new congress. meanwhile, the state department says the russian diplomates order out of the united states have now left. president obama called for 35 diplomates to leave the country in retaliationer for alleged hacking of the u.s. presidential election. two russian compounds, one in maryland, one in new york have also been shut down. the president has also ordered new sanctions on two suspected hackers and three companies that allegedly provided support to cyber operations. after a long holiday in honolulu, the first family is returning from their final vacation as the first feel. they are flying back from hawaii this morning and are expected to be back in the d.c. area before noon. and today, the newest members of the d.c. council, they will be sworn in. the ceremony will begin at 10:00 this morning in the washington convention center.. among those taking the oath will be vincent greg. he is the new ward 7 council member. if you're taking metro this

he discussed optimism saying hack sg very difficult to prove and he cryptically promised to deliver some information that people don't know. he said he would reveal this information tuesday or wednesday about the russian hacks. we'll have to wait and see what that is all about, but we know he was scheduled to meet with the leaders of u.s. intelligence agencies earlier this week. we have to assume that maybe he will reveal that information after he meets with those intelligence agencies. the other fight it looks like he's gearing up for here might be obama care. president obama is coming back to washington today from hawaii after spending the holidays there. he is set to go to capitol hill on wednesday to meet with congressional democrats to try and come up with some ideas on how to protect his signature health care law. when asked about that, donald trump says, look, he's the president until january 20th

when morales reportedly stole that car. convicted charleston church shooter dylann roof is expected to undergo a psychiatric evaluation today. the sentencing phase of this had trial is set to start tomorrow and roof could face the death penalty for the 2015 shooting where he killed nine african-american parishioners at the emanuel ame church in charleston, south carolina. a new year and that means new minimum wages in nearly two dozen states. 22 states and the district of columbia. one of those states is maryland. this july, the minimum wage will go from $8.75 per hour to see 9.25. also in july, d.c.'s minimum wage will go from $11.50 an hour to $12.50 an hour. a dollar jump. virginia's minimum wage is currently $7.25 an hour, the same as the federal minimum wage. in all,

change for the weekend. we'll sort all that out starting right now. we have light fog in the air. that's a live view from our storm 4 tower camera. that's northwest washington and all the pavement is wet from the showers that came on through overnight. they're moving off to the north and east. there are some moderate showers in southeastern virginia and right now it's tapering off just to a few sprinkles here in northern virginia. the metro area, that one batch of moderate rain that came through, it's now north and east of the baltimore pulling away. haegerstown, that's going to be pulling up into pennsylvania, as well. good news is, temperatures are all above freezing. we're hovering in the upper 30s to near 40. reagan national airport is at 41 degrees. hour by hour, low to mid 40s by 10:00 a.m. a few sprinkles. passing showers by this afternoon. may briefly get to under 40s by late afternoon.

any other material that they wanted. that changed at the start of the new year. restaurant must now find recyclable products to replace the styrofoam. and the new year expands the smoking ban in gaithersburg, maryland. the previous ban does not include vaping or e-cigarettes. the city amended the ordinance back in october. now all forms of smoking are banned in all public buildings and spaces. there is a fine involved if you do break the the new law. >> it's not just adults that can may in new year's resolutions. the american academy of pediatrics says there are some things kids can do on to make changes. preschoolers can resolve to be friendly to animals or even to try to brush their teeth twice a day. elementary school children might want to promise to wear bike helmets or use seat belts. they can pledge to speak out against bullying and teenagers might vow to say no to drugs
