that could mean delays along the busy road in prince william county. today through next friday, expect to see crews out along route 1 in an area near the jefferson plaza shopping center. chopper 4 over the scene earlier today. we're told this work is for a new bridge over the creek. there's been lots of worries about metro and safetrack delays. but today there's some good news for rail customers. tom sherwood reports metro is going to make free wifi

stations. >> but now metro says it's upgrading their own network underground beginning next summer the service will be free to some rail customers and all 50 underground stations by the end of 2017. what do you think about that? >> i think that's a great movement that we have. especially with all the problems that we have on the tracks. it will be great if we get access to internet while on the train. >> reporter: a metro spokesman says metro already was spending $5 million to upgrade their bwh u fie system. a test project by general manager showed riders liked the access too.

holmes was driving behind her and got impatient when she was at a stop sign. she said holmes honked his horn and got out and shot into her car. holmes will remain in jail without bond. a program that has become a target for critics is preparing to commission a new vessel named after a well known shooting survivor. this is gabrielle giffords, shone during the naming ceremony. the vessel is part of a naming program that's come under fire from john mccain, who calls the ship's example wasteful spending. she was shot in the the head in 2011 in a mass shooting ens. six others died in that attack. an outbreak of violence at shopping malls during the post christmas shopping
