in prince george's county, police are looking for suspects after a man was found shot in his home. neighbors called police last night after they heard gunshots in capitol heights. they found the victim in his house. we're waiting now for police to release the victim's name. this l

happened just a week after a police-involved shooting on the same street. last week, police were checking out a suspicious vehicle on the street. they found two people asleep in the vehicle. officers say one of the men woke up and pointed a gun at the officer. the officer opened fire and killed the man. the passenger was arrested after trying to get out of the car. actress zsa zsa gabor is being remembered for her love of glamour and red carpets. mourners packing a church in beverly hills for her funeral mass this afternoon. the hungarian born actress died in her home last sunday from an apparent heart attack. she appeared in over 40 television shows and movies in her career. >> funeral services are still being planned for actress debbie reynolds and her daughter carrie fisher. reynolds died after having a stroke wednesday. she was in the middle of planning a funeral for fi

friday to round out our week. for most of us, it's been something to look at, no big issues on streets or sidewalks. so what about the new year's weekend? and when's the next time we'll see snow? doug will join us again in two minutes. in the district today, police released new details about the death of a 1-year-old over the summer. >> today, officers announced the arrest of that child's mother. news 4's erika gonzalez is in the news room with an update. >> police held a news conference this afternoon to announce the arrest of 26-year-old deanna debrow conley. investigators say conley was arrested in philadelphia. she's accused of killing her 1-year-old son, antonio conley jr. at a new york avenue home in the summer. d.c. fire and ems responded to the home for reports of an unconscious child. they took him to the

it was earlier this month that the chief medical examiner ruled the cause of death was blunt neck and head trauma and the manner of death to be homicide. that's when police had enough to arrest the mother. >> the autopsy came back, of course, the autopsy was performed by the medical examiner's office. the results were they ruled it a homicide, which led to us arresting the mom for it. >> deanna conley was transported back to the district. she's being charged with first degree murder. back to you. >> thanks. >> people in sydney, australia, will be ringing in the new year amid tight security. an extra 2,000 officers will be on patrol. this after police arrested a man today for allegedly making online threats on the city's new year's eve celebrations. australian police say he's not linked to any religious groups and is no longer a threat to the ublic. >> just 21 days to go until donald trump takes the oath of office, to become president of the united states. today, we're learning new

inauguration events that will take place here in washington. presidential inaugural committee spokesperson also told breitbart news the parade itself will last no longer than 90 minutes. and that's because trump plans to work between the end of the ceremony and the inaugural ball on january 20th. more than 40 groups and bands from around the country will take part in the parade, including the ones you see listed here from virginia. >> we previously told you how no bands from the district applied to take part in the 2017 inaugural parade. we have more details about that and a map showing all of the cities that do have marching bands participating. that's up right now on nbcwashington.com and in our app. >> i feel like i could see snow in the background at noon when we were doing the show, and a little outside, too. >> are we done or is there a little snow still? >> still coming down in parts of the area. these are just snow showers ng

move on through the rest of the evening hours. take a look at storm team 4 radar now, and you notice, still some snow on the radar. back towards the radar beam here. you look at dulles airport seeing snow right now. also snow in frederick, maryland. a pretty good snow shower here around the harper's ferry area in towards frederick and another toward the howard countyregion. even in some southern maryland. a zoom, i'll show you two spots. first off, through louden county, around the herndon area, snow coming through reston. even around gaithersburg, a couple flurries there. this is the one that could put down a coating as you make your way out and about this evening along route 7, route 50. roads will be fine. not worried about the roads at all. look at the snow across the lake. this is all lake effect snow, and if you look at the wider picture here, the big storm moves up to the north, but the flow behind it, right across the great lakes, right into our area, in through some of the colder air. that's why we're dealing with ow

a little bit of alcohol can be toxic to your child. it can also cause extremely low blood sugar and distress. well, we don't want to jin it, but it's been a relatively quiet flu season so far. the cdc says almost all of the flu strains seen here, seen in cases so far, are covered by this year's vaccine. doctors also say it's not too late to get the flu shot. peak months for flu are december through march. remember, if you do start feeling symptoms, antiviral drugs work best when started within two days. >> it's a tricky situation for some of the world's largest retailers now facing a big lawsuit from an iconic music group. run dmc filed a $50 million suit yesterday against walmart, amazon, and other retailers. the rap group says stores violated trademark laws by selling shirts, hats, glasses, and other items with the run dmc name without their permission. no comment so far from the retailers named in the lawsuit.

long airport lines, but do you know what goes on behind the scenes to get you through security quickly and safely? amy cho takes us inside a tsa operation center to see how workers keep the lines moving. >> reporter: if you have ever waited in a long line at an airport, well, this is where they try to fix that. there's the operation center where they're constantly tracking up to 29 busiest airports in the country. this screen over here shows the average wait times at the 29 busiest airports. you can see green means good, red means bad, yellow in between. if you're looking for specific numbers, this screen here tracking the average weight time at dulles airport. the wait time is about five minutes, so well below the goal of 30. i'll be telling you what tsa does when the lines get too long and why it's not only more veernlt. it's actually safer for you. that story coming up at 5:00. turning now to the

yerl morning in chestertown. the sheriff's department posted a message on their facebook page saying deputy warren hogan had problems overnight, but he's since improved. a go fund me page has been set up for deputy hogan. we posted a link on the nbc washington app. just search queen anne's. >> uber is thanking one of its drivers after he helped bust an underaged sex trafficking ring. this happened in sacramento. the driver picked up a teenage and two women, and took them to a hotel. he overheard them talking about delivering the girl to a john and getting money from him. he became suspicious that something wasn't right because of the girl's appearance. >> she had a really short skirt, so you could see all of her legs. it struck me as odd because she was so young. and she was dressing like that. >> now, the driver dropped them off at a hotel, began live streaming on facebook, and called police. the 16-year-old girl is a runaway.

how much are you willing to spend to ring in the new year? according to a study by wallet hub, 83% of americans spend less than $200 on new year's eve celebrations. of those, 48% will be celebrating at home. unlike these revelers in times square last year, and while 100 million americans will travel, the vast majority will drive to their celebrations. 20% will celebrate at a friend's house. >> a new study suggests you may want to watch what you eat if you're at a friend's party this weekend, especially if you're a guy. researchers fron cornell university found social occasions often lead to overeating, particularly for the men. in an environment, male college students who were instructed to eat as many chicken wings as possible, scarfed down more when they did it in front of a crowd, but women ate less when they were watched.

out there continuing right now. storm team four radar picking up the snow into parts of fairfax county. take a look at what we saw earlier. snow and sunshine. man, i was loving this earlier. the snow was coming down and the sun was shining as well across our region. that's exactly what you see with the lake effect snow bands. they come on through, bring you a quick burst of snow, and then you see the sun and more snow coming down. pretty cool to see that snow out there. there it is on the radar, continuing to see these snow showers moving on through. you'll see one and then a break and then possibly another one. right now, tracking one through montgomery county and howard county. another one in southern portions of the beltway, springfield, alexandria, maryland, you'll start to see those, too. the rest of the area, we'll start to see those on the decrease as the sun goes down. still, a very cold night tonight. temperatures quite chilly. tomorrow, new year's eve, looking good. i'll have that forecast and the next chance for snow in my forecast. and of cur
