>> and the actress and best selling author, carrie fisher. her legend extends beyond that legendary franchise. good morning. >> good morning. many of us of a certain age, like mine, knew princess leia long before knowing anything about carrie fisher. interesting as people around the country reflect on her life, how much of the fearlessness and toughness of princess leia came from the actress herself. she wasn't just a princess, she was a hero in one of the most popular movies ever made. when news came that actress carrie fisher had died four days after suffering a heart attack on a flight between london and l.a., it's not surprising a large number of fans felt princess leia and a bit of their childhood died with them.

wedding singer, sister act, so many across behind her. it super seeded even a lot of her work on-screen. you look at the totality of what she did, she had a really prolific career in hollywood. >> i was watching the coverage last night and one of the quotes that stuck out most from one of her books, george lucas and talking about getting hired in the role of leia, ruined her life. and she did have a wit sometimes she loved it and sometimes loathed it, how did she feel in the past four years. >> in hollywood, the worst thing is to be pigeon holed. most actress doesn't want to be known for only one thing. but princess leia was so beloved. she came around to the idea this was a piece of the american fabric and she embraced that. she knew the role

back to her role as a teenager and "the diary had the notes she wrote while filming and this was so important to so many people and to her. >> harrison ford said she was emotionally fearless. she talked about mental health issues and talked about drugs and decided to expose that part of her life. what was the motivation? >> that's how she would want to be remembered, someone who br e bravely spoke about all of the trappings of hollywood. she was a child of hollywood, famous parents, had grown up seeing so many things, falling victim to so many things. she was very very open and brave about it. she even took the cause of mental health, having dealt with bipolar disorder herself. putting the truth out there. i really think that's what she would want to be known as. >> well said. thanks. a security scare at trump tower led to nervous moments
