essentially expelled 35 russian diplomats who work at the embassy here in d.c. >> also part of the sanctions, a russian-owned compound in maryland on the eastern shore one of two compounds that will eventually be shut down by the state department. you're looking at that. . it was over the compound earlier and a flurry of activity both at the compound and outside of it. >> news 4's darcy spencer continues our coverage from the russian embassy in northwest d.c. with a closer look at the steps taken today by the white house. >> we are live outside the russian embassy. but we're actually on the

backside. this is where some of the diplomats and staffers live. some of these diplomats, presumably, are among those going to be expound from this country as the president maeks goods to retaliation for russian hacking. let's show you video of the front side. this is in response to the cyber attacks and hacking affecting the 2016 election and the aggressive harassment of diplomats in russia. the president also saying the u.s. is going to provide corporate america and cyber network defenders critical information to stop and guard against russia's malicious activity. let's show you video of the compound on the eastern shore. the president is shutting down two russian compounds. including the one on the eastern shore. the 45-acre compound was bought by the soviet union in 1972. it's been used apparently as a vacation and retreat location for russian diplomats and

staffers. they have until noon tomorrow to get out. we have seen cars with u.s. government tags there at the compound. it's water front property. earlier today, mark warner issued a statement saying that basically praising the president's actions today, but also saying that the next president and the congress also had to support these actions in order to prevent future attacks. back to you. >> darcy spencer, thank you. developing in israel, more fallout from the vote by the u.n. security council. this is the one that condemns israeli settlements in the west bank and east jerusalem. officials now canceling a vote on applications to build nearly 500 new homes for israelis. the u.s. abstained from the initial vote making that resolution possible. tonight rabbis here are weighing in on the issue. chris gordon has the story.

rich. that deputy got wounded in the exchange. right now a deal to cut down violence across syria is in the works. a cease-fire will begin at midnight. it's between turkey and russia. not clear how long it will last or really just how successful it will be. but we do know both sides said they will follow the terms of the treaty. the u.s. was not involved in the deal. it comes days after forces said they kicked out the last remains of rebel fighters in aleppo. early morning snow and ice in frederick, maryland. >> up towards frederick county, washington county, we did see some of that snow and ice early this morning. you can see it on the radar

behind it, now we're starting to see the colder air and the wind really developing now. winds gusting 25 to 35 miles per hour and that's going to start bringing our windchills down as well. right now in our region, tracking a couple snow showers earlier. now they are all falling apart. now it's just the cold. take a look at these numbers. the windchill down to 44 in d.c. 34 in hagerstown. 28 in pittsburgh. and that's where we'll be tomorrow. much colder during the day tomorrow. that is for sure. the feels like temperature around 28. by tomorrow morning, windchill temperatures in the teens and 20s across the region. so get ready. bundle up. i'll have the forecast for the new years eve. >> new video of a meltdown in motown. fans say trey u songs lost

he's now charged with assaulting an officer. . you're looking at cell phone video from a concert goer. . it shows songs throwing things as officerings came to remove him from the stage. one officer got hit in the head and was taken to the hospital with a concussion. he's due back in court next week. d.c. police hope newly released video will help them identify the driver of a hit-and-run crash that killed a woman trying to cross the street. they say this suv struck and killed jacqueline cole tuesday morning as she crossed 14th street in columbia heights. cole was deaf and lived nearby. also in d.c., there's a new bench on a sidewalk that has a lot of people turning heads. >> it's aimed a at bringing police and kids together. mark segraves has the story. >> this is the woodland terrace of southeast washington. it has

it was a major drug bust. one man was driving with 250 pounds of marijuana. news 4's scott macfarlane has been doing some digging sdpound the drug bust might have been big but not rare. there's a new spike in drivers caught carrying loads of drugs to and through our business uiest roads. scott is live with the details you'll see only on

>> reporter: le in order thomp sons was driving his pickup when police stopped him for a traffic violation. according to investigators. inside his truck they found more than they expected. 6k kilos of cocoin. he was ordered to prison. earlier this month near clarksburg, police stopped a man with 250 pounds of marijuana in his van. he was headed from pittsburgh to virginia, investigator says. >> in this part of the country in the northeast, drugs typically run north to south. interstate 95, north to south. >> former trooper and transit officer neil franklin. >> the cartels and other major organizations, crime

that part of our story it tonight on news 4 at 6:00. for now live in rockville, scott macfarlane, news 4. >> thank you. we have got a major recall to tell you about now. it involves nearly 650,000 honda odyssey my u any vans. there's a problem with the second row seats which may not lock and could move unexpectedly during a crash. the recall covers odysseys from 2011 to 2016. honda says they discovered the problem through warranty claims. . there are no reports of injuries. honda is sending out recall notices next month. dealers will repair the faulty levers for free. starting next week, new cameras will be in place as police try to crack down on speeders. the cameras will be near south washington street. the

warning period that starts next wednesday. but come february, if it you get a citation, if you're caught speeding, you have to pay the fines connected to it. the cameras will be up and running by then. a family in prince george's county has to find a a new place to stay after a fire ripped through their home. it started just before 11:00 this morning. you can see the thick smoke pouring from the second floor and roof. and much of the roof is now missing. the fire burned through it causing a portion of it to cave in. the mom and son were able to get out safely. the damage is estimated at $250,000. prince george's county is leading maryland in rising property values. on average property values increased about 6.4%. in an assessment of 750,000 homes in prince george's county, propert

14%. commercial property values increased 11.5%. we take it for granted. every time we turn on the sinks and assume the water is going to flow. it's exposed serious vulnerabilities in the water supply. particularly here in the district. we take a look at the problem and a possible solution. >> this this story came to light a cup can l weeks ago. remember when there was that scene on the potomac that was back to the dickerson power plant in upper montgomery county. they have learned that there's only a 24 to 48-hour amount of backup water that the washington aqua duct has. and the to tom mac is the sole source of water for d.c., arlington and falls church. they have some extra water from the

experts at the washington area were glad to talk to us about this situation because they think it's important to discuss that the local water plant are not connected. so if one plant has a problem, they can't help each other of the out. there's now discussion and testing of to build what could be a shared reservoir that would help all three of the water companies in the area. we'll have all those details tomorrow morning. >> thanks so much. storm team 4 is tracking a few snow showers on the radar west of d.c. the snow flakes are starting to die down. cold air is moving in. when you'll really start to feel

>> we might get snow. but republically the cold air m in now. we have a chance to see some snow in the forecast. i'll show you what's happening. clear skies and mostly in the d.c. area. you can see this vantage point looking towards national harbor region is a good shot tonight. temperatures 49 degrees, but they are dropping. winds out of the west at 13 miles per hour. we have seen those winds gusting upwards of 25 to 30 miles per hour. and that's going to give us the windchill. windchill is already in the low 30s right now. temperature wise we're at 36 in winchester. so much cooler tonight. and especially during the day tomorrow. the windchill only in the 20s. now on the radar, we were

tracking a couple light snow showers coming through. those typically guy off. that's what happened. could see some tomorrow though. some snow showers. it's not going to be much. they are going to be lake-effect snow. developing around our region. maybe a couple snow showers. that's about it. but look back to the west here. we are still seeing snow towards the mountains of west virginia and western maryland. and the big storm towards new england is becoming a monster nor'easter. really starting to develop and strengthen here. boston gets rain for them. but for us means windy conditions. for us what we're seeing in our area just the cold tomorrow. but notice back towards the west f you're thinking about heading out to areas, winter storm warnings in effect. and they are going to see snowfall 5 to 10 inches of snow expected during the day on friday. . if you're heading there this weekend, a lot of people going skiing for the holiday. looking good for the west. speaking of ski and snow board forecast, how about the rest of the ar

base 8 to 16 inches. and then back to the west, towards snow shoe, these areas will get snow. but even around liberty, they will be able to make it tomorrow. looking like a good weekend if you're thinking about doing some skiing. temperature wise, 42 degrees. windy and cold. wind chills in the 20s. so a much different day tomorrow. the good news here on saturday. windchills in the 30s to 40s. sunday 51 degrees for the first day of 2017. then we look at monday and tuesday. some rain moving in. not a lot of rain, but temperatures go way up. 60 degrees on tuesday. temperatures come crashing down and take a hook at next friday and saturday. the first real shot. first shot of snowfall. still way out there. we'll continue to watch it for you here from the storm

right now at 5:30, you're looking live at the front gate of the russian embassy in northwest d.c. reaction is pouring into the obama administration's decision to sanction russia for a number of alleged hacks during the election year and for a pattern of harassment against u.s. diplomats. a spokesperson for the foreign ministry said in a statement, quote, the people who resided in the white house for the last eight years are not the administration. they are a group of foreign policy losers. angry and narrow minded. ns

afternoon. he joins us live. and from the state department, either saying these officials were acting in a a manner inconsistent with the diplomatic or counsellor status. you were speaking bluntly. what exactly is the accusation here? >> essentially it means they are intelligence officials shorthand for saying they are spies. they are saying basically these aren't diplomats. let's be clear, though. the u.s. embassy has someone that actually works in the cia. several people working in the cia that are there under diplomatic cover. the likely response to the expulsion of these 35, you can expect from u.s. intelligence officers in russia they could potentially be expelled from russia, which basically means you have to start your intelligence gathering, your sourcing up again. you have to start from scratch. both countries will be reduced a little bit in their intelligence capabilities. the other thing they did, the property out there in maryland. it

derrick ward is in tyson's co corner with details on the drunk driving patrols. >> reporter: you know what? you add that new year's eve holiday coming on a weekend when there's already a higher incident of drink iing. . that is a recipe for trouble. now there are things that people are expected to do. don't drink too much. take public transportation. but where all of that failed, fairfax county police have a final line of defense in place to keep the roads safe. 43.5%, half of all traffic deaths that occur on new year's involve impaired driving. the safe driving efforts here this weekend. >> during the holiday season, a lot of folks are out taking advantage of some holiday parties and enjoying time with family and friends and

their main focus is getting img paired drivers off the roadways. where the impaired drivers are or when the impaired ones are out. >> we look at the arrest data and found that typically our impaired driving crashes and arrests were occurring between the 7:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. hours. so that's typically when we'll deploy the team. >> reporter: this new year's weekend a lot more places ask drivers will meet the criteria. there are programs creating safe alternatives. but the alcohol program is among them. they expect to be busy as well. >> any time we have one of our soberride offerings on a weekend or nice weather out, we're going to have both this time of year, our ridership always goes up. but i think we can handle it. >> that's like

we're learning new details about a deputy who remains in serious condition after an exchange of gunfire on the eastern shore. >> that shooting left

man dead following a domestic dispute. our baltimore station has a look at how it all unfolded. >> reporter: it all started with a text message. >> the suspect's girlfriend who was staying with him at his residence sent a text message saying they were involved in a physical altercation. >> the victim's father picked her up and took her to the sheriffs office. just after midnight, deputy warren scott hogan accompanied her back to the home in chestertown to get her blonkings. >> the suspect went sbo a back room. other residents and obtained a shotgun. he came out and fired one round. he then continued walking toward the deputy and was in close proximity when the suspect and deputy exchanged gunfire. . both were struck by the other gunfire. >> reporter: the suspect 52-year-old james rich died a at a nearby hospital. deputy hogan was flown to shock trauma with a shotgun wound to the torso under his

"safe at home." emergency workers going door to door to check on homeowners and survey damage after rolling storms knocked out power and cut trees in half. all this happening in northern georgia. the severe weather damaged about 25 homes. mostly as a result of the high winds. no report of any injuries there. none of here. but maybe a taste of winter weather. >> it's a change in our pattern. we're finally going to get to a winter pattern into 2017. but next couple days, we get really cold tomorrow. but it's really only one day of real cold air before things moderate a little bit as we head into the holiday weekend. out there right now, looking good. temperatures today got to the 50 degree mark. we're down to 49. winds out of the west at 13 miles per hour. we have seen those winds gusting 20 to 35 miles per hour. that is bringing in the colder air. 43 in leesburg. 45 in twin brook.

down quickly through the res of the night into the day tomorrow. we're not seeing any rain or snow. we did have the rain early or snow this morning. and then this afternoon, we saw a couple showers included back towards i-81. that could be the case. would not be surprised with the flow around the storm which is becoming a big storm. that flow could give us a couple showers. don't be surprised to see some flakes. not going to amount to much. back to the mountains. they could see a couple inches. a monster storm developing for them. but for us, it's the cold and wind we have to deal with tomorrow. 42 degrees. windy and cold. windchills 25 to 30 degrees. it's going to be a cold one. windchills in the 20s all day tomorrow. and it's going to be cold still on new year's day.

who took part in the search, but they are asking for continued prayers as the two recooperate in the hospital. the 71-year-old and a 5-year-old granddaughter were traveling from new jersey to north carolina for christmas when they lost their way. they weren't heard from for four days. family members in new jersey describe the happy reunion. >> she was happy to see them. >> she was so scared. she's a tough girl. she's very bright and smart. >> in the meantime, investigators are still trying to figure out why barbara ended up deep in the woods. they were found by a farmer walking through the property. richard shon has been hunting in that area for more than a decade. but he says even he has gotten disoriented in the vast
