year's eve. >> for the officers in the unit, this work is personal. each with carefully selected to work on this squad. derrick ward is talking with them tonight. he joins us live from. >> reporter: you know what, all police officers are concerned with this sort of thing. especially this time of year. you have a weekend coming up and new year's eve coming on a weekend. so dui, those issues are top of minds for officers and people on the streets. but here in fairfax county, they have a group specifically picked because of their passion about keeping the roadways and motorists safe. they have been in place since the first of the month. the end of the month, new year's could be their busiest deployment yet. nine members of the police department specifically trained to be specifically focused on drunk driving and impaired driving. sl we took a look

something like pepper spray on the employees. investigators say there was more than one person. at this point, it's unclear whether they actually took anything from the store. that store is along i-street downtown. a deputy is in critical condition tonight after being shot. it happened early this morning on ed moore road in chestertown. deputy warren hogan escort ed a wosm back to her boyfriend's house to gather personal belongings after a fight. investigators say james rich came out of a back room with a shotgun. she and the deputy exchanged gunfire. both were hit. rich died at the hospital. the deputy was rushed sbo surgery. >> he was awake and talking, but clearly critically injured. we got him to the operating room and completed the first

it turned into big trouble pr trey songz who is is charged with assaulting a aen officer. he was upset when he had to end his set because time ran out. video comes from a a concert goer showing him tearing up props on stage and tossing them around. one officer got hit u in the head and suffered a concussion. h 24 hours after they were found alive, a new jersey woman and her great granddaughter are recovering in the hospital. they were found last night in a wooded area in virginia. they were headed to north carolina from new jersey on christmas eve and somehow lost their way. it took four days before a local man discovered their suv in the woods. the two survived on the juice boxes and snacks they had taken along for the ride. she was overjoy
