and mccawley's body inside that car. this is a tragedy that began to unfold christmas day when she disappeared. >> we have team coverage for you this evening as community members gather at this hour to remember her starting with mark segraves on the hour by hour break down on what we know so far in this investigation. mark? >> reporter: away we know about adrian johnson, the suspect in this case, is that he was arrested ten days ago for a second degree theft and then we know over the past 24 hours that she went missing and he was driving around in her car to several locations before they both ended up here at this location on m street. the common denominator to all of those incidents were cvs stores. trisha was a popular yoga teacher and actress. she was last seen at her home on

afternoon. after police put out an alert for her car and this suspect, a man saw the car and he approached it. >> he rolled down the window and said, hello, sir, how are you? it was kind of jarring. >> reporter: he called police who found the 29-year-old inside this cvs. johnson gave officers the key to the car, which was parked outside. that's where police found her body. but during the 24 hours she was missing, police say johnson drove around d.c. in the victim's car driving to several locations including several cvs stores including this one where he assaulted an employee. the employee tells news 4 she saw the suspect walk into the cvs after 9:00 in the morning. she asked if he could help. that's when she told him they didn't have shopping cart, but she offered a small red

basket. then keep the body soap. she saw him fill that basket with all the soap he could. that's when the manager approached had him and asked them if he could help. the man became agitated and walked over to the self-checkout aisle. that's when the manager told the employee to call police. she said as she did, the suspect lunged at her, wrestled with her trying to grab her phone and then left. looking back now, the reality of what happened is hard to believe. >> i didn't know she was there in the car. and that's scary. and sad. >> reporter: now adrian johnson was arrested and charged with the murder. he's expected in court tomorrow. he had been arrested ten days ago at a separate cvs store for almost an identical incident. he went into that store, filled a a bag with electronic toothbrushes and then tried to pretend like he was paying for them at the self-ko

he ran out and was arrested there by police. he was ordered to have a gps device put on him and undergo mental evaluation and he's due back for that case next year some time in early january. it's unclear whether or not he actually comply ued with that and got a mental health evaluation and whether or not he actually got that gps device. that's the latest on this developing story. back to you. >> mark segraves, thank you. friends and neighbors are coming together to remember the victim. there are two candle light vigils planned for her. one that just started within the past hour. jackie bensen is live now in northwest washington with the story from there. >> reporter: she was someone who truly believed in and loved her life in a way that ds

we're told both have serious injuries. we don't know yet who was at fault. we'll bring you new information on our nbc washington app. another celebrity being mourned at the end of this year. the world is remembering actress carrie fisher. her family says she died this morning after suffering that heart attack on a plane last week. we look back at the life of one of hollywood's most beloved prin senses. >> reporter: carrie fisher was born in 1956 into entertainment royalty. the daughter of eddie fisher and deb ri reynolds. appearing as a singer in broadway's "irene" alongside her mother. her film debut in 1975. >> i don't know what you're talking about. >> but just two years later, fisher blasted off to store dom in "star wars." she would return in "empire strikes

driver doesn't want to go to the destination is a big violation. but riders say it's been happening especially at the airport. >> you could tell what was going on after the first few times. why is this going on. it kept going on. >> reporter: landon says he had to go through five separate uber drivers before one finally picked him up at reagan national recent ly. the reason the drivers thought his short trip to downtown d.c. wasn't worth the trip. uber can ban drivers who cancelled too many trips, but with landon, some drivers were calling him ahead of time to figure out where he was going. >> i just wanted to know where you're heading. i said downtown d.c. two minutes later, he cancelled. >> reporter: other drivers may have manipulated the app or used a separate app to figure out the final destination and decided they didn't want the trip. we reach ed out to uber which sent us this statement saying we believe uber is helping reduce transportation inequities across he

that plane went down two minutes after it took off from chi on sunday. crew cans were back on the water searching for victims and debris. on a day when so many are mourning the loss of carrie fisher, there are also new details emerging about the death of pop star george michael. kelly has the latest from london. >> reporter: behind the music, the talent, a troubled soul. neighbors saw him a few weeks ago at a restaurant. >> he was at the next table and he was very quiet. he didn't look well. he was with his friends. >> reporter: on monday michael's long-time boyfriend tweeting out how he discovered the singer christmas morning. it's a christmas i will never forget finding your partner dead peacefully in bed first thing in the morning.

a friend saying the singer was struggling with addiction. george michael was a star at just 18. and he said he found fame hard to manage. his run ins with the law well known. arrested in 1998 for exposing himself to an undercover policeman in l.a. caught with drugs in london in 2006. a driving ban in britain in 2 7 2007. arrested again for drugs in 2008. and in 2010 after crashing into a london store, four weeks in prison. and he always bounced back. even after a pneumonia scare in 2011. >> the hospital they rushed me to was absolutely the best place in the world i could have been. >> reporter: in recent months, michael stayed out of the spotlight. >> he became very reclusive. so he wasn't seen around that much. he didn't do very much. but an

i think that whatever personal demons he had, he had to deal with. but let's hope his career is his lasting legacy. >> reporter: they have spoken to george michael's boyfriend who told them this. everything has been very complicated recently, but george was looking forward to christmas. i want people to remember him the way he was, he was a beautiful person. police say they won't have any further comments about a cause of death until after the postmortem. while we don't know the causes of the heart problems of michael or fisher, we do know 1 in 4 americans die from heart disease. it's the leading cause of death in this country. heart attacks happen when coronary arteries get blocked. . they occur in men and women, but the warning signs can be very different. some of the most common are chest pain that feels like an elephant is sitting on your ch

when you go outside and go oh my goodness. this feels amazing. how do you even play golf? >> when i got in my car and rolled the windows down, i felt like it was april or may. it was spectacular weather. only 4 degrees shy of a record. now the sun goes down and temperatures go down as well. with cooler air moving in it, it's a cooler day. really looking quite nice. 61 degrees still at the 6:00 can hour. by 7:00, temperatures

a deadly hit-and-run in d.c. >> the vehicle struck a woman along busy 14th street in northwest washington in columbia heights. chris gordon talked with people who know the victim and e he joins us live u from the scene tonight. >> reporter: the fatal hit-and-run happened here at this intersection on 14th street in northwest washington. the driver not only took a life, but may have broken a number of other laws by leaving the scene of the accident. motorcyclist this suv didn't stop and was caught fleeing after hitting a 54-year-old this morning. she was crossing 14th street. witnesses say she was dragged by the suv. the driver could be charged with manslaughter and face additional charges for failing to stop and check on the

make an emergency call to report the accident and failing to stay on the scene. >> he should have stopped and maybe she would have survived. >> reporter: they closed two blocks of 14th street for a few hours to investigate the fatal had hit-and-run. jackie lived a few block was where neighbors are trying to raise money to help bury her. >> she was a tweet, young girl. everyone knew her. she had her way. she was always smiling when i saw her. >> reporter: cole was deaf and couldn't speak, but she was able to communicate by signing and writing. some residents complain that drivers speed up 14th street and they say the street is crowded
