seeing sprinkles across the area. i want to show you where it is snowing. we're seeing snow in parts of northwest washington leaving bethesda, around the bowie area, along the beltway, dealing with light snowshowers. and around winchester and bluemont. heading into the afternoon we're dealing with feels-like temperatures in the 20s and 30s. i'll be walking you through the rest of your friday coming up. well right now, officials in prince george's county are investigating a murder at a home on byers street in capital heights. a man died after a shooting there. news4's justin finch is live there at the scene with more details. hey, justin. >> susan, good morning, this investigation has been active since late last night. just behind us here, you can see police remain on scene here, byers between arcadia and allison streets remain closed off as prince george's county police continue their homicide

time ago. detectives going door to door, looking for leads out here. focusing on neighbors who were closest to the crime scene. inside a beige house on the 3900 block of byers. now off-camera, neighbors tell us they heard a series of shots last night. about 8:45 thursday night, police pulled up here and found a man inside that beige house with gunshot wounds. he was taken to the hospital, where he later died. now back out live we know that police are planning to release an update on this case to include more details about that victim. who was shot inside that house here and also more clues about a possible person of interest in this case. neighbors here also noting down byers here just a few days ago there was a police-involved shooting that left an armed man dead and they're concerned about the gun violence coming into their neighborhood. live in capital heights, justin finch, news4, back to you. so the startling news for

county. the number of homicides in the county has more than doubled this year. in 2015, the county had ten homicides this year, it had 22. the uptick in homicides is blamed on things like the prevalence of guns, domestic violence and gangs. look at this video from chopper 4 captured over a destroyed in home in leonardtown, a house caught on for on chalendon way, the house was an entire loss, the flames damaged the home next door. the paint seems to have melted off the home. no word on how the fire started. new developments in the tension between the tension between u.s. and russia. russia's president is responding to the sanctions put in place by president obama. vladimir putin said russia will not expel u.s. diplomats if his country. that announcement came just hours after his foreign minister suggesting ousting american

the u.s. by sunday. these punishments are in response to allegations of election hacking involving the russian government. as news4's edward lawrence explains, the action is receiving bipartisan support. >> president obama used an executive order to take sweeping action against russia for repeated hacks during the presidential campaign. security experts believe this sends a message. >> it will have ramifications not only for president putin, but any other nation that tries in the future to interfere in our election. >> the obama administration expelled 35 russian intelligence operatives, closed russian-owned buildings in maryland and new york, and sanctioned russian intelligence agencies, as well as businesses that provided support for russian hacking. the move has bipartisan support in congress. >> i think the sanctions need to go beyond what we did today. we need to name putin as an individual and

meanwhile developing this morning, a cease-fire agreement in syria has been in effect for more than 12 hours. it's a potential breakthrough to end the country's six-year civil war. russia and turkey negotiated the truce between syria and the mainstream rebel fighters. if the cease-fire holds, it will be followed by peace talks next month. the truce comes days after syria regained control of aleppo, the country's largest city. critics in the united states say that the deal gives russia and iran a stronger foothold in the region. coming up, we get you ready to celebrate the new year, from the parties to getting you home safely. we show you snowshowers in our area, just a few minutes ago, new england is feeling the full impact of this winter storm. a look at how the area is handling the weather on this enliday week

42 in washington, 37 degrees in frederick where there was a bit more snow up there. thanks to everybody on twitter and facebook for sending in your pictures and reports. when you factor in the winds, this is the feels-like temperature and it's feeling about ten degrees cooler than the thermometer would be reading. feeling about 35 in washington, 26 in gaithersburg and a cold 20 degrees back in winchester. so for the rest of today we'll have high temperatures in the low 40s. but again, it's blustery, so it's going to feel like around 4:00, we're in the low to mid 30s. then as we head into the evening hours, the sun goes down. the winds die down. but the skies clear out and it's cold. by 8:00, we're around 37 and find overnight lows in the 20s. all in all, the weather having a low impact on your afternoon travel. all in all looking good. not hearing any reports of snow sticking to the roads. especially the main roads, just fine. the air is too warm. pavement is too warm. outdoor
